- The J5 Submarine is popularly known as the Yellow Submarine, due to its coverage in part by yellow zoanthids. She sits upright on a sandy bottom in 36 metres of water.
The J5 was first commissioned in the Royal Navy (UK) in 1916. In 1924, it was sold to a Melbourne salvage company. The hull was sunk off Barwon Heads in June 1926, and is now a dive site!
We headed out to the J5 with Chimney Rock Charters on a pleasant Sunday morning. Accompanied on the dive by a curious seal.
The sub has entry points, but we chose not to enter due to the conditions (surge).
Depth 36 metres, dive time 40 mins, viz 15 metres, water temp 20 deg C.
Filmed in 4K on a GoPro 11 (with lighting).
Enjoy - and thanks for watching!
Cool video
Thanks! I must get over to dive in your neck of the woods one day...
