The way Chris has come to life in front of the camera over the last few years is amazing. From someone who clearly wasn't comfortable being filmed, to a confident narrator. The change has really bought the chanel to life and allowed Chris to really showcase his talents. Keep up the good work guys, love the channel.
I have rxactly the same vehicle bought new in August 19. 5 years old, 54000 miles. Only thing required in this time has been wiper blades, front tyres, set of pads and a stop/tail bulb!!! Fabulous thing and very under rated!
Literally first thing I thought when you first described the issue when walking round, earth issue, when you said he’d charged the battery and it did nothing when you turned the key, 9/10 it’s the simple things
Nice to see you offer the car back to the original owner. Not something many would do I suspect. Looking forward to the next vid. Don't understand why people make comments of a personal nature though but Hey Ho that's people for you.. Thanks guys.
This video made me smile as I had the same issue last December, parked my car, came back 5 mins later and ignition lights came on but nothing, no turning over etc. I thought oh poo! that's going to be an expensive fix coming up to Christmas 🙄, called the RAC out, the guy gave the draw of breath through his teeth, went to his van, 5 mins later came back with a cable, attached it and cut another cable off as it was a ballache to remove properly and charged me £7. I looked at him gobsmacked that it was only £7 to fix, he said Panda/500 fault, the main earth straps disintegrate eventually, that one was 12 years old so had done well. Needless to say he got a £20 Christmas drink from me for that. Nice gesture to offer the car back to the guy, I would have done that too.
Like how ur both not greedy and how u even spoke to who u got it of and offered it back 2 honest working guys in the trade very very rare in this day and age hopefully u both become millionaires rooting for both of u
Ashamed to say I’ve been catching up on a few weeks worth of episodes last few days due to a prolonged hospital stay with no Wi-Fi 😞. Great way to recuperate. ❤
I was in hospital also earlier this year for two weeks. The wifi was spot on, I kept my sanity by watching you tube videos, especially SRUK and the Euros that were on at the time. 👍🇬🇧😎
That’s when experience kicks in, a mechanic friend of mine told me that it’s either electric or fuel intermittent faults and Chris straight in with the electric and solved the issue, great work Sherlock Chris and sorry to hear about the cold Rob practically everyone I know who have been on holiday in turkey have come home sick with a cold ,nice to see you caring for your mate and not infecting him and then passing it on to others don’t forget guys it might be just a little cold to you but someone close may be battling a serious illness and a little cold could be very damaging, great post guys
Yeah right... I wish it was so simple. Earth would be the first thing that any mechanic would check. They always show what is convenient in their videos just to sell a car.
@@turektomasz Sorry I disagree with you. I’m also in the trade and buy and sell for a living. I make my bread and butter on fixing stuff like this that other garages have overlooked.
Great attention to detail as always from you guys. A nice bit of detective work from both of you with Chris finding the earth issue and Rob discovering the driving issues. Hope you feel better soon Rob….its a complete inconvenience having a cold. Great job as always guys.
The thing i love about you guys is that as long as you make abit of profit you’re happy. Unlike some who buy cheap, fix cheap and stick the price at max. Good job lads.
First thought when you said intermittent was earth strap, seen it go on many cars & would be the first thing I'd be checking. To be then found in the video but simply loose was a strange one & a shame for the previous owner. A simple tighten up could have saved them the hassle & any money they lost on the car. Very easy to get to too unlike some cars I've had in the past. Maybe it's been removed & not tightened properly, or a known problem with the car?. Either way, I'd be inclined to put a spring washer on & even a bit of locktite on the bolt. To add:- With all the other niggles mentioned later it seems to have been neglected or badly maintained/repaired, or both.
I’ve dealt with issues like that in past and just as you mentioned lights flickering and engine cutting out I knew straight away it will be a loose earth. Most common issue if the car has been in an accident and had some repairs done. I wouldn’t mind buying atleast one car like that every week, easy £££. Well done Rob for finding this one.
Good evening guys 👍🏻 Love how you offered the guy his car back 😊 Chris is worth a million dollars 💵 Rob. You’re both are so honest and love that you’re never greedy when selling 👍🏻 Hope you get better soon Rob & and don’t pass it on to Chris 🤧
My first car (2003 Honda CRV) had the old school turn key to start. This year we bought a 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross after nearly buying a Honda HRV but was told to steer clear of stop start, but we still bought the Mitsubishi as that too has stop start, but what I do before setting off is turn the stop start off. We do still miss the CRV 😂😂
I don't want to knock anybody's work but if more than one garage looks at a car then something can be overlooked. Chris is methodical in his examination so that paid off in this case. A new wheel bearing and check the windows are working and she will be good to go to a new home. Well done to both of you for cracking on and getting it done in one video. I hope your cold is soon gone Rob and you are back to normal. 👍👍
with a head cold ,Where is your hat or any head covering,as a former mountain rescue volunteer i can assure you heat loss from the body is through the head
Would it be worth checking with Hyundai if it's still under warranty for the wheel bearing. Some have 5, 7 or 10 year warranty depending when purchased and which model.
It’s a Hyundai, it should be something simple to fix, and it was a simple fix. I have owned a number of Hyundai cars and have found them all very reliable.👍
Nice.easy job there boys well done I had a mazda and every time I disconnected the battery I had the same prob with my windows had to go round each individual switch roll it down then up and when up hold switch up for 20 secs then they could be operated of the drivers panel
Wow ! Just like those Fiat 500 earthing leads that rot through and cause the same fault but in this case not tightened up probably after the previous repair, nice one !
I was excited today when I heard Bergerac was coming back with a 6 parter, but after watching you sleuths unpick this one, you’ve got no competition! Great work fellas ❤💥💥🤩💷
Great video as usual. I need to replace my battery on a vw golf 1.4tsi, what do u guys usually buy..? I thought batteries were a much of muchness but obviously not with ur comments about the lion n I will steer clear from them
Just had a similar issue with my own car. It was intermittent on wanting to start and one day just never started. Managed to get it home and after changing the starter motor and checking fuses, we found the main earth cable from the gearbox to the chassis was corroded and had snapped.
Nice turnaround! Fair play offering it back, could have really helped someone out if they were struggling and a nice touch, which may explain why you were recommended in the first place, no good deed goes unrewarded!
The electric windows could need "normalisation". My Toyota needs it if you change the battery. You just put them all the way up and down with either the main switches or each individual door, I forget which.
@@sruk Glad it's sorted, just mentioned it as ripping the door cards off etc then someone says "Have you tried..." would be just my luck 😆 get well soon
Great video 📹 as usual fellas just shows that you can't buy experience and knowledge rob what is the matter with a lion battery the car should roar along hopefully not a expensive turn around and should get a good drink 🍸 out of it. Take care fellas and stay lucky and healthy 👍 looking forward to Sundays video 📹 as usual great that you are back 😊❤
Get better soon, Rob. Whisky is great for a cold. It won't cure it but it makes you forget you've got it! Great video again but I'm left wondering about the quality of Hyundai. A wheel bearing gone at such a low mileage? Keep up the good work.
Hope your end of summer cold clears-up quickly, Rob. Nice work by Chris to diagnose the loose earth strap, car looked so much better after the valet - always buff the polish off!! 😇
Brilliant video as always! Thank you both very much ☺️👍 Another professional job completed by SRUK legends 👌 I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a car from you both. Get well soon Rob and have a brilliant weekend both of you 😊👍
It is surprisingly easy to miss the obvious when looking for faults. A few years ago a mate of mine worked for a large brewery in west London. They had a two week old lorry recovered back to the yard. They just happened to have the Fleet Engineer on site with some other high flying engineers, they all went out to view the vehicle and find the fault. The batteries were flat. After a little while they came trotting back into the workshop unable to find the fault. The foreman asked my mate to pop out and look it over. A few minutes passed and Jim came back into the workshop and shouted to the foreman, "order a couple of fan belts for that will ya"! The vehicle must've run over something on the road, which ran round the crank pulley and ripped them off. There was a bit of mumbling from the engineers and they then walked off. None of them had spotted the obvious lol.
The dead giveaway to me was when headlights were mentioned, I straightaway though, bad earth. if you have a bad earth, they can flicker, and you lose everything in second,s or it will find another way to earth, often with less than desirable side effects, such as fried electronics, burnt wares,

Really another example showing the value of the experience, which Chris contains.
