    Regarding clipping, that has to do with the maximum signal amplitude that the device can reproduce, in this case this happens when the game asks for more force than the wheel can provide, and that does not create noise, it simply makes the wheel reach it's ceiling and any detail beyond that ceiling is lost.

      If you can take a curb is dictated by car, geometry settings, tyre pressure, tyre temperature and the shape and height of the curb itself. Lots of variables.. sometimes with a certain setup you cannot take curbs on the first 1-2 laps, after that if the tyres are warm.. no problem.

    I gotta slightly disagree on the 2nd tip, because it's something you shouldn't do on every curb in this game, because most of them are (unrealistically) extremely slippery. I'd say overall: avoid curbs in traction/hard acceleration zones (Turn 1 at Spa or after the first chicane at Monza), but take plenty of them especially at the exit of fast corners as well as in chicanes (you can gain almost 0.5 seconds using the curbs hard at the Variante Alta at Imola)
    Other than that, nice video as usual :)

    • @SimRacing604
      @SimRacing604  7 років тому +20

      Yes, you're correct. I'll pin this comment. I intended to imply that new drivers shouldn't be scared to use curbs, but perhaps I took it too far. Thanks for the feedback. Still loving those videos of yours too, you can really haul!

      SimRacing604 It's ni doubt a great tip of course, using the curbs is still extremely useful even in this game, especially in fast corners where traction is not important

      SimRacing604 thanks for the compliment, but i'm not really good with commentary tbh ^^ on top of that, i'm not that good with explaining stuff to people as well because it just seems natural to me that i drive the way i drive...

    Curbs: pay close attention to the sound, it can tell you if you are hitting the curb or not. In some sims U can adjust this volume higher. Beware, some curbs are much harsher than others & some cars react negatively more severely than others, esp open wheel cars & go karts.

    A slight correction to your information about "clipping", it's not "noise" or "overload of information", it's what we call a "overflow". The PC is generating a waveform (yes, audio term too, but applies to FFB) of feedback to send to the wheel. If the game generates a spike in that waveform that is too high it can exceed the maximum actual possible value in the analog domain, so instead of getting a nice smooth curve, it "clips" it to the maximum value and that extra information is lost. Lets say you have a 32-bit floating point value with a range of -1 to 1, centered on 0 (this is pretty standard for most things), while the computer and 32-bit floating-point can support values > 1.0 and < -1.0, the physical hardware (soundcard, ffb wheel) can't. As such the output is clipped... the logic is simple: if (x > 1.0) x = 1.0 else if (x < -1.0) x = -1.0. Also, this has zero impact on the wheel input, only the force feedback of the wheel. Clipping isn't bad if it happens sometimes, ie, you crash and the impact is just so huge the wheel can't represent what happened, it's only an issue if it's clipping continuously. Conversely in audio you never want to clip as it produces a flat DC output that can burn our speakers, even if you can't hear the clipping.

    Great Video Mike, and I truly hadn't heard the "outside/inside/outside" term before. I'm also blown away, that you've gone from 500 to 712 subscribers (at the time of typing this) so quickly, so you must be working on your 1,000 subscriber special video already ha, ha. But one thing I am worried about, is that BOTH you, and my brother don't know Nordschleife, very well, and I was going to do an "extensive how to tutorial" on how to drive it next - but I don't want to appear to be "pinching" your driving tips idea's. I had this planned for at least a couple of months, but I knew it could be a 40-50min long video, and thought long & hard on how to best present it. I hope you don't think I am pinching any of your idea's though................

    Hi:) Thanks for the tips. I noticed your video, because recently I got into racing sims thanks to my friend, who rides in Assetto Corsa and Gran Turismo Sport. I bought a fairly simple, used wheel, Logitech Formula Force EX from him, because he switched to T300RS for some serious approach to racing sims. I really enjoy racing in Assetto, mainly doing my career atm, but there is a problem. I ride with cpu on 80% and most of the time I and up 2nd/3rd, because I get bumped in the back by them on the corners or I get nervous and start twitching around when I see them near in my rear window. Do you have any tips how to ride clean with some other people, but still fast? When I start to ride super clean i loose my focus and speed, because they are cpu's, they ride perect, of course. I try not to bump into them, it makes a bad habit later online and people don't like that. Maybe I lack remembering my tracks or something?

      It's all about being able to manage your stress when under pressure by another racer. Dont try to go faster than your current abilities as you can risk spinning the car out or running it off the track. I hope he uploads a video about defensive driving and how to pass racers as that can commonly lead to many crashes in online races if neither racer properly does it.

Youll need a good wheel and the minium is the thrustmaster t300. The next one would be thrustmaster pc racer. Its the best bang for buck. It reads every game and exactly the same power as the v2.5 from fanetec.

Even in RL car every wheel feels different in weight etc... the "right" FFB would be the setting that inspires most confidence.. but that is different for mostly everyone. So there isn't actually 1 right setting.. within the field of not clipping there's a vast array of differences.. which are possibly all correct, depending on who you are and what you want out of your FFB.

    ngl i followed the fov tutorial but not being able to see right and left of me made it undrivable. i had to spacial awareness of surrounding cars and it made overtaking very dangerous

    If you have to use this fov, wouldn't be better to use directly the view from the bonnet on the wheel less view?

      FOV and "seat" potions are different things, and is a common mistake, most ppls correct FOV would put there monitor on the windscreen, however you can still move seat positions (Screen position in game world) and retain the correct FOV, FOV is extremely important.

      Renata Košir I'm not the guy, unfortunately. There are a lot of sim racers that can teach advanced driving, but I'm not one of them. I'm mostly trying to help beginners learn to enjoy the game. Thanks for checking this video out!

    Don't bother watching - the tips are as helpful as "set your fov..it is impkrtant...so you can..see.
    Use kerbs on the racetrack....never.

      bruce lee maybe because it's a closely autenthic simulator that should be played on a decent wheel and requires lots of practice?

      @brucelee-oy4hv 4 роки тому

      @@LEVILENTE Yes, that may be the case, but you don't know that until you buy it and reviews don't tell you, you need a wheel

      bruce lee it's a full sim,it's obvius that you'd need a wheel.

    • @brucelee-oy4hv
      @brucelee-oy4hv 4 роки тому

      @@LEVILENTE It's not obvious at all. I just saw a car game, looked at the graphics and brought it home, thinking it would be like driveclub. It's only obvious to you, after you have played it.

      @@LEVILENTE Does every person who buys a flight sim, buy a flight stick? Does every person who buys an arcade shooter, buy a gun? No they don't! Especially when they had no idea that they even made sims for console gamers

      Pops n Cracks you should probably take an English class if you are going to leave public comments. It doesn’t seem like you know much about how to write.

      SimRacing604 it is okay. It doesn’t seem like you know much about that game but you made an video for beginners. Find a job get a life because you are not gonna make a penny on UA-cam with your shitty attitude.
