    I really appreciate your advocate for her wellbeing and not pushing her for the EMM. So much respect for taking it slow and going her speed.

      Right? I love the mustang makeovers, and I think this is perfect example that even the best, most experienced mustang trainers can have set backs. But the fact that Sami has put Kiwi’s best interest first sets her above and beyond, in my opinion. The bond is evident and I know they’ll get there together, in the best way for Kiwi 🖤

    I think she was meant to be with you for this makeover. Not sure if many people would be this patient and positive and caring in a set back like this. So glad it's not just for the competition for you. I know this horse will get the best home with you in charge of it!

    You began this to get her ready for the auction. You have turned into a therapist, guide, trainer, caregiver; she is now your teacher as well in that she is sharing what she needs. Fortunately you have listened to her. This is a relationship supreme.

    The slow way IS the fast way. I commend you for putting her needs first. You are already an amazing trainer and Kiwi is going to have an excellent foundation. Thank you for all you do ❤️

    Kiwi is teaching you a whole different level- she is lucky to have you as a trainer- I bet many others wouldn’t have known how to handle it. Her Liberty work was really impressive- I expected you to say it had been many weeks of liberty training, not just one!
    She definitely has connection- I bet she’s going to be an awesome partner for the right person

    Could it be that she’s almost like a dog in being super attached to you? So if you go away for a while she becomes distraught? You know exactly what to do with her in scratches, teaching, etc., and changing that, she can’t easily find comfort with a new person? You are so amazing with her and she seems so so contented with you. I would take her in a heartbeat if I could. Great video as well. You have come so far in the last year…all of this is great!❤️

    I absolutely love your channel. It’s where I find authenticity & good horsemanship. You have always been nothing but genuine with us. The reason you are so good, is BECAUSE you problem solve, your flexible/open minded and you always put the horse first.

    Relationship before horsemanship- is something I’m learning about too.
    You have nothing to prove to anyone, Sam.
    What you’re doing for her will help her go so far!
    ❤️
    Be proud.

    I really don’t understand how you are able to stay on top of all of your programs/clinics/groups AND train a mustang, at her own pace, all at the same time!! I read your first magazine issue, and it was so encouraging and helpful to me! Thank you so much for sharing everything with us, including the not so good moments. I believe those are extremely important for everyone to see so that we can learn that it’s part of training horses (and everything else), and that we can’t expect to succeed in something without having those low moments. But again, thank you so much for everything you do!!! I love all your videos and look forward to watching each and every one! You got it with Kiwi. 😉 She seems like a very sweet horse. ❤️

    The fact that this is the first regression you’ve experienced is a testament to your horsemanship. You’re a great trainer Sam. Sometimes they go backwards. Every once in a while you just get one that decides to test how you’re feeling now and then. It’s normal and you’ll work through it together. Love your videos and your attitude. If you ever need a place to put up near Lamar, CO for the night just holler!

    I feel this video on a whole different level, kiwi reminds me so much of my mare. Super talented but has to go a very slow pace and I focus a lot on relaxation. She was in a terrible situation with over 200 horses where they were left to starve for years. She was completely feral, I got her from a lovely rescue green broke(had her for about a yr) and she had a big set back like kiwi that’s made me look at things from a perspective of relaxation and enjoyment. And honestly something that has helped me so much in my training especially with super sensitive horses are animal communicators/ psychics. I know not everyone believes in that sort of thing but the real ones offer such amazing insight into what the horses are feeling it’s truly beautiful! But kiwi is such a good soul and I hope she finds the best person😇

  • @RideMyWay
    @RideMyWay 3 роки тому +12

    Thank you for being so honest about the situation! I’m so, so glad she ended up with you, so many people would return her, send her to live in a pasture for the rest of her life without individual attention, or give up on her all together and just push through the training and riding. She’s such an amazing horse who deserves an amazing life 🥰❤️

    kiwi is absolutely beautiful and radiates a gentleness about her in this video, I really appreciate your approach and techniques when not just training,but also just interacting with horses,what a pleasure to witness,trust and respect alongside consistent leadership is paramount and you certainly have it 🥰 And thank you for being transparent about the setbacks, we all have them whether it be ourselves,or our horses

    I’m glad your taking time and also making sure she isn’t in pain! When horses randomly become reactive it’s 99% of the time pain or something traumatic for her happened. I’m glad you are going slow!

    Aahhh, I've been waiting for this ever since you mentioned it. I can't imagine what it was like for you, not knowing how, or if, she would change. It crossed my mind that perhaps something happened where she wasn't going to tolerate being trained and would then need a wild horse sanctuary. When I hear of cases like that, there's not been a further explanation/description of the horses behavior that demonstrated it wasn't possible for domestic life, but I knew IF that was the case, that you would explain it in a way that we might understand. I'm overjoyed that is not the current situation and I'm eager to hear what the Veterinarian said because you sounded uplifted just talking about it. Thank you for what you do and sharing parts of your life, who you are, with us for bettering ourselves and horses!

    Shes quite pretty. Liked her when you picked her up. I have time to take it slow with her. I'm in Az. She might be a better idea for me than a totally untouched one. The question is she a regular adoption fee or auction bid ? I'd be willing to bring her to board with someone you know or can check out for the initial transition and to have for whatever time period is appropriate. There are a few Gals in Mesa I could reach out to to see if they have an opening.

    So glad to hear the update. I am looking forward to what the chiropractor/vet had to say. I just had to do the same thing with a horse I am training and I would not ride her until it was all settled with a chiropractor who also is a vet. I know she will find a great home. That's so hard to be going so good with training, and then having such a crazy setback. But its been fun watching and learning beside you and Kiwi during your Liberty Clinic! My mustang had a huge bump in the road when the trainer we sent him to (to get tip- trained) didn't do anything to help him, (Teaching him to fear humans, being aggressive to the poor little boy, and such) So when I took him home, I started re-watching all your mustang videos, so I could try to help my little Blaze back on track. I love Kiwi so much, and she kind of reminds me of my old mustang, so I've been very interested in her progress. And I'm just glad you got her, you have been doing great with her!!

    I had a similar setback with the gelding I have had for 17 years. I learned to understand him as a introvert who was easily stressed but didn't show it until he was overwhelmed -- then he would either buck or just shut down and lay down. He also seems very sensitive to changes in routine or stable mates. Anyway, he lost a stable mate recently and is alone on our farm. What would be involved in adopting Kiwi if you decide to let her go?

    Another thing you might want to try is an animal communicator that has really good word of mouth...even if it is physical which does sound like, they can help pinpoint the issue...
    Also, if you are in lyme disease country....I once had a pony start spooking at really off the wall things like his feed bucket...turned out his lyme numbers were very, very high....just a good thing to know about and check if they aren't acting normal.

    Wow. Live and learn. Ever wonder about the saddle? Horses backs change as they are ridden, so what worked before may not work today. Pads as well. I’ve seen well broke, ridden for years, horses react to saddle fit like that and worse. Flip, pull back, run back and fall. Changed the saddle and all was well. Crazy. IDK. just something else to look at. She seems quite content. Wonder what went on where you left her?

    My mustang did this, and continues to have random setbacks. It usually coincides with temp changes and changes in hay. Mustangs are super efficient at using not much food into energy. If my barn gets richer hay, I know he’s in for some more ground work. Also, he’s a completely different horse in winter vs summer. He’s in work 5-6 days a week with daily turnout and still has some energy to spare some days. He’s been more work than my ottb.

Do have someone who can ride her and out her thru movements so you can stand back and just watch her body? Nose to tail.... back down to feet? You have had her long enuf you maybe able to see something.

    I’m super interested in her. I have basic liberty skills and am actively looking for a mustang mare. I live in California. How do I get in further touch with you?

      I’m more than willing to keep her in training for awhile longer once you have completed your makeover if you continue with it.

    I'm listening and wondering why you wouldn't have had a vet examine her First thing, maybe blood work, eye exam. If a spider or bee ended up deep in the ear it seems that could really mess up any horse /animal?

    Oooh is she pregnant...? lol that’d be fun. Can you explain a little bit why you can’t keep her past the 120 days? Can she not be TIPd out

    • @SamVanFleet
      @SamVanFleet  3 роки тому

      No she’s not pregnant

      I can’t keep her past 120 days because I don’t have a facility. I sign up for these makeovers knowing I’ll be able to have them for 100-120 days.

    My mare rides fine at home but when I go out trail riding with other people she bucks me like a bronc. Please help me why she does this she is a great horse except for that it hurts me and it’s embarrassing

    is she used to not seeing you for days maybe she has separation anxiety bc your her only comfort since she has been out of the wild

      @SamVanFleet  3 роки тому +2

      No, she also has my horse Lynx with her and that wouldn't be a long term lasting effect. All signs point to physical

      She’s adorable but must be super sensitive. And bonded to you.
