The sad thing is, hate crimes like this happen all the time in real life. The writers wanted you to feel heartbroken to remind you of it.

I wasn't shocked when he got attacked. Because I thought oh he will be ok and be in the hospital. But then his dead look and all the blood, I was like "NO!!!". What sucks is he couldn't die in his bf arms or be there during his passing. That is so messed up. I know the message needed to be put out there, but I wish it wasn't just so blunt like ripping a page out of a book and crumpling it.
Though Jerome wasn't there, I'm glad the rabbi was there holding him so he wasn't alone.

The writers really sucked on this very important episode. It’s a very good idea that it’s the last season. I have an autistic son and have loved this program until this episode. 😊
@@donnadeardorff4995ditto. I thought it was unnecessarily cruel that he doesn't get a happy ending as the only regular gay character in the show.
But then I found out he's engaged to Ben Platt. Both of them were in the Broadway production of "Dear Evan Hansen" as the main character. They've been wanting to get married but "The Good Doctor" has kept Noah up in Vancouver for filming. So at least the actor will get his happy ending with his partner.

Writers said "Life doesn't always have happy endings". Makes me annoyed. The issue isn't that there wasn't a happy ending, the issue is that it was incredibly unsatisfying. His death was just as pointless as a death with him simply tripping and dying.

life does not give out happy endings. people are killed everyday. you people need a reality check. i am jewish and I am greatful for this episode. antisemitism became so fashionable again latley and I am glad they did not soften it up or similar. Because life and antisemits dont soften up for us either before killing us.
I did not expect him to die. That was crazy. I thought he was just knocked out till i seen his eyes. I had to google "is asher dead" cause i couldnt beleive it. Out of no where. Just dont expect a major character to be killed off like that.

I really liked his character and he is an excellent actor. It was very sad for many reasons and surprising. I wish this show would have continued. I don’t watch many shows but this one I looked forward to every Tuesday. I don’t know why they are canceling it. I read somewhere that Freddy Highmore was willing to continue the show. It’s a shame so many shows on tv are just stupid or not interesting. I will really miss this one .

So incredibly sad but as sad as it is, its even more important that they made the decision to write this into the show. Hate crimes happen all the time. Most people brush it off and think "it doesnt affect me" or "hate crimes are fake" but the reality is it HAPPENS and the result is heartbreaking. Writing this into a show and using a likable character allows viewers to connect with this issue on a personal level, hopefully keeping themselves/others in line to prevent hate crimes as much as possible.
Car accidents happen all the time, doesn't mean that they should kill one of the most important characters in the show just to show that it happens in real life, this was just shit writing and trying to get people to watch the rest of this shitshow to see the aftermath with a dumb "social" excuse.
No one is denying it happens. But still no reason to kill him off.
This is too political. There isn't antisemitism as it was in world War II. IMO This is more divisive than anything. I have friends that are jews I don't see people committing hate crimes, it's just hard to believe at this point.

I was mad and heartbroken for Asher because I would not imagine if my ex which is Jewish too would beat beaten to death by two gangsters of hate. Crimes like these should get the death penalty from not respecting religious beliefs resulted in a felony of vandalism and manslaughter. I love Jewish people❤ if it wasn’t for my ex, I would not met him in the first place.
I loved the storytelling and the attention to current events from this episode. It made Wolke one of the most tragic characters in TV history.

Wolke spent his entire run of the series railing against his Judaism, mere seconds after he finally accepts himself and starts to like himself, done. It was almost as heart wrenching as Opie dying on Sons of Anarchy which will always be a TV death that haunts me.
I’m shocked and hurt accidentally found out beforehand just didn’t know how he would go. The last 4 minutes of the episode ripped my heart out of my chest
They could have got Melendez transfered somewhere, but killed him.
they could have got Asher married to Jerome and then phase him out, but killed him as well.

I reached this episode today and this really caught me off guard...I was spoilt to melendez's death a while ago, then I saw the episode and it was still devastating, but this I really wasnt expecting...he was about to get married, like damn, I liked him ♡ he shall be missed!
After him being a main character for more than half the show to him being killed off in the most stupid way is just devastating
A bit like Melendez who ignored his wound..

Just when he started becoming a bit likeable.
Lesson to be learned here: Always call the cops, never leave your vehicle and never threaten a violent criminal unless you're armed, trained and 10000% sure you can take them out.

Melendez got killed when he just realized Claire loved him. Then Claire went away cutting off that amazing friendship with Shaun. Later on Asher arrives and makes season 4-6 more likeable for me (after I gave this show a chance) and yeah he killed Asher☹️. Ohhh forgot to mention about Glassy💔

Asher was one of my favorites...I take a break from the show b/c I didn't love the first couple of episodes of season 7 and THIS happens? I get that the writers sprinkle in real-world events/issues to make the show more impactful but they don't have to kill off the most innocent resident😭😭

When that one bad guy was following Asher, I became worried when I didn't see the other and rightfully so because he popped out of nowhere and just whacked him on the back of the head 😢

You can acknowledge the hate crime and how horrible it is, you can feel sad at the loss and have sympathy for Jewish people everywhere facing antisemitism, and also have sympathy for Palestinians and all who are suffering in Gaza. It doesn't have to be one or the other. And it doesn't have to be political. I don't think the writers were trying to get anyone to take a specific political stance - just to be aware of the reality of antisemitism and hate crimes in general.
