    Nice review! I wasn't even aware that a new Oracle was coming out. I've got the standard Oracle (non-touch) and absolutely love it. A couple of tips from my own experience with this machine over the last 12 months or so, 1. keep the group handle in the group head while the machine is heating up, or run a naked shot (water only) to heat it up quickly before prepping the puck. 2. purge the steam wand before frothing your first jug of milk, this will get rid of the condensation in the wand and prevent water from entering the milk at the start of the process, you want only steam here. 3. I've had issues with shot consistency in the past and found that getting rid of the loose grinds from the puck first seems to help with this, so once the grind and self tamp has completed I give mine a very light tap upside down on the knock box to get rid of the loose grinds, then pull the shot. This also has the benefit of keeping the group head that little bit cleaner as well.

      i also have the oracle, and i think the main problem is the fact that u cant change the dose amount. you actually cant get 18g, even if u lower the screw to the last thread.

    • @jimmybbeam
      @jimmybbeam Місяць тому

      @@thesoundman out of curiosity, what is the closest you've managed to get to 18g? I haven't bothered weighing my doses, after watching plenty of reviews including one by James Hoffman, I decided not to fiddle with the dose amount and simply use the grind setting to dial it in. I do feel like we go through a lot of beans though, so I suspect each dose is greater than 18g.

    • @thesoundman
      @thesoundman Місяць тому +2

      @@jimmybbeam ok, so here is what I found so far:
      With the original basket, default settings, you will get like 22-24g!
      If you lower the fan screw to as low as possible, you will get 20-21g.
      Now, the sensor depends on the basket depth, so I found the 3bomber 15g basket, which is 2mm less deep than the original double basket. With this one you will get 18.5g-19.5g.
      Now it’s a matter of what tamp force (in the menus) and grind level to be able to get 18-18.5g. It’s really difficult to keep consistent 18g because u need to dial in ur machine from time to time and for each type of beans. So I’m kinda “live” with it at around 19g which is way more than what Ive used when I had the Barista Touch (15g-16g, and very consistent!)

    Thank you. Fantastic review. Like you said there are hardly any if no reviews out there and we like your simple and practical approach. We also love our coffee. We've got the dual boiler and also a mini Nespresso which we take camping. I think you've convinced us to buy one. The auto adjustment of the grind has sold me the different milk settings. Now just to see how we can knock the price down using points and discount coupons.

    I have my eye on this machine as a replacement for my Capresso [Jura] 1000 which I bought for US$1,000 in 1997. That wonderful Capresso (about the same size as the Breville Oracle Jet) is still working almost as well as when it was new. We do have great water in Boulder, Colorado, plus I have a water filter at my sink. So the machine gets nice water with few minerals. But the 25 year old machine has never produced the quality of foam that I saw both of you make with the Breville. That is very impressive. I brewed coffee and steamed milk in a Jura Z10 (about US$3800) a month ago, and I was not impressed enough to think of spending that kind of money. Thank you both for the demonstration.

    Thanks for a really good and down-to-earth review. Going to buy my first espresso machine shortly, have been trying to decide between the Jura E8 and Sage Barista variants and it has weighed more towards the Sage, as the cleaning feels cumbersome (and expensive) on the Jura variants.
    Now I have opened my eyes to this model and even though it costs a little more initially, it feels very interesting and is currently at the top of the shopping list.
    Thanks again, you have a new subscriber.

    You simply wasting coffee using the double basket and then press the single shot option on the machine. You should swap the basket to the integrated single or just buy another portafilter and put the single basket in. So that way both of you can use the favorite portafilter according to your favorite drink.

    Thanks for a great review in a real world context.
    I have a Jura Z7 which is ancient now, and it does a fine job with the Aldi beans (I go for the Brazil usually just to be fancy). but bits of the Old Jura are starting to show wear & tear. It's getting noisier, the clear bean cover has cracked, and I've had to replace a leaking water tank. So thanks for showing this new machine to give me some idea of the new stuff out there.

    awesome review, really considering this machine to replace my Breville Barista Express Impress. One thing to note i saw from another review was the underneath of the steam wand, around the temp sensor can get a little crusty with milk, be sure to double check that and clean it often, when wiping the milk off be sure to wipe under too not just around =D

    Loved your review! I have a quick question: if you are preparing 4-5 coffees, do you need to wait a long time between coffees, or is it straight away? It will usually just be 2 (wifey and me), but sometimes we'll have some family over and they ask for coffee, so we need to keep them happy... Thanks!

    Great review! My partner and I currently have the Barista Touch, which we love - bought it new about 4 years ago, and not a single issue with it. We did purchase a Breville Smart Grinder Pro to always have 2 different beans available without a hassle. We keep the baseline Lavazza Super Crema in the machine, and the special beans (currently Jamaican Blue Mountain/Clifton Mount Estate Medium) in the Grinder Pro.
    I'm curious what you would think about the Lavazza Super Crema bean...?

    • @testandtune6096
      @testandtune6096  2 дні тому +1

      We have not tried the super crema. However i will add it to the list. A few people have made some awesome suggestions so far. Just a bit of a follow up. My jura z9 is back working. Side by side for the coffee they produce, the breville is in a different leage. The jura is an old machine. But even adjusting settings in the z9 i can not make a comparable coffee to what the breville is doing.

    As far as supermarket beans go, Lazzio are pretty good. They are always winning awards in their category. My favourite supermarket bean is Vittoria Mountain Grown - heaps of chocolate flavour and always on special at half price $22 per kg at either Coles or Woolies. Nice review and nice machine!

    I really want to replace my Ascaso Steel Duo with this machine lol. I primarily want this so that my sister doesn't bug me in making her a latte every morning while I try to sleep. I want this so that my family can just touch three buttons and the coffee is done. I wonder if this machine provides the same results as the Ascaso. I have a separate 83mm flat burr I use for espresso hopefully I can achieve the same taste for the espresso with that tiny burr.

    This just became available at my local Crate & Barrel, and I think I’ll save up for it. I was interested in the Barista Touch but the screen looked very dated, and this refresh + upgrade is just what I was looking for. Have you tried using the “cold brew” feature? Thank you for the entertaining and informative breakdown!

    • @testandtune6096
      @testandtune6096  6 днів тому

      Yes I have. To be honest I didn’t think much of the cold brew feature. I used to drink a lot of iced coffee. With the jura I would just run the espresso shot straight over ice. This takes longer to dispense in cold brew, requires a grind adjustment. Cold coffee always tastes so different so maybe I need to have a few more to appreciate the cold brew profile. But right now, I wouldn’t lean on it as a selling point.
      That said nearly a month in. I love this machine. I got my jura fixed this week up to check if my memory was scewed. This breville makes a much better late. Not even comparable.

    I have the last model, I had problems with the brewing solenoid, first payd by the company (they knew about the problem), second one was on me, then the milk wand had some parts to be replaced , I think I spend like 200-250$ yearly work and maintenance / 6years total , still rocking , guess That's the price you pay for having a great machine .

      @testandtune6096 I do the cleaning cycle every week (just water), I rinse for 5 seconds every brew and milk wand rinse as well after use . Now , you can buy the beans you like the most it's your money and machine but just be careful with supermarket beans on how quickly they release fat from the inside , you don't want that oily droplets inside that increible grinding mechanism. 🤙
      Ps . I dont use tap water now too many minerals , creates a white build inside.

    I have a Jura Z10 which is way more expensive and it’s still awful. I think the reason is that Jura like all full automatic machines has just a brewing pressure of 3bar.

    Thanks for the video I have been after a review on these coffee machine. Tho they are out of our price range. I am however going to pick up an original Oracle next week. My youngest son has one and it’s amazing value for the $950 off Facebook marketplace for a certified referb machine. Ours is on order.
    Like you I found the Oracle produces excellent shots. Actually much better than the Rocket Giotto we had about 17 years ago. Unreliable POS that was. It was the first of the Rocket branded Giotto’s. So the new ones might be better.
    Try some beans from some local roasters there are some real gems.
    I am picking up a DF54 grinder as a single dose grinder for those “special” beans or decafe and have our “daily” probably CoffeeSnobs Gold which will live in the grinder as our “we dont have a lot of time but need a coffee” beans.

From the reviews I have seen there isn’t a lot of difference In taste between the DF54, DF64 and DF83 and unless you want to play around with the different burr sets the two bigger grinders probably aren’t worth it. We also have a small kitchen so it will probably be the DF54 for us. They are cheapest off eBay or Amazon. Tho some local shops have these range of grinders at reasonable prices.
