@Walter Jordan i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hi there mate, Just wanted to pass on something from the comment in the Community page For that File. Sweeeeeeet! There are a couple of simple mods that I think are a must for LCDs. One takes away the bloom (that fuzziness around the lettering) which I think might help to make your multi-screen picture look a bit sharper. The second removes that annoying yellow highlight that you get whenever you hover over (look at) the screen. This is a nice help but you need to be a bit more patient when placing the screes as the arrows don't appear - a bit of trial and error sorts it out. Happy to share the mods if you give the go ahead, Splitsie
Please do! I'm always happy for you guys to share stuff :) I often play with the mod that turns off all of the yellow highlights, but I thought that might make things a bit odd for newer players if I used it in the tutorials... didn't realise it got rid of the direction marker on the LCDs though, that's a bit weird :P
Just thought it best to check. Some UA-camrs get a tad upset if other players are mentioned on their channel. I find the yellow highlight very annoying and getting rid of it is worth the extra effort to get the panels correctly orientated. On panels the yellow highlight has always been way over the top - in fact I've always felt the 'new' yellow highlight that got applied to doors and everything else was way over the top, but I guess it made it easier for some things... The steam links have always been a bit of an annoyance, you can either browse the workshop with a normal browser or use the share button which would give a link - I only just discovered this button while writing this comment, I've been using chrome to browse and get links for a very long time and now feel quite silly :P
They seem to have the balance all out of whack with some of their imagery. The yellow highlights are, as you say, over the top, while the transparent images you get when trying to orientate a block are so faint that they are sometimes impossible to work out unless the colour is changed. I now feel like a goose for not spotting the Share button. I'll edit the post to include the links.
That's exactly how I felt when I discovered it this morning :P Completely agree, I find it really difficult to work out which way around some of the angled blocks are until I actually place them down - or take a loop around the block to try and see which part is the clear part...
Here's a question... As I've mentioned in other comments, I'm currently working on an underground bunker type structure for my main base. I wonder if your problem has something to do with the issues I have trying to use timers for my tests - the timing in space engineers is incredibly unreliable. I think the only reliable way for you to do that would be through some sort of script. Sadly I'm not your guy on how to write that, I'm sure there's someone on the discord or forums that would help/write a quick script for you.
It makes me unbelievably sad to see your first text wasn't 'Hello World'. This is a common test for programmers to see if their program is working when first learning to code, and I was expecting you to. Granted I am a coder myself, and of course you may not be, but it made for a good laugh on my part. Also even though these videos are a bit old, just know they're still helping someone brand new like me out
Ive known about that method of using text to add in images but never knew how it was done, been wanting to find out so this was perfect, think im going to go download that software right now then I can have my logo in my worlds. :)
Nice :) I'm really glad this was something others wanted to know as well. When I saw W4sted use this method in one of his streams in Escape from Mars I just couldn't resist working out how it was done as it seemed incredibly handy.
I want to see someone that has made a brick of a ship, but then got a whole bunch of LCD's on the side of it making a picture of the Enterprise of something.
Nice that you included image importing. I've tried it on my own, but it didn't work for some reason. Could be because I didn't uncheck URL Encode, I don't remember. By the way, URL encode makes sure a character string can be used as a URL, by replacing characters that can't be in it by a so-called escape sequence. For example, a space is encoded by %20. Not sure what it's needed for in that program, but it makes sense that it prevents this trick from working.
That's insanely clever, the space engineer community is incredible EDIT: My antivirus detected the software as 'Malicious.moderate.ml.score' You might want to be careful with this as it appears to be unsafe currently
You can also load the same images onto the small LCDs, can be handy for some personalisation of vehicles, but you're right they are mainly useful for story or 'HUD' type elements on small ships with MMaster's scripts :)
I came across a text panel in an SPRT asteroid base (a Mayday that I took over) that had a pic of a palm tree on a beach and the words "There's no place like home". There is only one mod on the server I'm playing on, and it's only for speed. I came to find out how to do this, myself... but, you're saying I need a mod :/ BTW, I love what you do and am grateful for it. I watched your tutorials and other vids for about a month before jumping into the game after hearing about it. Thanks to you, I've done well, IMO, in the few months I've been playing.
If you watched the whole video you should have seen the bits where I showed the conversion of images to monospace font, that technique is what you need to do to make images work on servers where you can't use mods. Be cautious with how much you use this as it is known to cause some significant performance problems when there are a lot of those on a server at once to the point that some servers ban their use (it's to do with the loading of the monospace text which does not happen particularly efficiently) :/ Glad to have been able to help you get into the game :)
@@Splitsie My bad, I was interrupted while trying to watch. Must've been during that bit. I'll watch it, again. But, if it's such a p.i.t.a. in regards to performance, I prob won't be using them LoL
@@Splitsie I finally got a moment to watch your vid, again... And, I ended up putting this profile pic here on a transparent LCD :) No prob. Wondering if you might know why, when I go into the options and choose "faction" in the LCD or text panels, it puts the pink fist on the panel instead of the logo I picked for my faction when I made it up...?
@Splitsie Be careful when using microsoft word, Michael. Your name was just broadcasted to the internet. Love your videos man, keep up the good work :)
All good, I try to be careful of such things even though I'm sure my real name will be public knowledge more widely soon enough. I still try to minimise it though as I hope it'll prevent more significant pieces of info getting out there in the future :)
Thanks Mick :) I wanted to look at the automatic LCDs and the blocks damaged one, which may take more than a video, it depends on how easy they are to explain how to use... Have you used any that you think would be particularly good to share?
So far I have only used TIM, which is limited in its usefulness for LCDs and the recently subscribed Automatic LCDs 2 as, as explained under D3adly Trip's comment below. For my money, Automatic LCDs surpasses TIM as TIM is all about inventory management with some LCD information available. Whilst Automatic LCDs is all about displaying information on LCDs and nothing else. You may find Automatic LCDs a bit extensive to cover in a clip and may find it easier to show some of its aspects and leave the instructions of how to use it to Matt and his video. Having said that, I am putting my own brief notes together for its use as it is impractical to keep referring back to the video when trying to work something out in game and the 34 page instruction can be a little overwhelming.
That sounds like a good idea, I'll contact Matt and get his thoughts on it and make sure he doesn't have any issues with me covering some of the same stuff. Since he has his own video on the topic I don't want to do anything that might seem like I'm stealing his hard work.
Here's a glimpse of what I have been able to achieve with Matt's Auto LCD Script so far (now I have learned how to share) steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1118836669 This programme produces hours of entertainment all by its self.
Did you ever tested Floor plan script or Phils Ship Diagnostics script? Can you make a tutorial and test it?It is showing you on LCD panel health status of your ship.
I haven't played with either to be honest. With the new modAPI I plan to start going through some of the more popular scripts as they get updated to the new system so I'll keep those in mind :)
You're welcome! I saw W4sted using this technique in one of his streams and I just had to figure it out, so I thought there would probably be more than a few other people wondering the same thing :)
Can you do a tutorial for Vanilla LCD screens? What the settings do and what can dome with them. Im specifically trying to find out how to trigger my cockpit screens kinda like event controllers. Im on console (ps4) and im learning the game with no mods or scripts. This is the most detailed video on the settings i can find CLOSE to cockpit screen settings. Any help would be awesome!!!!
With changes to LCD images, can you still make the images the same way? If not, could you do a new tutorial showing how to do the new format & how to convert old images to the new format (Back-light and Visibility issues on the older ones)
As far as I've used them everything still works the same as when I made this video. When you're making new images as a mod you need to use something like Photoshop to create the alpha channel properly so the backlighting works, took me a little bit of fiddling to get the right look plus you have to find the right plugin so you can make the .dds as some of then only work on 32 bit versions :/
Do you know the name of the Plug-in? Hmmm, .dds files are also used when modding skyrim & fallout. I'll have to have a look at the tools available for those.
the download link is having a lot of issues for people, every time i use it i get an empty zip, is it possible you could link to the file you have downloaded from your own link?
How can I get it to use the whole Wide LCD screen in Vertical orientation? I'm trying to get a list of missing parts on from my projector, I rotated the text to the correct orientation and only the top half of the screen, I'm using the LCDs 2 Script.
Ah, I see what you mean now. When in creative mode, you can alter the distance at which something is placed by holding down ctrl then using the mousewheel to move it in and out :)
Great video splitsie. Just came up with a great idea for my borg ship.take a screen shot of space and spit it up to all lcd sides of the borg ship as a cloaking device.this is so cool.im now one for mods but I'm into scripts.they don't mess up the game.plus I'm down to finishing the borg ship.ran into a problem I got builders block.like writers block.plus it takes 30 seconds to place 1 block.it must be that the ship is too big .it is basically the size of the moon.the planet destroyer. Shared on fb
Thanks Stan! You could probably get a similar cloaking effect from just using windows to coat the ship. There have been a few popular ships on the workshop recently that have taken full advantage of this which I think is pretty cool :) When the ships get too big you definitely get a delay in block placement, sometimes this can be because of having pressurisation on though, so you might want to check and try turning it off and see if that helps.
There have been some mods and scripts that have allowed you to set them up to connect to cameras but as it requires rendering a whole second scene the performance impacts from these are very high so I've never tried to use them myself :(
I tried this, but the text box acts like Microsoft Notepad, and runs the whole thing on one line. This results in the screen, at best, displaying one single line of pixels. Is there any way I can fix it to where it has margins?
Try Whip's image converter instead (should be able to find it with a google search for Space Engineers Whip's image converter) as it's still maintained and hopefully has the line breaks you're missing :)
I was going to do a short guide on how to use some of the scripts, but I'm slightly dense when it comes to learning scripting so I'll leave how to write them to people much smarter than I :)
It would be nice to be able to do that, but I've never been able to get an LCD to switch what it's displaying fast enough to appear like things are moving :(
@@Splitsie maybe you can give the illusion its moving fast when it actually isnt. Instead of making a monitor change images very fast, you can make different monitors change the image each at their own interval - just like old televisions did!
The text based mode of the TV which you can use without adding mods to your save (and so will work on servers you don't have control over) has a max resolution of 178x178, to get higher resolution of 512x512 you have to create an image mod which requires photoshop with particular plugins to create (I think there might be plugins for GIMP as well but not certain)
It's something I want to look into, I'll probably limit it to just the easiest ships though as I wouldn't want to ruin the fun of figuring the others out for people - at least that's the excuse I'm going for as I still haven't managed that many successful raids on the more difficult ones :P
No worries. I am pretty confident I can manage that much :) Don't ask me how to take out an argentavis though - those things have destroyed many a ship of mine :P
I know they're useful for very large or heavy ships as you can get decent acceleration from them, however I've never found much use for them myself as I have a 'Just add MORE thrusters' sort of attitude when my ship doesn't move well enough :P I am planning on covering them at some point though as they're an important part of the game for a lot of people :) Have you used them much? Am I missing something they work really well for?
b..but don't your ships look ugly afterwards ? it's not always possible to add an extra set of thrusters, but I guess if you can fit a gravity drive you might as well fit that extra set of thrusters.. I am gonna try it on a mothership / mobile base, it's like 5k blocks without most blocks
That's a good point, the only true mothership I've built (to completion) was for my machinima and I used modded enormous thrusters on it... The downside of them is that they're not great if you need to change direction, while you can make directional ones I'm not sure how practical that would be for normal use, Sage made one in a video a while back that looked cool but incredibly awkward :P
Thanks, I'd recommend looking at Whip's image converter instead of the software I used in this video as it's been maintained for longer and is now a bit more feature rich :)
The link in the description takes you to the steam workshop, then the link in the description on the workshop page is the software, I've used it myself but I've got no way of guaranteeing that it's safe though as I didn't make it or control it
It seems my phone doesn't like me when it comes to seeing a description... but I see them just fine on my computer. Thank you again. Also, would you want to check out my build? I just published it on the Workshop. It's my first large creation I've posted on there, with a whole lot more coming.
problem is the file is zipped.. and i have used all my free time for all the free unzippers i can find... found another file by whip that does same thing and is not a zip file
It's through the creation of a very basic mod. I haven't covered it specifically in a tutorial anywhere but the basic idea is very similar to the planetary cargo ships tutorial I did - which should give you what you need to take apart any other image mod and see how to create your own. Though there is some annoying working with the image format that's more painful to work through.
I haven't used it yet, but I've always intended to as the functions seem pretty cool. It was the exact script I was thinking of for taking a second look at LCDs and maybe the first script to take a look at :)
I have only just (yesterday) plucked up the courage to try Automatic LCD's 2 and it is nothing short of brilliant. I found that it had a very steep learning curve (probably because I am a chalk and slate guy), but once I started getting the hang of it, I found it to be incredibly useful. (Spent the best part of 4 hours with it alone last night). There are no bound (that I can find) to limit the amount of information that can be displayed. Matt has put out a very informative tutorial video for it and he has a whopping 34 page instruction for the programme. I'm still learning, but so far I find it is a great tool.
Yeah Automatic LCD's 2 is one script i can't go without! It's not that hard to use ether, Well to me anyway. Once you learn how to use it, It's as simple as typing in a few words into the LCD's that you choose to display what ever information about about your Gird that you could possibly need. Great Script. I also have to have Isy's Solar Alignment it aligns your solar panels while on a planet to the star to receive the most output possible using rotors not hard to set up. These scripts is easy stuff for us, all and all thanks to the coders who made these and uploaded them to the steam workshop for anybody that needs it. It's all awesome stuff!
The people who write this sort of stuff are amazing, it's nice that keen's picked up a few of them over the years - rexxar being the most prominent of the lot :)
If there was a way to get the mono space font stuff in (I can't think of one where you could copy and paste the text) then yes, but the mod based approach isn't possible
@@Splitsie Hey thank you for actually responding! I know you are probably busy, so I really appreciate you taking the time! Thanks for the information. I will keep searching for ways. Take care of yourself!
I second that recommendation: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=861361363 It's unfortunate that they keep taking lighting lessons from JJ Abrams movies :(
Right, it just makes the LCD's worthless. I actually stopped playing SE for a while due to the LCD bloom because it was giving me headaches. This mod saved the game for me.
except i'm having the same issue... seems they keep breaking it... may be time to show how to add images as a mod.. "if you dont have that vid already".....
It still works, though there's a better external piece of software to generate the images made by whiplash 141. I'm pretty sure I've linked it in a comment on this one somewhere
If you're talking about the conversion thing, there's a newer piece of software made by Whiplash141, called whip's image converter which still works :)

Be cautious with how much you use this as it is known to cause some significant performance problems when there are a lot of those on a server at once to the point that some servers ban their use (it's to do with the loading of the monospace text which does not happen particularly efficiently) :/
Glad to have been able to help you get into the game :)
@@Splitsie No idea? Or, did my question not make any sense?! LoL
It'd be cool if you can load up videos in a movie on those cell LCDs and set up a big theater and have all your friends watch
It would be fun, sadly it's not doable though :(
@Splitsie Be careful when using microsoft word, Michael. Your name was just broadcasted to the internet. Love your videos man, keep up the good work :)
Sorry, didn't notice that someone already mentioned this in another comment :p
All good, I try to be careful of such things even though I'm sure my real name will be public knowledge more widely soon enough. I still try to minimise it though as I hope it'll prevent more significant pieces of info getting out there in the future :)
nice Video!
Thank you :)
Nice to see your sub count rising steadily.
It will be interesting to see the scrips you highlight.
Thanks Mick :)
I wanted to look at the automatic LCDs and the blocks damaged one, which may take more than a video, it depends on how easy they are to explain how to use...
Here's a glimpse of what I have been able to achieve with Matt's Auto LCD Script so far (now I have learned how to share)

This programme produces hours of entertainment all by its self.
Nice :)
I think I might like this, fingers crossed I don't lose too much time to it
That's funny. I was about to look for how to make image and then you uploaded that video. Thanks
You've gotta love some happy coincidences :)
I think the sunset scene is nice has a Cyber punk tokyo style fell to it gritty
You need more subs
thanks :)
Love your detailed videos
Thanks Damian :)
awesome i always wondered how to put images on lcds thanks alot :)
You're welcome!
I saw W4sted using this technique in one of his streams and I just had to figure it out, so I thought there would probably be more than a few other people wondering the same thing :)
Your videos are really good, let me know where ya playin :) thanks mate!
I have a feeling your next video will be about the parachute block.
It might be... ;)
I've used the nvidia one I think, there were a few others I tried that didn't seem to work.
I think this is the one I installed: www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76482/?
The official nvidia one doesn't work for 64bit but this one should :)
Thanks, m8
the download link is having a lot of issues for people, every time i use it i get an empty zip, is it possible you could link to the file you have downloaded from your own link?
Any guides for making a Image pack to upload to the workshop? Am building a ship to share and want custom LCD images.
How can I get it to use the whole Wide LCD screen in Vertical orientation? I'm trying to get a list of missing parts on from my projector, I rotated the text to the correct orientation and only the top half of the screen, I'm using the LCDs 2 Script.
Idk if it's been asked before, but how did you get the reactor to come towards you
I'm not sure what you mean, can you give me a time code to look at?
@@Splitsie I believe it's around 3.30 odd
Ah, I see what you mean now. When in creative mode, you can alter the distance at which something is placed by holding down ctrl then using the mousewheel to move it in and out :)
@@Splitsie thank you my dude! Been loving your tutorial series
Good video! This video helped me a lot!
You're welcome, very pleased to be helpful :)
How do you add a planet or a moon to the map??
In creative mode press shift+f10, a menu will appear that allows you to add planets, asteroids and items :)
its left shift and f10 or alt and f10 I dont remember just go and press f1 it will tell you the commands
Nice tutorial once again :)
Thank you very much :)
Hey, how do I get an LCD to display a countdown with a script? Are there any available? Please help
Perfect....Thanks a lot
idk why but when i put the text of it automaticly i have it in one looong line
and i dont know how to fix it pls help
Yah. Watched this and still want to know how to get FactionIcon published to Workshop as mod
I can't used them to put NSFW picture in single player, or surprise in multiplayers on server.
wait what why could you not
Doesn't seem to allow me to Ctrl+V into the text panel area. Won't let me do it in a programmable block either.. Help?
Keen introduced a bug with copy and paste into text fields in the last minor patch, hopefully it'll be fixed soon
Yeah, this hot fix solved it. Cheers!
was the software SEimage2LCD recently removed? i can't seem to find it anywhere, even with the link you provided
edit! came back here some weeks later and it seems like the link now works just fine. dont know why, dont know how. im just happy it now works
There have been a few popular ships on the workshop recently that have taken full advantage of this which I think is pretty cool :)
When the ships get too big you definitely get a delay in block placement, sometimes this can be because of having pressurisation on though, so you might want to check and try turning it off and see if that helps.
Is it possible to connect Cameras to them?
There have been some mods and scripts that have allowed you to set them up to connect to cameras but as it requires rendering a whole second scene the performance impacts from these are very high so I've never tried to use them myself :(
Splitsie this is the answer is came to learn. Guess I have to mod for it.
@@Splitsie That was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much!
This is great! Thank you! Would love to see more info about scripting. Is this Unity or RestfulAPI, etc?
I was going to do a short guide on how to use some of the scripts, but I'm slightly dense when it comes to learning scripting so I'll leave how to write them to people much smarter than I :)
Since no one bothered answering in 2 years: It's mostly C# and a pitch of XML.
how do u bring blocks farther away and closer?
That only works in creative mode or with the 'Build Info' mod. Using ctrl+mousewheel you can move the placement area closer or further away :)
the download on the side is not workingfor that tool
you could use the sunset pic as a faux window in your base
I might have done similar things in my two let's play series, works quite nicely :)
can you use that for the Xbox
When I paste the text it comes out as a single long line instead of going down after every line, how can I fix this issue?
It might be worth trying Whip's Image converter instead of the software I used and see if that pastes in correctly
ik im 7 months late but unclick RLE encode
If you could add multiple text to a single lcd and have them change just like images, you could have gifs!
You might be able to achieve something like that with a programmable block, but trying to do that is well beyond me :P
Now is there any way to make this work for GIFs?
Sadly not
for 8k u need 24 in a row and 43 in a column
Given how long it took me to generate the image for the 2x3 I am sooooo not doing that :P
u have i7 ?
is there a mod to give the panel better picture quality??
The text based mode of the TV which you can use without adding mods to your save (and so will work on servers you don't have control over) has a max resolution of 178x178, to get higher resolution of 512x512 you have to create an image mod which requires photoshop with particular plugins to create (I think there might be plugins for GIMP as well but not certain)
would you mind doing a video about how to capture the various cargo ships in SE?
It's something I want to look into, I'll probably limit it to just the easiest ships though as I wouldn't want to ruin the fun of figuring the others out for people - at least that's the excuse I'm going for as I still haven't managed that many successful raids on the more difficult ones :P
thanks man, I just want to get a general idea of how raiding works
No worries. I am pretty confident I can manage that much :)
Don't ask me how to take out an argentavis though - those things have destroyed many a ship of mine :P
if i see the argentavis in my survival world, im burying myself in the nearest asteroid til its gone XD
that thing is fucking insane
Lol! that's my attitude too - that or throw inert rocks at it from a great distance...
Hey splitsie what do you think of gravity drives?
I know they're useful for very large or heavy ships as you can get decent acceleration from them, however I've never found much use for them myself as I have a 'Just add MORE thrusters' sort of attitude when my ship doesn't move well enough :P
I am planning on covering them at some point though as they're an important part of the game for a lot of people :)
Have you used them much?
Very helpful
Thanks, I'd recommend looking at Whip's image converter instead of the software I used in this video as it's been maintained for longer and is now a bit more feature rich :)
@@Splitsie thanks once again
Do you have a link to that program? Tried myself... but they looked a little fishy
How you imported the images in the texture menù of the game?
It's through the creation of a very basic mod. I haven't covered it specifically in a tutorial anywhere but the basic idea is very similar to the planetary cargo ships tutorial I did - which should give you what you need to take apart any other image mod and see how to create your own. Though there is some annoying working with the image format that's more painful to work through.
You ever try Automatic LCD's 2?
Zip file will not download. In Russia? Perhaps blocked in some way?
There's another one by whip that might work 'whip's image converter'
Is there a way to do this on the Xbox one?
If there was a way to get the mono space font stuff in (I can't think of one where you could copy and paste the text) then yes, but the mod based approach isn't possible
@@Splitsie Hey thank you for actually responding! I know you are probably busy, so I really appreciate you taking the time! Thanks for the information. I will keep searching for ways. Take care of yourself!
Has anyone updated the LCD2text program to account for different LCD sizes yet? Might be an interesting programming challenge
I've not seen an update to use the widescreen ones, but if you or someone comes across one I'd love to hear about it :)
look for one done by whip.. i think its on github.. called Whips_Image_Converter.exe... seems to have widescreen options...
Dude I can put pin up girls on my ship now.
awesome!

But how might this work for Xbox users
Why in hi-tech game lcd?
I guess they just used a name we're familiar with

Recommend checking out Reduced Bloom(861361363) by Blargmode to make the LCD's look better.
I second that recommendation: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=861361363
It's unfortunate that they keep taking lighting lessons from JJ Abrams movies :(
Right, it just makes the LCD's worthless. I actually stopped playing SE for a while due to the LCD bloom because it was giving me headaches. This mod saved the game for me.
i cant paste text in the edit text screen :S
It's a bug in the latest minor patch, hopefully it'll get fixed soon
well funny enough it was fixed in last night's patch xD
except i'm having the same issue... seems they keep breaking it... may be time to show how to add images as a mod.. "if you dont have that vid already".....
Remember kids, don't do LCD and go to space
Or do and take your bright colours with you :)
Dont work anymore, Or requires specific images, that are not stated.
It still works, though there's a better external piece of software to generate the images made by whiplash 141. I'm pretty sure I've linked it in a comment on this one somewhere
Ah kk, ill have a look see if i can find it.
Yes the one by whiplash 141 works great thanks so much.@@Splitsie
