ahh memories.. when I was in middle school I rode an International S1800 bus that had a Thomas Body.. seeing them old S1800 Internationals make all those old memories come flooding back.
Cold it was. Hold the starter I did not. LOL in all seriousness, it does not have glow plugs, and I am not going to shoot it with ether unless it is extremely cold.
I drove for them when I was in college at U of H. Every now and then, I still help them out. My other bus is my old route bus from when I drove at Tomball ISD.
Somehow I missed this Vid!.. Good ole DT always kicks.. do you ever have an issue in really hot weather with your DT-360 losing prime when it sits? I been chasin it on mine .. let it sitin hot weather.. then start it .. runs for about 1 minute then dies.. then i have to manual pump the primer and it runs perfect...
Christopher Abnett nope. sounds like you have a leaky hose somewhere. The DT in the Thomas had a bad hose from the primer to the injector pump and I promptly replaced it, and the copper washers. Haven't had a problem since!
thats what I was thinking... when i got the bus one of the copper washers was bad so I changed it and no more leak.. when I prime it, I cant get any fuel out of anywhere on the positive side near that hose.. I think im going to have to take the line off at the tank, and pressurize it with fuel to see if it drips from somewhere... since its a Negative system, I have to be sucking air from somewhere slowly.. only happens in Hot weather.. in cold weather it will start and run every time..
Central Canada, and I do not have a skoolie yet. I would like to know which engine to chose that would be able to take a 10 speed or a 15 speed in a C2 Freightliner on a Thomas coach. Detroit, Cat or Cummins?
that bus looks like the one I rode when I was in middle school.. the front grill is exact same... but my driver said her bus was a 1977, which I think is not correct, as it was a S1800 series Thomas Body International. I am thinking she might have meant 1987 instead.
The hood is actually off of a junked 1988 or 87 Thomas S1700 with a 7.3, according to the line ticket on the hood. This bus was bus number 45 from Michigan City, Indiana schools, and was bought by Goodman Bus Service here in Houston in 2000, and I am the third owner.
ViceCityMasta The throttle lock is to keep the engine at a higher RPM. Just in case something like the air brakes are low on pressure and need engine power to restore pressure. The other unlikely reason is to let the engine warm up just enough to run at normal speed.
jacobfain9 my uncle has a 1984 international blue bird and he has it to where the title says rv and he doesn't need a cdl the paint job on my uncles is Ohio state and it says Ohio state on the side
Here in Texas you do not need a CDL if the bus is registered as an RV. HOWEVER, my buses are registered as buses, not RV's, so yes, they require a CDL.
+Jeffrey Yatkowski No, I play with school buses only. As for the engine, it's an International DTA360, but I guess it does kinda sound like an old Detroit while it is purring.
This school bus looks like a peice of shit compared to my uncles my uncle has custom made seats for his a Ohio state pant job all Ohio roof in side is Ohio state all leather interior clean and doesn't look like that by the steering wheel his is all black rubber no rust this dudes looks like he got it out a junk yard my uncles has a pa system TVs inside 2 heater blocks and my uncles is a 1984 blue bird international it has a 6.9 deisle engine
The bus i rode in Elementary school was a 2001 GMC Bluebird 77 passenger with a 7 liter CAT in it :D love the sound!!

it didn't fire right up! much to learn you still have!
Cold it was. Hold the starter I did not. LOL in all seriousness, it does not have glow plugs, and I am not going to shoot it with ether unless it is extremely cold.
"You have to unlearn what you have learned!" "No try not do or do not there is no try."
i remember riding a 1987 Thomas International S1800 bus to elementary school back in 2003 and 2004.
Looking great man! Good DT.
hell yeah

Txstreetman are you converting the bus to anything
Ah, an old Goodman bus. My school in Houston contracted Goodman for bus service for like field trips and such.
I drove for them when I was in college at U of H. Every now and then, I still help them out. My other bus is my old route bus from when I drove at Tomball ISD.
What is that tan thing that says International on it right inside the door? looks like a bag or grille cover maybe?
That is a winterfront
txstreetman thats what i was thinking the way it was folded almost looked like some kind of bag
I remember riding in a thomas version of that bus when i went to school.
Haha I have a Thomas version of that bus
@@txstreetman I like the Carpenter Chevy/GMC B series buses and ward/amtran ford b series, and thomas or blue bird International s1800 or 3700/3800
Love the steel dashboard
do u ever get old city buses to work on

first video i saw on your channel! subscribed :)
How much would you charge to switch an automatic to a manual in a Freightliner school bus. Would a 10 speed fit?
Not sure. Where are you located?

but your is a blue bird body I see
and yours appears to be an automatic, and one I rode on as a kid was not, it had a standard transmission

How do you slant your shifter handle? I've tried searching everywhere online and I can't seem to find any tutorials.. I don't wanna break mine 😂
I have yet to break any of the old quadrastat handles. I just apply twisting pressure repeatedly with my hand until it twists.
@@txstreetman I'll give it a shot, thanks!
@@geekygeek22 good luck!
i once had a friend who had an old school bus in his backyard i got to go in it once
What does the throttle lock do?
ViceCityMasta The throttle lock is to keep the engine at a higher RPM. Just in case something like the air brakes are low on pressure and need engine power to restore pressure. The other unlikely reason is to let the engine warm up just enough to run at normal speed.
Great Video!
How did you get into school buses
Do you have to have a CDL to drive one of these (not for school)
Yes
txstreetman no you don't, if the bus is registered as a recreational vehicle then a regular drivers license is all that is required.
txstreetman well at least in Kentucky that is. elsewhere laws are different
jacobfain9 my uncle has a 1984 international blue bird and he has it to where the title says rv and he doesn't need a cdl the paint job on my uncles is Ohio state and it says Ohio state on the side

You should try and get a grille cover for the Thomas
what was the temperature at the time?
+michael jagger High 30s.
txstreetman im not familiar with fahrenheit so im guessing may maybe 2 or 3 celsius.
+michael jagger Correct
Cool is that an s series s 1800
great video
are u a bus driver?
buses don't drive themselves
the one I rode on didn't have an Automatic Transmission tho.
DTA360?
Yup
+txstreetman one of the best international diesel engines
Yeah right! You call THAT a cold start?! That is Houston, TX 4 crying out loud! The 713 area code was a dead giveaway!
Tony Bidwell you are correct. However, at the time it was cold (especially for Houston) and the bus had been sitting for a while
The title says cold start not a full review of the bus
No one said you had to watch
putting a stereo on it too
Mark Dunn yes
Well, I'm dissapointed, I ddin't see a a bird or a blue bird. -.-
The bus is a Blue Bird body.
I know, it's a joke.
5:03 oof
add a radio
sounds like a detroit diesel
+Jeffrey Yatkowski No, I play with school buses only. As for the engine, it's an International DTA360, but I guess it does kinda sound like an old Detroit while it is purring.
+txstreetman Are you inferring that buses with DD's aren't true buses? lol
+Adam Kuebler Actually, when the 7.3 blew, the 6v or 84 71 or 92 series would have been my second choice engine alongside the DTs.
clean out that bus it's nasty

WHAT TYPE OIL YOU USE FOR THE BUS
15w40. This time around I used the house brand from O'Reilly auto parts.
Great video!
Shat up
+Peter Grillett seriously?
^ We are freinds Im just yankin' his chain
+Peter Grillett Ha I gotcha!
