Overview of the Exclusive Backpacker From Tactical Pterodactyl Knives
That's it, I'm. Getting one.
My brother gave me an Ali express knife that looks exactly the same. It’s also titanium. Only difference is the blade material and hardware is anodized
I just bought an auto Mini Adamas - and these knives STILL have this issue. Going to try this when I get home.
This didn't seem to fix mine. But I noticed if I push the axis lock forward slightly it locks up tight. It seems that sometimes the axis lock doesn't slide up all the way, as described in the video.
How i know if mi mini adamas have a possible lock failure??? The knife box say produced in 2022
Nick Shabazz needs to watch this
I think it's a tie
There's really no point in torture tests, if you know they must be held secure like firearms. You really take the pis.😅
My $13 ChineUhMade Bugout mini has the same problem. My $26 Carbon Fiber ChinUhMade Bugout doesn't. Who TF pays that much for a knife to never use? You Millennials are one Fjuked up generation and this is why we never allowed you to own a knife till you finished College.
Just take a piece of metal drill three holes that attach to the opposite side for the pocket clip and then drill a bigger hole for the lanyard loop. PS, you're welcome.
Great tip. Thanks for looking out.
Thanks for the video. Some one gave me a Benchmade Narrows because he thought it was defective. This video, help me a) take it apart, b) realize that it wasn't defective and c) why it costs what it costs. I wouldn't have been able to put it back together without this. While I agree it is pricey, the bearings are insane and the materials topnotch.
Your tips and tricks worked out pretty well! Thanks! That blade play was really annoying for me…
Benchmade has had numerous QC issues since 2008 and has one of the worst QC track records of any American manufacturer in the folder game. The cope is strong. The first production Adamas all had the issue as an outright defect. This method does not work on it. And you shouldn't be having issues on blades this expensive.
I can't agree more on having quality bits, and how important quality tools are. The only 3 bit brands I use now are Wera, Wiha, and C.K Tools ( The Chrome vanadium ones made in Taiwan), not tried the C.K bits made in China but I'm sure they are good as well since C.K Tools are known for their quality tools.
Great video, even if it is for one of the most egregiously overpriced knives I've ever seen.
Hi, Can you please measure the bearing OD, ID and thickness? I'd like to replace mines with thick washers but I don't know the correct size. Thanks in advance
best trick I lerned for gettting the tube off is to start at the far end, with a slim screwdriver, wedge it between the scale and the liner, and pretend you're on a loom, and press toward the tube, slow and easy, stable pressure, and she comes right off - no warp to the scale, no damage... easy peasy
what do you prefer, the narrows in that video or the custom bugout with damasteel? if you had to pick one...
The bearings ride on the naked titanium? No steel race? 🤔😬
Thanks for the peek at the internals. And for the balanced take. Yes, it's expensive, but everyone else's videos on this knife are basically histrionic screeching.
Thank you for doing this so we don’t have to 10/10!
I'd like to see other Benchmades use bearings.
a bit of a better test than standing on it, however if you want to do a true torture test to prove the reliability and durability of the knife l'd personally make a much longer video having a few different materials that you might normally use the knife to cut through perhaps in a work environment or outdoor environment such as rope, wood, cardboard, polyethylene, etc. show it's performance before doing the tests and then after to see how well the blade itself holds up, also show if it gets loose if there's any jiggle before or after, check all the screws etc. , and put all the torture tests in one longer video maybe 10 15 minutes so people interested in the product researching if it's worth the price tag don't have to jump around your channel, the videos where you threw it maybe try throwing it while open as well to simulate having dropped it from up high while actually using it not like it just fell from your pocket, try throwing it into some wood blade first a few times see if it starts to get loose... just some suggestions constructive criticism thanks for reading it all if you do lol
are you at all concerned about the ss bearings directly rolling on the titanium handles?
The lock stick doesnt happen there, it binds on the stop pin.
I totally agree, it confused me why it wasn't s90v. All in all ide rather it be m4 anyhow but it kinda surprised me that they didn't go s90v.
I didn’t know about this knife until a local shop salesman pointed it out to me (because of the thinness and the cost). In hand it felt too thin. My impression of this knife is benchmade showing off its engineering, in a product that might be collectible in the future. I appreciate your review because you take it apart. It comes apart very easily compared to other benchmades, only 3 screws! Also, I was super interested to see this new axis lock. One spring in full view seems pretty good compared to 2 hidden springs. I wonder if we will see this version in upcoming products?
I know a few people who tried this "fix" and it didn't help at all. And if benchmade really knew the "fix" was this easy, then I'm sure they'd adjust their assembly process to accommodate this fix. I think for most, the tang is just way to short and round to handle any serious spine hits. This is dangerous even if you don't baton, because say you're using it in a self defense role, any kind of extreme pressure on the spine could make the lock fail.
Great centering tips. Thank you.
2023 knife of the year. I love mine
A fellow ul backpacker and knifer. Instantly subbed. It's funny to me how insubstantial knives are to ul backpacking. Most people hear backpacking and they start thinking a crk green beret is small.
Jeez, get a tripod for your camera already..!! I’ve never had motion sickness until today..!!
Great video, thx, what angle did you sharpen that bevel?
Gorgeous edge my boy🎉
Its just crazy that guys and gals are paying $200 for a knife and its still not good enough and now they spend even more money to make it better.
I love knives but this one so so over priced shame on u benchmade
Thank you for this comprehensive video! Picked my 1st PM2 in CruCarta (avoided Spyderco for 20 yrs with those phterodactilian looks but Delica 4 changed that). Love the knife, it's a perfect fit. It's breaking in fine and I have made zero adjustment. The only downer is that the compression lock is hard and scratchy to disengage if the knife was deployed harshly prior (flicking the blade open). Any ideas as to what course 8f action? I've so far just added a few drops of oil and worked the mechanism manually with different torque input. It's lossy goossy alright but both engagement and disengagement if the lock are meeeeh, irregular and sticky. It seems to get a bit better with daily but coming from ceramic BB, I'm thinking it's just the nature of the beast...?
Lock stick is definitely no myth on my pm2. Had if for months now, taken it apart a dozen times, cleaned it, oiled it, tried without oil. Played with it tons trying to “break it in”. With some oil it goes away for a bit, but always comes back. Reached out too Spyderco, got no response at all…. The pm2 is overrated in my opinion, and Spyderco customer service is basically none existent… maybe it’s just my knife.
i got a tanto pm2 aniut a monthmago and it had terrible lockstick. i ended up getting rid of the lockstick by doing a bladeswap with another pm2 i have. so if u have another pm2 try swapping the scales and liners. i tried cleanjng and eferything and the only thing that worked was swapping them scales and liners.
For almost $300 those guys need to assemble the knife correctly. My lock is getting stuck with the knife in the open position. Knife failures are dangerous. Period.
it's not an assembly issue to begin with, it's a tolerance issue of the mini and v2 adamas. the problem is that the lock-bar goes all the way to the end of the cutouts of the liners leaving no room for self-adjustment when the material wears in. imagine it as a liner-lock that has traveled all the way to the other liner. that's why ALL mini or v2 regular adamas either come with vertical blade play right out of the box or will quickly develop wiggle. there's no real fix for this issue, just don't buy the knife.
I'm having alot of drag on my compression lock, blade not wanting to fall freely when disengaged, especially after fluck8ng hard. what causes this and how do I fix it?
That pocket clip wtf
Magnacut🤭
$522.00 LMFAO
Bullshit Benchmade R&D? Materials? Bullshit. Then answer why theOsborne hasnt seen a lick of retooling or upgrades... And its 280.?Blah...blah. Benchmade has been dropping in quality and upping price for uears now. Overrated, overpriced. The competition is kicking your ass Benchmade in every category. Get your elitist heads out of your ass and pay attention to the market. All the comments are there for a reason.
Benchmade is insane. They've gone totally bat sh*t crazy.
Overpriced garbage.
they need a 940 custom shop asap
Great video mate. Subbed.
Contrary to popular belief, I don't consider disengage the lock to be a problem. I think the Benchmade engineers deliberately loosened the lock so that shock loads on the spine would not cause damage to the liners (this is what happened with the first generation Adamas). The lock does not fail under static loads. It will not fail even with accidental blows to the spine. Refusal is caused precisely by strong, intentional blows, which indicate the misuse of a knife (batoning). This is elementary foolproofing. Benchmade obviously didn't want another "survivor" in the woods to send them bent liners every weekend asking them to replace them. So any attempt to "fix" the lock is not a good idea. Most people simply enjoy owning an Adamas without putting it under unreasonable stress. Therefore, they have no problem with the knife. Problems arise for bushcrafting enthusiasts who are smart enough to batoning with a folding knife without disengage the lock. I think they deserve cut fingers in this case. Just buy a damn axe and stop doing stupid things with a knife.
Thanks for the great video. I got to check one out the other day. You broke it down for us really well I’ve seen the price come down to $420 so far I still think it needs to drop another hundred.
$420? What site? 😂
A site called GovX has it for $434.98. That was too much for me. But, Blade HQ has a military discount for $406. I didn’t want to pay over $400. Did it anyway.
