Thank you so much! I was so nervous... hahahah it was actually my first tutorial so this means the world to me! I'm super happy you found it helpful! Thanks for letting me know :)
Thank you so much!! It really means a lot to me that you found it useful, since it was my first video tutorial and I was suuuper nervous hahahah I had to record it infinite times but I see it's worth it! :)
Haha, you're very welcome! Oh, is it really your first? Well, you did a really good job then (: It goes directly to the point, it's easy to understand, and very straightforward. Keep it up!
oh thank you Bernice! I'm sorry for my late reply, I didn't saw your message :) I'm so glad you like it! I send a free phone wallpaper every month, if you want to have them you can subscribe here: eepurl.com/cia5l5
I taught photoshop since version 1.5 or so, way back. This is a fantastic video. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work and process with us.
Your tutorial is the best! I've been watching different kinds of pattern tutorial and I still haven't got right until now after I saw yours it's very easy to understand and now I tried it myself with my own design it worked hallelujah! Thanks very much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've been looking for this since long, long time. Only one question about elements (in this case leaves) introduced to pattern, what elements size is most suitable 1000 X 1000, bigger, smaller or no importance. Thank you for reply.
Yay! Glad to hear that :) You can use the illustrations at any size. Depending on how big you want your pattern to be you'll need bigger or smaller illustrations. I use them at the size I scanned them, so I don't look that much into the original painting size...
Hello, thank you for the very useful video! How should I send the pattern to someone for printing? Should I send them the square with the pattern as a pdf? Thanks
You are very welcome! Well it may depend on what they'll use to print it. Usually with just a jpeg should be enough. The best thing is to ask directly how they need the file and send it in the format they need ☺️
Hello, this was very helpful. Thank you. It seems there are so many different ways to approach/tackle how to get the same desired result. Question...The pattern is continuous, correct? In the past, when I have a continuous file, what is at the top portion is connected to the bottom. Your end result did not seem that way. Can you explain?
Hello Janine! Thank you for your comment :) Yes the pattern is 100% continuous so it's connected both from the top and bottom and also from left to right
Thank you for your tutorial! it was really helpful. just a quick question do you know how can i can a file of the artwork with transparency background?
Hello! Thank you so much for your comment :) I'm not sure I understood your question. Do you want to have the file with transparent background? If so, you can delete the background layer and save your file in .psd or .png
This video was so lovely and informative. Thank you thank you thank you. Do you think you could make a tutorial on how you make your watercolor illustrations such clean and transparent .pngs? They're really perfect
Sure!! And let me know if there's anything you don't understand so that I can translate it for you :) About your video requests, I've been working on it and I've recorded two tutorials showing how I scan my watercolor paintings and how I clean the files and delete the background with Photoshop. You can see all the process here: www.heartmade.es/paint-holly-leaves-scan-cleaning-watercolor-paintings/ I hope you like them! And again, thank you so much for your comments and requests, it motivates me and helps me know what else can I do to help other creatives online :) xo, Claudia
Thanks Mahmoud!! Sure you can, just be aware that sometimes, depending on their printing methods, they need you to reduce the colors so you must talk with your providers to know if they will do that work or if you should do it :)
Thanks for the tutorial. i'm having trouble hearing what you said at about 3:12 when you say "forget about the size and place ____" i don't know what you do and CC says place in toronto which i'm sure isn't right.
🙊I'm sorry it was my first videotutorial plus my English pronunciation needs some improvement hahahaha What I say is "Forget about the size and press intro until you have them all in place"
Hi Marcela! I'm now sure if I'm understanding what you need, but I'll try :) Do you mean how do I paint the watercolors? I paint them by hand on a paper and I digitize them to edit the pattern with Photoshop. You can find other tutorials on how I paint, scan and clean my paintings with Photoshop here: - how to paint hearts with watercolors: ua-cam.com/video/XC6jEUs_7Yw/v-deo.html - how to paint holly leaves with watercolors: ua-cam.com/video/2FYfBy3XcTQ/v-deo.html - how to scan your paintings: ua-cam.com/video/Pk2cz5mlX1U/v-deo.html - how to clean your paintings and have transparent background: ua-cam.com/video/wWPCJ7N-4PE/v-deo.html Is this what you needed?
Yes that's right! I hand painted the leaves, scanned them and cleaned the background in Photoshop to use them as cliparts. If you are interested in the whole process from painting to clipart to sell or use for your own creations, I have a course teaching all the steps. Let me know and I'll happily send you the link!
I teach at FIT and thought this was a great video! I was wondering if you know about Smart Groups? I learned about Smart Groups from another UA-cam tutorial.
Oh Amy thank you so much!! It's a great idea to combine all the layers into a smart layer, then apply the offset to it and in case we need to move one of them we can always edit it... Awesome! Thank youuuuuu
Thank you soooo much for this beautiful comment! I'm super happy you found it so useful :) And it seems like the planets aligned because I have been all morning recording videos for a course in which I teach everything in deep for creating seamless patterns and your comment gives me the feedback I needed!! So to answer your questions: - 1) in case you are using your illustrations, just scan them at a good ressolution (minimum 300ppp), delete the background and save them as .png. Vectorizing them in Illustrator can be a good idea but then you should create the pattern there too. Photoshop is pixel based so it makes more sense to work directly with pixels because at the end you will have a .psd file… I don’t know if I’m explaining myself well or I’m messing your mind but my point is that I would not vectorize the illustrations to work with Photoshop. If you want a vector pattern, then you can create it with Illustrator instead of Photoshop :) - 2) If your pattern is for textile, then you can just leave it as I show in the video and they can print it with digital printing methods. But usually for textile they work with Channels, creating a new channel for each color. Like that they can easily change the tones to adapt to their inks… But in the video I only cover the “easy” way. Channels can be more complicated, especially with watercolor illustrations that have soooo many shades… I hope you found the answers you needed and thank you again for your comment!!
Thank you so much for your reply! I wasn't expecting it to be so quick, plus you've really shed some light onto my questions! Thanks again and I can't wait to see more videos from you in the future! :D
Dear Irina, 2 months ago you asked me how to clean your own illustrations with Photoshop and since other people has been wondering the same I decided to record new video tutorials showing my process of scanning and cleaning. You can find them here: www.heartmade.es/paint-holly-leaves-scan-cleaning-watercolor-paintings/ I really hope they help you and please let me know if you have any more doubts, I love reading new comments and yours was very helpful!! Wish you the best, Claudia
