As always Sandy, another great video in lovely countryside. We visited the UK 2015 having a good look at the beautiful English countryside. Keep the videos coming. Cheers from New Zealand.
Lovely video Sandy. It’s always good to learn more of the history of a place, and I found this really interesting. Great to see you out on the trike too. Hope Mandy is feeling much better.
A very busy but interesting day on the trike Sandy. I know I get repetitive when I say this but I am always left in awe of the rich and robust history of of the U.K. And I am so amazed by the historical stories of the ancient happenings in the various kingdoms. Thank you again for taking us along with you on these explorations and taking the time and effort to explain the significance of what we are shown. Enjoy your time with the outdoors and I will see you on the next one.
Your foot path / bike path system is amazing Sandy. Always a pleasure to watch you go for a ride and talk about the local history. Knowing where we came from helps us from going to far the wrong way. It was a great day here in the US. Cold, but Great.
Wow!! That was a really interesting video, that old trike can certainly bet pedalled up some steep inclines 👍 Once again you’ve shown us some very interesting history and views from around Swindon, I’ve been in Burdrop house, my mum used to run the post room there when Sir William Halcrows owned the site (civil engineers I believe). Even though I’ve lived in and around Swindon all my life I never new that mr Smith’s farm track existed, what a lovely parts old Swindon has to still visit 👍😊
The amount of times I’ve gone past Wanshot. Great story, WM. So fascinating to think of her travelling around here all those years ago. We have SO much interesting history on our doorstep. The vast majority of kids I teach won’t know about Barbary Castle, Avebury, Clouts Wood, The Lawns…their families don’t venture out. All this will be forgotten when we are gone. The video you did on the canal was the first one I ever watched! I’ve watched your back catalogue 😃 Superb video 👍
Thanks Dave, I feel it is really important to keep our history alive, Wanshot and Windshot are definitely a legacy of Queen Elizabeth, on the house sign there was a Goose, which is the bird she ate at a feast to celebrate victory over the Spanish fleet
Hi Sandy, another fabulous and interesting video. Well impressed on your Queen Elizabeth 1st impression. Couldn't even see your lips move. Wishing improved health for Mandy, all the best Dave
Hi Sandy, I think we should rename you “History Man”. Your local knowledge is always interesting as you illuminate Swindon’s past. I am sure the Queen would have approved your music selection, it definitely helped the trike ascend those hills. 👍👍👍😀
Hahaa, if the Queen were alive and able to watch and listen I reckon she would have been bopping and rocking Charles. I find hill climbs on the trike a relative breeze, it is without doubt the most fun machine I have:) I think the bottom bracket is starting to wear though as I can feel movement. I can see me having a rebuild later in the year
Nice to see you to see you nice again sandy back out on your trike looks nice day for a ride on the trike nice bit of history and good video hope your Mandy doing well and the dogs 🐕 stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Great to see you on the trike again Sandy lovely. Wonderful and fascinating video Sandy, Elizabeth 1st connection with Swindon and Birdrop Park most interesting, a shame the park has been built on. And when royalty travelled they would need a safe house to stay in, enemies everywhere like Catholics etc. Such a shame about abandon properties and farm's etc. Like your voice impression of Elizabeth 1st very funny, interesting info on the oneshot or windshot incident. Great you bumped into friends and subscriber's Shane and Karen and shared some information excellent. Thanks Sandy for sharing an excellent video once again 👍👏👋
Got to love a bit of history James, but it seems a lot of my viewers aren't watching this one, they mostly want to see videos of people in the woods eating loads of food and drinking beer it seems! It's either that or videos which feature something that they can buy do well. Most of em arn't interested in history...Such a shame!
That was excellent 👌🏻 I do love a bit of local history & stories about our past monarchs. Are those the heated gloves I caught a glimpse of? Hopefully they did you proud on this trip. It’s certainly bone chilling here in Sussex. Thanks Sandy
Hi Sandy, fabulous history of the place, 👻 well done, you pedalling all the way their, I bet you wished you would have gone by 🏍 motorbike,? Keep warm ,as it's freezing 🥶
Played football for Wroughton juniors school on the pitch opposite the nurses quarters in the mid 1960s, the site of the school was on the bend and later turned into a mental home.
I wonder if the concrete slabbed path/road passing Westlecott Farm cottages is part of a historic route between Swindon and Verlucio (now known as Sandy Lane, south-east of Cheltenham) because it is an extension of a footpath/green lane which crosses Okus Road which is called Sandy Ln 🤔🤷♂
Hahaa no way would I go on that Rupert, Dylan would run me over. The trike is running well but I will have to fit some new parts soon, bottom bracket is starting to wear and I'll probably fit a new chain and sprockets too. JBJ, I shall be on sked with Rich tonight, 3.538 at 19:30 :)
I know you have important contacts Sandy but I never knew it stretched to royalty, there are things your not telling us about regards your lifestyle Ha-Ha, best wishes, Colin.
Lovely historical tour thank you, is it possible to fire up the CC/sub titles please for us of a certain age that are hearing challenged? If I watch with the sound cranked up my other half complains. 🤣
The abandoned cottages are you come up to Westlecot have just had the roofs replaced. You should have called in my place for a cuppa. The Manor House was sold last year.
I can go for this kind of history! "A seen through the eyes of a dude who lives there!" 😂 Is the reason I'm going to france this summer. My tour guides are going to be friends of mine, natives there. No touristy stuff.
As sad and upsetting as is the political, social and financial situation in the UK just now, how I wish I could travel England's green and leafy lanes one last time - Ex Pat in the Philippines. Thank you, Sandy, for a lovely tour of my home land, home sick.
As far as nursing homes og I would say Downsview is one of the better ones, certainly from the perspective of position. Hope your keeping well John. I'll give you a call later.
All throughout the American East, there are places whose claim to fame is that "George Washington slept here". Just like in England were the King or Queen slept here. We all have our own Royality, I guess. LOL

The soundtrack choice for the start of that slog up Kite hill, was pure genius. 🙂 👍🏼
Thanks Simon, I thought that sound track went well too :)
Another great interesting video, Sandy. Thank you so much. Cheers!

Thanks, Sandy, as always, an interesting film. Hope Many os doing well ! ...no mention of Black Adder 😂 !
Cracking ride out Sandy. You are a brave man taking on the Hodson road on the trike😲
I agree Danny, it is a fast stretch of road, there's no other way to link Chiseldon to Wroughton apart from going through the Old town
Your foot path / bike path system is amazing Sandy. Always a pleasure to watch you go for a ride and talk about the local history. Knowing where we came from helps us from going to far the wrong way. It was a great day here in the US. Cold, but Great.
There's a lot of history in the "Old world" Jim, and yes quite fortunate with there being quite a few miles of cycleway here :)
Most excellent. Love hearing some history and the couple was nice to share a bit as well.
Brilliant social and local history episode - Thanks

Best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Can I just add what a lovely video I think they are great when you engage with all the history of your local area, it's so interesting .
The amount of times I’ve gone past Wanshot.

Thats one good thing about this country Rob, plenty of history
Very pleasant half hour in the presence of Royalty mate. Good climb for the old legs too. Thanks for taking us along on this one my liege.
Hahaa, Yes the legs are now over 62 years old but they power me up the climbs with relative ease. Thanks Malcolm
So much history. Love it. Thanks Sandy.

I find history very interesting Martyn, we are lucky in the UK with our rich History:)
Another nice video & some great local history. Enjoy your time out in the cool weather! My best wishes to you from the Philippines ❤️💪👍😉😄😁🐏🇵🇭🏴⭐
As always totally enjoyed the history in this Sandy -I have posted on my FB history group !

@@WiltshireMan Typical Sandy when will they enjoy the past and not the now ?
Absolutely brilliant video. I really enjoy your history rides, much appreciated
A very interesting and informative video Sandy. Those hills looked like hard work on the trike.
Thank you for the tour around, Sandy!
Lovely video Sandy. I love the history themed ones.
Nice Story Sandy, we learn al lot of your surroundings
Wow sandy that was very interesting 👌 And it certainly gave you a good work out 🙌 I could be swinging into yours for a coffee at the end of March ☕️🤞👍
Be lovely to catch up at some point Martin, your welcome here any time
Another very interesting Video (as usual) Sandy. Keep well mate! 😊
Thank you Sandy. Three wheels are a very wise choice in these cold days of late, kind regards,
Never knew about Wanshot Close and was born there!. Shame about the urban sprawl and all those lost farms and fields . Great filming .
Loved the music !😊
That was excellent 👌🏻 I do love a bit of local history & stories about our past monarchs. Are those the heated gloves I caught a glimpse of? Hopefully they did you proud on this trip. It’s certainly bone chilling here in Sussex. Thanks Sandy
They are Kemimoto heated gloves Andy, I wouldn't bother with them if I were you, they are not very good in my opinion
Thank you for the video, from Ohio in USA. So interesting.
Hi Sandy, fabulous history of the place, 👻 well done, you pedalling all the way their, I bet you wished you would have gone by 🏍 motorbike,? Keep warm ,as it's freezing 🥶
I'd rather be on trike or pedal bike when it's cold Angela, the workout keeps me warm:)
Thanks for the video, very, very interesting. 👍
Nice little tour Sandy...though I thought you were going to say the queen stayed with you...
Haha, the "queens" we get these days arn't my cup of tea:)
Nice history lesson.....look forward to the next.....

Thanks for watching Jan :)
A very interesting video that 👍
Thanks Sandy that was very interesting, and I would love to see more like this. How's your Wife now?
Very interesting video ☺
Great video (as is the norm). What is the flag you are flying?
The flags are there just for visibility, they represent know meaning as far as I am concerned
Thankyou😍
Played football for Wroughton juniors school on the pitch opposite the nurses quarters in the mid 1960s, the site of the school was on the bend and later turned into a mental home.
Yes thats right, I used to drop off a lad who had severe autism there, he used to stay over the weekends
After we moved to the new juniors school in Wroughton everyone was taken for a tour of the then mental facility, got to say it was quite traumatic.
@@richardraven9047 I can well imagine. Seen it myself!

I hope you didn't brave the Magic Roundabout on the trike! Good to see you spinning up the hills there......JBJ.

Yes I will do that. UA-cam doesn't make CC's available until the video has finished processing which can take some time
@@WiltshireMan Thank you Sandy much appreciated
The abandoned cottages are you come up to Westlecot have just had the roofs replaced. You should have called in my place for a cuppa. The Manor House was sold last year.
Where is your place? do you live in one of those houses with the old Citroen 2cv's outside?
Only one of the cottages is derelict. Tother is lived in. The wall with the door to the Manor has planning to replace. I live just up Westlecot
