@sxwilli 🙂Some years back, I saw an ABBA tribute band , "Arrival From Sweden", in Providence, Rhode Island, and they opened the show with "Bara Du Slog En Signal", which is "Ring Ring" in their native Swedish language.
There is no way you could whip up anything better than I Am Just A Girl no matter how long you had. That is not a slam against you. The melody and arrangement are wonderful. And those horns, wow

with the reviews of all ABBA albums
And it's a fantastic moment to begin with ABBA,
because is the 50th anniversary of these first album
To start we have to understand its context:
Björn & Benny are the songwriters of almost all ABBA recording
They are inspired as composers specialy by
The BEATLES ((UK) & The Beach Boys (USA)
Their first album "Ring Ring" (1973)
is more like a support
from the girls Agnetha & Frida
to their partners Björn & Benny as a duo
(actually credits go to
'Björn & Benny; Agnetha & Frida')
Even the girls had their solo careers
and with different record companies
That's why there are many more songs sung by Björn & Benny than in the following albums
"Ring Ring"
is the first song in which they apply the effect "wall of sound" characteristic of the future ABBA
It's the one they prepared to go to Eurovision,
but it was third in the Swedish elimination
(with Agnetha about to give birth to her first child)
"Nina pretty ballerina"
is the first time that Agnetha & Frida are the leading voices
"Disilussion"
is the only composition of Agnetha within ABBA
(two years later she will record it in Swedish for her solo album)
"Me & Bobby & Bobby's brother"
has Frida in her first solo
In 3 songs, the men sing a verse and the gils answer:
"People need love"
"He is your brother"
"Love isn't easy"
Considering it's Their first album,
that Björn and Benny still had to attend productions for other artists of the recorder,
that Agnetha & Frida solo careers coexisted
and Agnetha's first maternity,
It is an even album and very pleasant to listen to.
"Ring Ring"
was an initial hit in Sweden and parts of Europe
"Another town another train" & "I'm just a girl"
shows the potential of choirs from all over ABBA
"People need love" & "He is your brother"
(the first and second single, both from 1972,
before the album was a real project)
are universal love lyrics
with beautiful melodies and powerful choruses
"Love isn't easy" it's so funny
"Disilussion" is a beauty ballad
there are few loose songs, as well as few that stand out conspicuously
In my opinion, it is an album that exceeds 6,5 average points

BTW 'Me and Bobby and Bobby's brother" is the song that gave its name to great Utuber and ABBA passionate special 'investigator' 'Bobby's Brother' that's a kinda dreamland for many real Abba fans old new and any Gen.
Ring Ring,He is your brother,Nina,Another town ,and People need love, are all familiar big hits on their own to older Abba fans who survived the '70s regarding the fact that they were all part of the multiplatinum 'Greatest hits' 1975/76 album that's an iconic chapter of that decades discography and era as well as the band's early work before the ARRIVAL album.
I'd put ring ring to the front of good at least, the harmonies of Agnetha and Frida are so good in this song

I would put Ring Ring and Another Town Another Train and Nina Pretty Ballerina in God Tier. He is Your Brother and Love Isn’t Easy in good tier. Otherwise I am ok with your selection.
Another Town Another Train I have always loved. Bjorns wistful story of a restless spirit who has to keep moving on. He captures the feeling perfectly in his vocals. I’m just adore the melody and especially the flute in this song and it’s such a catchy chorus. It’s a 10 out of 10 for me.
Nina has a quirky story, great melody and great vocals by the ladies. Ring Ring is extremely catchy with superb melodies and the ladies shine here.
The albums will get progressively harder and harder to rank. I may not always agree with your rankings but am loving the journey. As an ABBA fan from the 1970’s, I really appreciate you doing every single abba song. I haven’t seen any other reactors who are new to abba delve completely into their entire back catalogue. Ring Ring is a banger, best song on the Album and goes in God Tier for me. I really can’t wait for you each to do your top 10 songs list from the whole catalog
First hit as Björn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid
Ulvaeus and Andersson persevered with their songwriting and experimented with new sounds and vocal arrangements. "People Need Love" was released in June 1972, featuring guest vocals by the women, who were now given much greater prominence. Stig Anderson released it as a single, credited to Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid. The song peaked at number 17 in the Swedish combined single and album charts, enough to convince them they were on to something.
"People Need Love" also became the first record to chart for the quartet in the United States, where it peaked at number 114 on the Cashbox singles chart and number 117 on the Record World singles chart. Labelled as Björn & Benny (with Svenska Flicka) meaning Swedish Girl, it was released there through Playboy Records. According to Stig Anderson, "People Need Love" could have been a much bigger American hit, but a small label like Playboy Records did not have the distribution resources to meet the demand for the single from retailers and radio programmers.

Just keep in mind that every album should be 'judged" regarding the era/time that was recorded.This is a quite decent production for a '72/'73 release.Their follower LPs went even in a higher level, many times diverse if not gloriously greater to each previous one and in general sounded superior to what other acts were releasing at the time compared to ABBA's work.ABBA's sounded top notch if not untouchable by far.
You should've started with the scores you originally gave when the songs were fresh in your minds and then had a discussion to see if you wanted to change any. Your rating for I am just a girl wasn't based on the song but "the message". It's a great song.
"Another Town Another Train" is Great Tier for me, it's got a sadder tone that stood out on this album for me.

I think basically you've forgotten the songs. You'd be better listening to each album start to finish before doing your next ranking video.

a separate comment, about your review of "Ring Ring", ABBA's first album, when they still did not have their final name
The first thing is to tell you that, beyond the notorious and notable differences in tastes and opinions that I have with you on this album, I loved your video, with your negotiations between both of you to place the songs in each category.
and the second thing is to suggest doing a brief preview of 1/2 minute for each song, to refresh it for you and for some of us who see it, so the opinion becomes clearer and more informed by listening.
and a special point about some songs in particular
I think that when they see the performances of several of them, they may reconsider and change their rating.
e.g. seeing ABBA sing "He is your brother" live in Australia is one of their highlights on tour
and watching them perform "People need love" is very exciting, because of how young they were (especially Agnetha) and the first time on TV for the four of them together.
or watching the video with "Love isn't easy" from his trip to Denmark is very fun and gives more meaning to the song
I think I agree with you only on "Dissilussion" (Agnetha's only composition), as one of the best on the album
then everything different ha
I have "He is your brother" as the best, followed by "Ring Ring" (both 8pts)
and then a group with
"Another town another train", Dissilussion", "People need love", "Nina, pretty ballerina" and "Love isn't easy" (7pts)
and my weakest, for you they are the best:
"Me and Bobby and Bobby's brother", "Rock'n'roll band", "She is my kind of girl", "Mary go round" and "Santa Rosa" all between 4 / 5pts
(the only one we agree on as weak is "I saw it in the mirror" 5pts for me)
In summary, my Top5 could be
1) He is your brother
2) Ring Ring
3) Disilusion
4) People need love
5) Love isn't easy
Perhaps many of the differences we have is that I give much more value to vocal harmonies than to lyrics.
But this is what it's all about, seeing the differences, learning and respecting each person's taste.
That's why I encourage you to continue with the same enthusiasm for your next albums, in chronological order follows "Waterloo"

Agree in so many things you reffered to in your comment.Btw HIYB live '77 is an explosive performance that 'upgrades' the audio.Seems it worked far better live.I still insist both Tyler/Marissa should 'study' some Abba documentary plus their fab live appearences from '77 tour and some '79 too not to menrtion some tv specials such as the great BBC 1979 Swiss one.These are all part of pop music history.

God tier list and god tier video bro
I wish they had listened to US version of Ring Ring or at least include it in their “Waterloo” review as when that album was released it was included as the final song. It had such a rockier edge to it with the guttural sax and bombastic drum banging in place of the Brady Bunch hand clapping. Also keeping my fingers crossed that King Kong Song doesn’t end up in the “Stop” category for it is in my top 3 of all ABBA songs.

Did you ever watch the Danish TV video for Love Isn't Easy? The bass drum is a sound effect for when the girls elbow and knee the boys! It seems to be a legacy of their earlier TV work and Festfolk that they did a bit of humorous acting along with singing.

LOL You are delusional to think that Bobby's Brother is anywhere near the greatness of Ring Ring. How can you think the absolute brilliant yodeling in People Need Love is Meh? Can you yodel Tyler? Marissa? I am flabbergasted , I tell ya. Outright gobsmacked. Agog. Baffled even. Can't wait for the next one. lol

The American/Australian release of the Ring Ring single which had the added brass and more hard edge vocal was way better than the tepid Album release. It would go into the good to great tier.

Santa Rosa & Merry Go Round are not really Abba songs, although attributed to all four. They're more just a Benny & Bjorn early duos.
Indeed! He is Your Brother lyrics remind us that, despite our differences in appearance, beliefs, or social status, we are all part of the same human family. It serves as a rallying cry for unity, urging individuals to set aside their prejudices and stand by one another. To think that themes such as these are considered cheesy or cringe now is ridiculous. Especially when wrapped up in such a great catchy melody and sing a long chorus. I am appalled, I tell ya. Simply appalled.

Although I would say a song like 'Ring Ring' is better than 'Good', I can see the thinking there. It leaves room for those later songs on following albums that may be considered even better. Of course, various fans may have different views on how many songs are absolute top tier.
Agree with Dissilusion for god tier, but Ring Ring has to be much higher, top tier.. Always liked Nina pretty ballerina and I am just a girl.

Ring Ring definitely should be higher, a great infectious melody plus the blueprint for later ABBA songs in that it’s sad lyrics to a poppy upbeat song. I agree with I Saw It in The Mirror, but I Am Just A Girl is way low. It’s a pastiche of World War 2 songs, like Andrews Sisters or Vera Lynn. Perhaps it’s just too twee and quaint for young ears but my parents (in their eighties now!) loved it!!
Plus! Marissa is funnier! Though at times unconsciously so! The time she started to review a song WITHOUT headphones on was hilarious! I think it was Madonna reaction.
You can say you don’t like this or dislike that but you can’t say if we like one of your “stop tier” is because we people don’t know about music . You have to think you’re from a different era and it depends on taste and cultural/economical backgrounds, I understand your tier list and everyone can have one , However “ I am just a girl “ is one of my least ABBA songs but above any Tyler’s so called songs 😂( no hater here just my tier list ) . I have agreements & disagreements with you both but I feel it's due to age differences. This album was their first & it was from a time coming out of the 60's (Ray Conniff, The Lettermen, etc.). That is why the album is the way it is. Including "I Am Just A Girl" which is exquisite! Take care you two.

- Santa Rosa and Rock'n'roll band are both very mediocre song. Definitively Meh.
- Merry go round is Meh.
- I say it in the mirror is Yikes.
- Love isn't easy is one of the BETTER songs (Good). Quirky maybe, but so many great melody changes. It already shows the greatness of B&B.
- Nina, pretty ballerina is also good! Maybe not their best (none of these songs should be in God tier, or even in Great), but definitively not Yikes.
- Also, I'm missing a tier between Good and Meh, because Me and Bobby and Bobby's brother is 'Pretty good'. The chorus is Meh but the verse is Good.
- She's my kind of girl, I'am just a girl are both Pretty good.
- People need love is Good.
- Disillusion if not God, guys. Again, none of these songs are, but it's Good!
- Another town, another train if Good +.
- Ring ring is close to Great.

Sorry guys, but this really isn't working for me .. I could accept the fact that there are huge differences in opinion between yours and mine regarding many of these songs .. But you are making spot ratings for songs you clearly only barely remember, and are playing just a few seconds of them to supposedly bring them freshly to your mind again .. Before making these videos, you should get together and both listen to the whole album again, and then you will be much better prepared to make a proper judgement.

My own god tier song was another town another train. Several great like love isn't easy and he is your brother. Good would be ring ring, me and bobby's brother, I am just a girl, people need love. Okay would be santa rosa. The rest are meh for me.
