      so true I just big chopped be cause I had some length from my new grow (2") but the permed ends where terribly damaged, splitting all the way up to the point it was affecting my the natural hair. Even gently combing my hair was too much for it to handle. The guy before he cut it wanted to make sure because it was a a major length change. At that point what was on the floor after getting cut was what it felt like was being thrown away after combing. Long story long lol Health over length is a definite.

      Exactly. I cut my hair to my shoulders and everyone was like what's wrong with me but I dont care I love it. My sister hair is heat damaged but she refuses to cut it off cuz its at a nice length.

    I'm a white girl and I'd give my left leg to have a gorgeous full head of black girl's natural hair! Ugh, I sit here watching all these video tutorials of these beautiful black women with natural hair and I'm so freakin JEALOUS!!!! I know a lot of black girls straighten or relax their hair but I'm like "GIRL STOP IT! Natural hair is so beautiful on a black woman, I'd kill for your hair type, you need to stop straightening and relaxing it, do a big chop and never look back, wear that hair natural cuz it's gorgeous that way!"

    • @destinylipgloss
      @destinylipgloss 8 років тому +30

      Lol I think everyone goes through a phase where they want what they don't naturally have. Just like when a white girl may want to get a perm to get their hair curly.😊

      Loulou, I don't do things like perming because it damages your hair. If I'm telling a black girl to not straighten her hair and to love herself the way she is then I'd be a hypocrite to turn around and change myself. I would love to have a NATURAL hair type like that, not have to "fake" it by damaging my hair.

      Oh. Thank you so much for calling my hair pretty. I wear my hair down a lot in a afro to school (like its all rushed down) and sometimes people have stuff to say but I shake it off because I like it, and my mom likes it xD! And I'm still very young so most kids my age care about what others think. Everyone in my family has been natural all their life except my mom who like cut all her hair off 12 years ago to go natural. And my sister who is transitioning. Sorry if I got off topic but what I'm really trying to say is thank you. BCUZ most girls from other races say like you should start straightening your hair. You really helped boost my hair esteem. It's nice having someone from another race cal 'nappy' hair pretty. Because I grew up thinking nappy was BEAUTIFUL but at my school no one else did. :)

    I have been natural for about two year now, at first my hair was always so dry but since I began to deep condition, I noticed that my hair is very moist and soft. I also wash my hair once a week.
    My hair has really grown. And I take vitamins to help with the growth

      +Shawntas Way (Shawnta'sWay) if ur natural do you have to wear your hair the way you wore yours in this video? I got a lil scissors happy twice and cut my hair off due to frustration. I'm learning how to manage my hair as it grows rather than getting frustrated. i do mostly twist-out and cornrows and twist and that just about it for styling my hair i dont use heat if i do it has to be an emergency where i cant wait for my hair to air dry, and i definitely dont straighten my hair i did it like twice since my last scissors happy incident. Currently my hair grew back the length it was twice when i cut it which is collar bone length. i live in Jamaica, an its hot so i try nt to wear my hair out often i notice lately my hair gets dry pretty often no matter how much i moisturize so thats y i have three styles that i switch up. lately i've tightened up on my L.O.C method so i use conditioned water, cantu leave-in or moisturizing cream, my oils i love and a whip shea butter mix i made. Some time in january will officially make it 1 yr since i last got scissors happy. Do i need to wear my hair curly? Idk im not a curl fanatic i love my curls and all but im not crazy about wearing my hair curly, other than three-stand bantu-knot twist out and thats it.

    I like what you said about shampooing your hair in sections because of me having curly hair I do sometimes find it hard washing the center of my hair and I don't wanna neglect that area or feel like I'm just not giving it as much care as the rest of my hair.... Your hair doesn't grow from your ends. I don't know why everyone thinks that. When you cut it, you take away dead ends so your hair can look full at the ends. But if you damage the hair excessively, you could potentially have the dead ends rise and rise up to the point where it hits your roots if your hair growth slows down dramatically. But yeah. If you don't put any heat at all in your hair. Just cut your ends once a year. There is no need for you to get a trim every six weeks if your hair is healthy.

    • @fefemyluv
      @fefemyluv 8 років тому +5

      Deekha Ahmed thank you. I trim twice a year. I still don't understand why people trim healthy hair every few weeks.

    • @KumakOwO
      @KumakOwO 8 років тому +1

      Deekha Ahmed do you know why a tree loses it leaves in fall? It's a survival mechanism so it doesn't have to waste nutrients in the leaves as it prepares for harsh winters. Think of trimming ends like that. By clipping off the dead and unhealthy ends, more nutrients goes to the healthy roots of your hair, enabling it to grow faster. I hope this helps other understand the importance of cutting split ends. I'm really glad that you finally brought that up

    • @deekhaahmed4074
      @deekhaahmed4074 8 років тому +5

      Weslie RossMal I understand, but people who have healthy hair who don't damage there hair, but just have slow hair growth think that a good solution is to cut it every 4-6 weeks.

    My hair hated the apple cider vinegar rinse. It got so dry, it wouldn't even curl. I had to use my Shea Moisture shampoo with Jamaican Black Castor oil in it to wash my hair, condition with a sulfate free conditioner and then deep condition it to get my curls back. I think I will stick to a clarifying shampoo. Your hair looks nice and healthy.

      apparently it is suppose to do what a clarifying shampoo does which is strip your hair of all the products we use on our hair but what I did find out is that people with low porosity hair should not use a apple cider vinegar rinse at all.

    Excellent video. As a Master NHC Specialist, we use the word shampoo instead of wash when speaking of cleansing the hair. You wash your car and shampoo your hair. Also natural hair does tend to get dry however once the body becomes hydrated the scalp produces its own natural oil reducing the need to oil the scalp with an excess of products. Your hair looks great. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos.

    I found a regimen that leaves my hair moisturized for at least 3-4days with no touch ups of liquid : I spray my hair with a mix of water, cantu argan oil & S M curl enhance smoothie.
    Then take sections and add organic coconut oil then Suave moisturizing condish and 2strand twist, silk scarf, that's it and my hair looks so smooth and healthy.
    I've yet to get the courage to wear the twist-out in public.
    Thanks for the 411 on maintenance tips.

      @ShawntasWay  9 років тому

      If your keeping the twist in that's mainly why you're not having to re-moisture..if you're hair is out like mines and you're not doing a protective style (as you're doing since you're not wearing the twist out) then re-moisturizing daily with water is important no matter what you do on wash day! And your regimen for twist as a protective style sounds great!!

      Shawntas Way Thanks for the breakdown, I would looove to wear it out, I see other women with their hairstyles and it looks so nice and stylish but this hair can have a mind of its own.

      I watched a young lady's frustrated video yesterday regarding wavy haired mixed women of color promoting hair growth as if every woman of color will have the same experience. Stop the lies!

    • @KinkyKoilyKayla
      @KinkyKoilyKayla 9 років тому +3

      Drea Anderson I don't think she is mixed. Nor is Naptural85, Glamtwinz334, or MahoganyCurls and they promote natural hair (how they grow their hair and products that work for them) and are women of color. Everyone's hair journey will be different. I do understand what you are saying though but I have watched vids where mixed women of color have said the exact same thing as a true woman of color

    the same thing sort of happened to me. I got my last perm in march of this year and after a few weeks I decided to go back natural and over the summer I got a lot of damage from a lot of things then when I went to get my hair straightened without a perm the lady told my mom I had a lot of damage and that it had to be cut or it'll split up so she cut off all the damage but not the permed parts so my hair is healthy and growing really fast and the next time I went to get it straightened she didn't even have to cut it and she said my hair will be back to normal with no perm at the ends in 6 months 😊
