also the description of reality is EXACTLY how I felt about the album. At first I really didn't like it - I didn't want to listen to it again, but it slowly grew on me... I go back to listen to it sometimes.
Nineties Bowie is pretty good, my favourite Bowie songs from the nineties include Buddha of suburbia, the hearts filthy lesson, the motel, seven years in Tibet and little wonder
My favorite album of his will always be Ziggy stardust. And I love how he was constantly changing sounds. Love most of his albums. A few of them was weak but I don't think any of his albums was absolutely trash. Will miss him dearly
@@Bat_Rag Well... The fact is I haven't really checked it out fully, but the first side is real good. Like, I might not like the 2nd track that much, but damn that is a moody and beautiful stack of songs that start pretty happily and introspectively with Speed Of Life and the 2nd and 3rd track, displaying what Eno and Bowie have come up with and ends with, probably, three of my most favourite tracks on the side (except for the goated first one), in which I hadn't pay attention to lyrics before I saw that the album was tagged as depressing and it confused me. That is the reason, btw, why I decided to rediscover it.
That's a good insight, I can see how it can be classed as depressing but the whole first side has a really upbeat mood. Then the second side is a bit slower and sadder, to me the album sounds like he's talking to someone
My favourite Bowie album is Station to Station, and oh boy, I'm glad you did it justice. Should've added Tin Machine though, but amazing video nonetheless. Also, the part where Dollar Days segues into ICGEA was the part when "I started crying" the first time I listen to Blackstar.
Low is such an underrated album. Sound and vision?? Always crashing in the same car?? Takes me to a cool synth alien planet where everyone is coy and depressed but loves to dance lol
I wish more people got The Next Day. You could really sense he was on his A game for that one and went into it with purpose and genuine inspiration. I'm a sucker for that Tony Visconti production too, like Scary Monsters (another personal favorite).
"Outside" was the album that brought me back to Bowie after many (many) years of ignoring his output. We went to see the movie "Seven" and the song "Heart's Filthy Lesson" played during the end credits. We waited until the end of the credits to find out who performed the song -- saw that it was Bowie, drove to the nearest music store and bought "Outside." It is a brilliant encapsulation of what I would have hoped to come from a combination of Bowie, Eno, and Gabrels. Sure, "a concept album" was a bit of a throwback to a much earlier age, but dammit if it isn't just outstanding from start to finish.
I haven't listened to any of David Bowie's music for a couple years now, so I'm honestly kind of shocked to see this on my "Recommended" page. (I guess I kind of wore out my interest after my crazy 14/15-year-old self's Bowie hyperfixation...)
This is certainly the most (positively) abstract meme in this genre I’ve watched. Great rewatch value because one is still trying to figure out what a lot means by the end
I'm planning on eventually getting all of Bowie's albums, and I'm curious to see after a decade and a half of hit after hit after hit, suddenly after "Let's Dance" it all just came SCREECHING to a halt, and while fine, didn't hit true GREATNESS again for about 30 years.
David's late 90's to early 2000's gets a bad rep. BTWN is such a vibe and Earthling is outta this world. 'Hours...' is honestly my all time favorite tho.
@@napoleonicgeese5223 I can't even lie, Slow Burn made me cry on my first listen. I got into Bowie's music post-mortem and started from the beginning of his discography, getting through Heathen was certainly an emotional ride.
It’s a pretty cool story about Black Star. He wanted an album that was not rock…started listening to TPAB by Kendrick and was inspired to make something in that vein.
Yeah it’s great he used Kendrick as influence for Blackstar as TPAB is fantastic. It also was made after Bowie’s Cancer diagnosis (Sadly it would be the cancer that would claim his life after Blackstar released), and the theme of death on the album was intentional as Bowie’s friends said that he wanted the album to be his parting album. Definitely a great one to go out on.
Don’t worry you’ll probably get a good idea which albums I can definitely recommend from here. Hunky Dory and The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust are definitely good territory.
i started out kind of like that; my first album was station to station, instantly became a fan. i'd definitely recommend that album, it only has 6 tracks but they all go ridiculously hard
Thoughts on Kraftwetk for an ADBMR or EOBIM. If the latter, I'd suggest a song from The Mix since they tend to be shorter versions of the originals. (Especially Autobahn)
👁⚡️👁 I love all his albums. All. From the wacky pre-fame 1960s cuts through the obvious perfection of the 70s and the shining 80s (even the less shiny ones… ok Dancing In The Street can go home but otherwise) to the I’m sorry but BRILLIANT Black Tie White Noise and Outside. I’ll even give Tin Machine a spin and remember ohhhh yeahhhh David Bowie was a Grunge pioneer too. His work this century was incredible (even if the cover art for Reality is the ugliest ever), with Heathen and Blackstar winning best 21st Century Bowie for both music AND cover art. He is pure unmitigated genius and a funny bugger to boot. I say “is” because Bowie is eternal. I bet he’s having a laugh right now up there in heaven dimension number 3.wow or something.
Even though I know it's not a common favorite, The Man Who Sold The World is one of my top 3 favorite Bowie albums. I don't know what it is about that album that I love so much.
A little bit harsh with 90's-00's Bowie. BTWN is actually fine for a comeback album, while Outside and Earthling are certainly more than good. Probably the best in that bunch is Heathen, and Reality is also pretty solid. I totally agree with 'Hours...' by the way; not that bad, but it's a snoozefest. That album should be credited to David Boring. And I died with Tonight and Never Let Me See You Doing That Again 😂 Still, I think Tonight is the worst of the two (and of the entire discography).
My least favorite LPs of his are PinUps and his first album, he’s done so much better after that. I like only a tad bit from Never Let Me Down and Tonight.
I don't get it. I only understood hours and btwn. 1. Tf is wrong with black tie white noise? And 2. why do people think hours is boring. I don't give a shit they miss a heavy album from before or after that. He's a chameleon. He never did the same stuff from old albums ever again. And I love how hours just fits in with it's release time. Besides, you guys ever heard something in the air? If I'm dreaming my life? Or what's really happening which was actually written by a fan who won a contest at Bowie net. It was also the first album to be downloaded from the internet, that has to be cool.
Yes I’m aware that it was the first album on the internet downloaded, and that’s cool. The music is what I come for however and I don’t think it hit very much.
Black Star is such a hauntingly beautiful album.
I agree
NEVER LET ME SEE YOU DOING THAT AGAIN was a BRILLIANT description
also the description of reality is EXACTLY how I felt about the album. At first I really didn't like it - I didn't want to listen to it again, but it slowly grew on me... I go back to listen to it sometimes.
I genuinely don't understand the hate! I loved it!
oh I get the never let me part now lol
"DanCinG RouNd THe HouSe fOr The NeXt HoUr" haha exactly
I think Hunky Dory, Scary Monsters and The Next Day are my favourites
90s Bowie is underrated.
Outside is absolutely one of his best
ABSOLUTELY I LOVE OUTSIDE
Yes!
Nineties Bowie is pretty good, my favourite Bowie songs from the nineties include Buddha of suburbia, the hearts filthy lesson, the motel, seven years in Tibet and little wonder
It's awesome! I love that album!
big agree! it deserves way more recognition
My favorite song of all time has to be Ashes to Ashes. RIP Bowie, from the stars he came and to the stars he has gone.
Hello fellow intellectual, my favourite song of all time is also ashes to ashes
I can’t pick, as he has a gargantuan amount of great songs!
"ha, hard luck Dave" had me on the floor 😂
oh shit it's you from the inazuma videos!

An appropriate description of Blackstar, RIP David and thanks for all the great music you've given us over the decades
"How memorable and special a note do you wanna go out on?"
David Bowie: *Yes*

Black Tie White Noise is so underrated and the titular track is still a belter.
But oh, that ending 😭💕
I love the title track, Jump They Say, and Miracle Goodnight
It's a pretty good album. I love Miracle Goodnight, The Wedding (both) and Pallas Athena; those are among my favourites from his entire discography.
noioioise
"Never let me see you doing that again" jajajaja perfect
It's criminal how underrated Station To Station is
100% correct opinion
NEVER LET ME... see you do THAT again
Maybe that's me getting other people's opinion, but Low seems to have finally clicked recently.. Damn, what an album.
What did it mean to you? It's one of my favourite albums

The Young Americans one was spot on.

I’m so curious though, did anyone else get named Bowie?? My parents are in love with his music so much they slapped it on my birth certificate.
Heathen is criminally underrated and for me his best album after Let’s Dance, until Blackstar of course
Michael does actually like that one. I would say that’s his second best album post Let’s Dance.

Heathen is possibly my favourite
Space Oddity- Let’s Dance are all brilliant
Outside & Earthling are gems
Heathen - Blackstar are all brilliant

Id also say Black Tie is underrated
Davidbowiecirclejerk material, great job dude.
I love how he describes the tastes of albums when he eats them
It perfectly fits the bill with Musical Taste.
this video it's a true internet gem, good one boy
Listen here, I actually enjoyed Pinups. Bowie's covers of classic Pink Floyd are **chef's kiss**
outside and earthling are s tier and black tie white noise is underrated smh

Station to Station
Outside
Earthling
Blackstar

You should do ADBMR with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
That one is already up on UA-cam!

Neve let me see you disrespect Outside again. Outside >> Aladdin Sane
fun fact: the american version of the man who sold the world album cover is scientifically referred to as dogshite
Yeah I’ve seen that album cover.
Is Rosen an Aardman Studios creation? It's pretty lifelike, almost CGI.
I will NOT TOLERATE this Black Tie White Noise slander! Jump They Say is super underrated, same with Nite Flights and the title track.
