  • We receive hundreds of comments every week about periodontal disease! Everything from gum disease treatment options, to gum recession causes, cures for bleeding gums and the best periodontal techniques and treatments available to date.
    Dr. Joseph Nemeth is a #Periodontist in Southfield, Michigan and in this video, he picked a few common questions from our UA-cam comments to respond to.
    First, Kathy Rollings asks about the #PinholeSurgicalTechnique ;
    "How long does it take for the Pinhole Technique to work from start to finish, and how many times has Dr. #Nemeth done the Pinhole Surgical Technique?"
    Next, Joex Ink asks about #LANAP ;
    "Does the LANAP protocol actually make class 1 or class 2 mobile teeth stronger like what the doctors and patient testimonials are claiming? I know it's very successful with making the gums healthy again, but what about the mobile teeth?"
    Then, AA wonders about #BleedingGums ;
    "What if a person hasn't flossed their entire lives and started flossing recently, wouldn't their gums start bleeding and after a few days of regular flossing the bleeding would stop?"
    S M wants to know if they have a #ToothAbscess ;
    "I did an x-ray on one of my bottom molars and there is a black shadow between the bottom tooth, like in between the two bones of the tooth, is this an abscess? It also hurts sometimes when I bite."
    Myrasins1 asks about the Pinhole Technique ;
    "What is the average cost of this procedure? I'm assuming it's not covered by insurance."
    Lastly, Jay Bee asks about #BlackTriangles ;
    "Why can't you just add some bonding material to help cosmetically hide them and/or to prevent food from getting stuck in them?"
    #DrJosephNemeth loves answering questions and helping patients! So, if you have a question of your own, please feel free to ask and we will answer it for you. We may even feature your comment in a future video!
    Thanks for watching, and have a great day!

    Hello Dr,
    Please let me know if due to hard brushing gum receded little bit. For that do I need to go for surgery or not??
    I had checked up by Dr and he was saying that there are creators in the gum. So for 2 teeth he suggested filling and for others he is saying that do not for any treatment.. Could you please help on this??

    • @josephrnemeth
      @josephrnemeth  4 роки тому +17

      Hello Jyoti, it really depends on your individual circumstances. It would be hard for me to recommend a treatment for you without seeing your teeth. What I can say is that gums do not grow back on their own, but you will benefit from stopping or slowing the progression of gum recession.
      Stop using hard bristle toothbrushes, only use 3 fingers when brushing your teeth, also practice good oral hygiene and you will notice a difference in the progression of the gum recession. If these teeth start to look longer, or if they start to feel sensitive or loose, then I would recommend you look into the Pinhole Technique.
      I hope this helps!

      Joseph R Nemeth DDS & Associates Dr, my gums have been bleeding for many years since teenage. I’m in my 30s now. My bleeding used to be really bad. It used to be every day when I brush. Some days I used to bleed randomly even not brushing. Whom do I have to see regarding this? My dentists just don’t say anything. I have mentioned it to them. I do brush my teeth every day and floss. I’m not sure where I am doing wrong.

It was quite painful as the fragments made their way to the surface. This was.not related to any tooth extraction because I had my wisdom teeth removed over 20 years ago. I have heard that certain medications or smoking can cause them? It is also possible I might have brushed too hard? I am hoping you might have an answer. I am a 36 yr old male. Thanks.

    Hi Dr. Nemeth, due to ill health and active autoimmune issues, I did loose some bone in my teeth, but they are much more secure again, but I still have severe gum recession with black triangles, both on top and bottom front teeth, but more severe on the bottom. The other teeth in my mouth are predominantly implants (some are upwards of 10 yrs old but still in very good condition, also as a result of autoimmune issues). The gum tissue surrounding my implants is much healthier than the tissue surrounding my own teeth, which can have something to do with the types of bacteria in the mouth. As I understand it, certain undesirable bacteria is more attracted to real teeth more so than to implants/crowns, which can lead to more gum recession. Do you and other fellow dentists that perform this pinhole procedure test for the different types of bacteria that can in some cases, contribute to gum recession, regardless of a clean diet and good hygiene. Thank you for taking the time to make this Q & A video.

      So should I just get dental implants instead of having all of my teeth being root canal with crowns? I’ve already had five root canals and two of them have failed so far. It’s $3000 per root canal it’s quite expensive and it seems like they may have a five year life span and then they fail. I think I have to go to Mexico to get the rest of the work done it’s just too expensive in United States 😞

      @doloresguertin9601 2 роки тому +1

      @@HH-gv8mx Hi HH, I can only advise based on my personal experience, but given that, the lesser of 2 evils is implants. I also know of several other people who have had root canals and shortly thereafter went for implants. The root canals were a nightmare for me. Mexico is an option too and I would consider that as well for my front teeth now, which I am needing to have replaced, but I will need bone grafts from my hip which complicates things with an extensive recovery period so I will probably stay in Canada to do that, but yes Mexico might be a good idea to save money.

    I got the LANAP treatment on ONE of my teeth because just that one spot was inflamed and a deep clean didn’t do anything. After getting LANAP it removed gum tissue and now I have a black triangle and I hate how it looks. I wouldn’t mind as much if it were a back tooth, but it is my front tooth, dead center where it is easily visible and now I’m self conscious about it. I wasn’t told it would give me this and now I have to look for ANOTHER procedure to cover the black triangle. My periodontist said I won’t grow back gum tissue. I’ve been doing research and some sites say LANAP grows back tissue some say it doesn’t. Can you answer that question? Also if that is the case that it won’t grow back, I kinda regret getting LANAP.

    Q is , dose this crown should be taken out and cleaned and reattached?

    • @user-yb6xn3ut7o
      @user-yb6xn3ut7o Рік тому

      If this is an older crown the black you see may be the metal part of the crown not coated by porcelain. As the gums recede this metal part of the crown becomes exposed and appears black. Sometimes a disease can bond over the metal eliminating the darkness. More likely you'll need a new crown. New crowns are not made by fusing porcelain to metal. Or you have black tartar accumulated at the margin of the crown that needs to be scaled off. Crowns are cemented to the tooth. The margins are sealed so plaque cannot get under a crown unless the tooth/root is decayed under the crown. Hope this helps.

      Use an electric toothbrush with a two minute timer and pressure sensor light. Floss after every meal. Get a water pik. Use it in addition to brushing and flossing. Make sure you set the dial to a 7 on your water pik for optimal effectiveness. Always use light pressure when brushing. Brush your gums as well as your teeth!

Dentist did it "knowing" that is was going to fail due to not having much bone left but didnt tell me about it until I seeing a periodontist and that's when she told me that it was going to fail due to no bone there.. Now my other 2 teeth on the side got lose. Now their telling me I have to extract them to and then do bone graft for implants..it was a waist of money for the 1st surgery. Should I still trust them? Can I save tooth #7 & #9 now although they are a little lose? They said I need bone in those 2 teeth and ofcourse for tooth # 8 that didnt work..what should I do? I need help

      Hello Mar Gon, I know this must be a very frustrating situation for you. Often times the answer is not black & white. Often times, bone grafting can be successful once the area is healed properly. It's likely that your first dentist did what was in your best interest. However, it never hurts to get a second opinion.

    My new insurance doesn't cover Pario Maintenance. This is the first time I've ever seen this so I didn't know I was even getting a different type of cleaning for the last 5 years. I get the difference that D1110 is for healthy gums and D4910 is for diseased gums. However no one can tell me the difference with the procedure itself. I had my deep cleaning in 2018 and after about a year I was back to normal cleanings, from what I could tell anyway. I haven't had my gums measured since 2018, no plaque buildup, bone loss, inflammation and never any type of numbing needed. Why am I still being charged for D4910

    • @user-yb6xn3ut7o
      @user-yb6xn3ut7o Рік тому

      D4910 perio maintenance is different than D1110 code in that with healthy gums there are no periodontal pockets (probe readings 1-3mm) therefore the DH scales deposits off of the teeth above the gumline only. Whereas with the periodontal maintenance procedure there are periodontal pockets (3+ mm) which requires scaling below the gumline to clean the roots of the teeth.

      How old is your doctor? LANAP has been FDA cleared for doing what it claims. You saw the radiographs-they're real. There's too many old, cynical doctors out there who aren't keeping up on the latest and the greatest. That being said, LANAP doesn't help everyone regrow bone but will help everyone arrest their disease. And for those who it does help, I just recently spoke to the office of Millennial technologies in Cerritos CA who made it and they told me it ranges from 20% to 40% more bone growth but never 100%. But that's HUGE! That can definitely save teeth.

    • @josephrnemeth

      The gum inflammation is caused by plaque and bacteria that gets lodged between the tooth and the gum. Removing the plaque would cause the inflammation to subside, but it will not cause the gums to stop receding. There are some precautions you can take to slow or stop receding gums. Check out this video I think it will really help you! Stay healthy. ua-cam.com/video/1ubYRrHMGpg/v-deo.html

So why is dental insurance allowed to be the same or close to the same as it was in the late 80’s when it became more widespread to have dental insurance? This on top of the fact that dental and dentist prices have risen by quadruple or more cost. How are the middle class supposed to be able to afford that?
