Dr. Mochizuki who is a leading person of a genetic engineering devoted himself to create "NEO Life-form" and genetically altered his assistant Masaru Aso's body. Masaru awaken after a long period of dormancy and transforms to KAMEN RIDER ZO to save peoples by using grasshopper's power.

Late 80's and early 90's Tokusatsu had some really gorgeous suits. During this period, monsters were actually allowed to be scary. They also had that really dark and gritty atmosphere, with a lot of scenes involving industrial areas and urban decay. I REALLY hope that they will release the Hakaider movie as well.
I think that's probably more down to them trying to be more "adult" because kids weren't really into Toku at the time. Not that I have a problem with the more kid friendly later stuff, cause some of the best Rider shows came from the 2010's.
Although Haikaider is now realeased physically in America by Media Blasters in the US now.

Kamen Rider Zo movie is produced in 1993 year.
I have a lot of Kamen Rider from 1970s , Tokusatsu and super henshin DVD complete .
For frame of reference, the scenario writer was Sugimura Noboru. He would go on to write the scenario for Resident Evil 2, in addition to Code Veronica. When I revisited the original game, I couldn't help but draw parallels to William Birkin and the G Virus with Professor Mochizuki and the NEO Life-form, or Doras and Mr. X, plus Hiroshi and Sherry.
This is interesting, explain why zo is kind of like a horror movie in some parts

woah. this reminds me of when I found out the Gamera trilogy and Ghost in the Shell share the same screenwriter.
That fight choreography at 37:34 parallels to Wesker vs. Alexia monster form fight from Code Veronica where Wesker runs through the wall and air punches Alexia in the face. This was probably Sugimura who wrote the part while other parts of the game were written by Jun'ichi Miyashita and Hirohisa Soda.
WOW, That Explains Why ZO Had A Frightening Atmosphere And Moderated Gore, In Comparison to the Complete Trainwreck That Kamen Rider Shin Was, AND PLUS, There's The "Kamen Rider: Genealogy Of Justice", For Playstation Two, A Kamen Rider Videogame Who Literally Mixes Kamen Rider Ichigo, Nigo, V3, Black, Kuuga And Agito With Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, I DO Have this Game ISO On My PCSX2, But Sadly Everytime i go to Play it, the Game Glitches, and the Characters Either Appear Giant Or Vanishing in the Scenarios.... :(

This single-take shot may qualify as the greatest fight scene in any Kamen Rider, ever.
The 1993 film KAMEN RIDER ZO was apart of a short lived experimental series by Toei to reinvent some of their classic heroes in darker but no less action heavy and older kid friendly stand alone films. These films overseen, directed, and designed by the talented Keita Amemiya who also was behind Kamen Rider J and Mechanical Violator Hikaider, the two other entries in the aforementioned series. With this film freely and officially available now, I highly recommend this KAMEN RIDER ZO to anyone interested is Japanese fantasy adventure films and superhero vs monster fair.
Literally, I watched Kamen Rider ZO on video tapes, video CD and now UA-cam. What a life to live.
What I like about ZO is that it is pretty much back to the basics Kamen Rider.
This is the movie that got me into watching Kamen Rider. ZO will always be my first and favorite Rider.

Yes, the best Kamen Rider from the 90's!! Keita Amemiya is an amazing director and the monsters in this movie are gorgeous. Also Ai ga Tomaranai is one of the best music pieces of the entire Kamen Rider history.
The singer Infix, also conposed Winners Forever, 1st ED theme of V Gundam the same year.

This was literally my childhood!!! I watched it everyday after school on repeat! Bring so much memory. This old rider sagas was the best ever.
Still my favourite Rider Movie. The music is atmospheric. The suit is simple but well designed, and Doras is easily the most intimidating antagonist in the franchise.
Wish it had led to a tv series.

Doras is easily one of my most favourite villain in the franchise. It has the vibe of "Rider-like" such as Shadow Moon, Daguva, and Arch Orphnoch. We could say that Doras is like a precursor to Another Riders in Zi-O
Doras' character design truly ahead of it's time.

what I love about the 90s trilogy Riders are that they are proto Heisei Riders that bridge the gap style wise from the Showa to Kuuga
Keita Amemiya and Shotaro Ishinomori wanted simple but with huge impact designs
There's a also Changerion, which was written by Toshiki Inoue.
W reminded me a lot of these suits. Sleek, simple silhouette, no unnecessary bits sticking out.

It’s super interesting to see the transition. I got so many Kuuga vibes in this, yet it was still very late 80s unlike Kuuga. Makes me love this film all that much more as Black and Kuuga are two of my favorite seasons.
There NEEDS to be more tokusatsu productions with stop motion, just an all around dope film.
Kamen rider Black, RX, and Zo will always be my fav for all time..
This is actually a beautiful film. It's a shame we've never seen this actor reprise his role. I really hope that happens someday

My first and only Kamen rider. I watched this movie so many times as a kid and was blown by it. Love all the costumes.
Surprised this appeared on my feed, but definitely a welcome one. This movie impressed me back then when I watched it in 1996, still impressive today.
I remember RCTI aired this together with Kamen Rider J movie.

Ah, nostalgia. ZO was the first Kamen Rider I ever saw. I had the game when I was kid. For those wondering yeah there was a game but it was basically the movie here with quick time events scattered throughout and if you failed you lost health until game over and had to restart. I think it was on the Sega CD.

o KAMEN RIDER ZO merecia uma temporada de 50 episódios, ter apenas um filme para mostra sua história foi muito pouco, ele tem ganhar novos filmes, seu visual e muito top.
It’s amazing how many subtle influences this seems to have, or might have created. That stop-motion spider monster among the pillars feels really ‘Jason and the Argonauts’, and the whole “get absorbed by a weird bio-monster and get tangled up inside it” concept predates the debut of Majin Buu by a year! Among other things, of course- I feel like this is a great example of stuff I’ve seen done way less impressively and earnestly a million times. This is an actually fun and well-made film, proper tokusatsu gold. I came here from Vangelus recommending it and I’m going to recommend it to anyone who asks from here on out.
Don't forget the hand eyes of the Bat monster could have inspired Del Toro himself for Pan's labyrinth

Zi-O pronounced as Ji-Ou meaning Time King.

Jesus Christ. All that action and camera work and prop effects and stuff, and NO cuts for the entire of that 1 minute and 41 seconds. That was all done in one take. That is insane.

This movie action scene is indeed better than Shin and J. J is too much Ultraman while Shin despite it's hardcore approach, the fight scene is very 70's

watched this movie when i was 3 years old but had never again ever since and also forgotten the movie title. just watched this again and i still remember how that spider monster was so terrifying but also so cool. it was like opening a really old folder of my childhood memories
Exactly..because of the new kamen rider black sun, i was remembered of this movie which has dark atmosphere and creepy villain but cant remember which title. Then accidently found this video. So glad to see it again after so long.
Like I say the use of practical effects and stop motion is pretty impressive

Great movie, love Doras' design. Still crazy that they made Doras-Powered that only gets a few minutes of screen time. Glad they made a figure of it though.

Judging that this movie was made in early 90s, the cinematography was ahead of it's time. Seriously, look at the monsters and the battle.
Monsters that only have animalistic instinct and actually looks "monster" have their own terrifying vibes compared to monster who have human intelligence.

Personally, the Kamen Rider ZO suit is my favorite looking Kamen Rider ever; pleasing color palate and patterns, sleek and uniform design, the helmet looks simple yet effective... it's overall awesome!

This is the first kamen Rider show that utilizes Hollywood morphing special effects then. Yes it is heavily influenced by Hollywood Sci-fic elements particularly terminator 2. Doras design is impressive and is on par with the predator. The show seems too compact due to showtime being trim down. A pity. It would be a better complete film if it is extended for 90mins.
Kamen Rider before has a decent suit, now it looks like a mascot.
The film that made Haim Saban scare kids in his adaptation of Black RX, (as well as J) and the film Sega decided to dub as a Sega CD/Mega CD game. The west certainly did get a taste for ZO, even if it wasn't the full movie. :D
Do you know, after Zo an J movie came out, Kamen Rider series are on hiatus for a long time, and Kuuga basically a gamble, if Kuuga failed, Kamen Rider will stop for good.

Fantastic movie. It's Kamen Rider mixed with Terminator, Alien and Predator. ZO's design looks awesome and the monsters are incredible. I like that they don't talk. Makes them even more scary. The Neo Lifeform is clearly T-100 with a predator laser inspired The bat and spider kaijin looks awesome too. Never thought I'd see stop motion or a one-take fight in Kamen Rider. Underrated classic.
This along with Black and Shin have to be my favourite Showa suits.

This movie is just a condensed Terminator 2. A cyborg protects a young boy from a liquid metal cyborg. Good movie still, love the special effects

That concept is basically Kamen Rider, the show preceding the Terminator films. The 90s creature aesthetics and tone make it seem like a blatant Terminator ripoff.
