- Today we dive into Italian rock band Måneskin. "Honey (Are U Coming?)" is the new single! It was released on September 1, 2023 through Epic Records. The band is set to perform the tune at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards!

Honestly what i've learned about Måneskin is to trust them, cause the one thing that's been consistent since they were 16 is how smart and farsighted they are. They started out in italy with ballads and more radio-friendly songs (cause it's what works best here), they gained a lot of fans and attention to them and then..boom: Teatro d'ira vol.1. Nobody expected the success Zitti e buoni had, cause a song like that winning Sanremo was basically impossible. Then, after winning Eurovision too, beggin and I wanna be your slave started becoming viral all over the world. That was their opportunity to reach a whole different type and range of audience (for example you guys, who wouldn't have been able to know them if after winning Eurovision they had kept releasing italian music and didn't try to branch out with english). They decided to take the same exact approach they took in Italy when they started: try to become mainstream. Obviously an album and a year long success is not enough to reach the whole world, so in my opinion their mission is to reach their highest point in mainstream and then.. boom: italian rock music. And that would literally make a difference in music cause nobody has ever exported italian rock, and that would be possible only if they're able to reach a huge audience that would be interested in that italian album because they already love the group.
If you think about it this way it becomes a hundred times more fascinating and interesting cause you're kept on your toes waiting for THAT turn that, knowing Måneskin, it's gonna happen 100%, and in the meanwhile we just have to enjoy the ride.
I’m all on Dad’s side here. This song is not something millions of bands could do - it is an absolute gem of a modern rock song by any standards. Yes, it’s trying for radio and steaming success - does that really equate to lack of artistry? Don’t cage them in to being little known Italian artists, writing only authentic Italian lyrics - let them soar in international air.
That's more taking second place in the line than soaring. What songs brought them in the upper 5 ranking of the British Charts? Not this kind of songs.
@@lilise3965 Hi Lilise - I cordially disagree. Måneskin are flying very high with precisely this kind of song. They are at, or near the top of the rock genre in terms of streaming success (although we know this is only one metric), but are obviously trying for pop levels of fame, which they haven’t quite achieved yet.

Well the main point here is that they are just doing that since... 2021? What was the latest song with the 'original italian sound'? It was probably in Teatro d'Ira, in 2021. They released 20 songs after that and no song is comparable to any song in Teatro d'Ira.

Remember! They always write songs with their live shows in mind and this went down a bomb on Sunday in Hanover.

one way or another you both show passion for the band and that's great. I think I love them no matter what, they have something that no other bands have at the moment and I am enjoying the ride. I think we can expect pretty much anything from them, they are versatile, but let's also remember they are still 4 kids so who knows what the future holds. I think at the moment they are having fun with a more lighter approach to their music, but you can always find deeper stuff even in Rush like Il dono della vita or Gasoline etc.. Ciao
I think, when listening to it, one has to keep in mind that it is a promotional single... so it is normal for it to be radio-friendly. But you can be radio-friendly and still have quality.
Plus, they always said they want to be a mainstream band, even if they play rock. Given that, I think that songs like this one are good for them.
However, in their live show, they are playing also another new song "The Driver", which is even better and has different, more melancholic, vibes (even if it's a rock one).
If I were you, I'd listen to it too! I'm sure you both will like it!

I’m with dad too. Don’t get me wrong love their Italian songs especially Coraline but I think it’s great that they’re doing different things. They definitely are breaking boundaries & do not blend in with anyone!! I also saw them in concert & was amazed by their performance & crazy energy.

Is this a damn good song? Yes!
If you get a chance, listed to “The Driver.” It’s unreleased but debuted live a few days ago. Instant love.
That being said….they are trying to be international. Please stop trying to get them stuck with Italian songs. I love their Italian music, my most favorite songs are in Italian but they are young! They need to explore and find new sound. This is the only way they can move forward and really be knows not only in Italy. When people say they are missing their old sound, it’s like saying “I don’t want them to evolve, to become better and more known . I want them to be stuck in 2021 with same type of music forever..” It’s the same type of a sentiment.

La verdad es que ellos nunca han querido hacer canciones "italianas", nos empezaron a gustar con algo en lo que no creían. Ahora están haciendo justamente lo que quieren, no se puede decir que estas canciones sean malas porque no se ajusten a nuestra visión de ellos.🤷♀️ Yo creo que más que la canción te parezca buena o mala tu desaprobación es porque te decepciona que no sigan tocando lo mismo que te enamoró. Pero siguen siendo un grupo buenísimo, yo fui a verlos en Barcelona y el directo lo hacen suyo, tienen un carisma y una presencia escénica inigualable. Te aseguro que no son otra "banda más de rock".

I get it. But we should remember that their dream was to be mainstream. They were used to sing in english and "forced"to sing in Italian. They adore what they do and they just go with the flow enjoying the process.. discovering new producers and writers... they love that. Don't think they would let the market or money or fame change that .if they wanted to please people they just would have to stick yo italian and that's it. Agree with Dad. It shows how much they have matured as a band. This is tight, sharp -- these guys are destined for. greatness should they stick together. All that said, there is a power and excitement here. I have watched them through the whole X Factor and their progress is astonishing.
On dad’s side . Sorry but they absolutely have time . Most folks I have spoken to in uk still only vaguely remember them from Eurovision. Many Brits don’t have the patience to listen to music in other languages.I believe they will get much bigger and am happy they try different styles of music along the way 😊. Remember the Italian language songs on Rush have the lowest streams. What would you do?

I absolutely love the song. Let's not make the same album over & over. It's a solid rock song that no other group can do. His vocals are distinct so you know who it is right off the bat. I'm totally team dad.
After the release of their last album Rush, I was in a “pause mode” with them. This song woke me up again! Great song! Father side, sorry😅🤗

They always wrote in English, I think is a bit unfair to wanting them to do singles in Italian since they are international artists, their Italian songs are at the bottom of the charts.
Also is normal that Damiano doesn't write the same kind of lyrics he write in Italian, writing in your native language is different.
They will continue writing in Italian, they will just not make them singles (for now at least).
I don't see million of artists putting out this kind of music in the mainstream nowadays tbh hahahaha they are already ballsy to do this kind of music, wanting them to do it in Italian and stay relevant is a bit too much to ask to an early 20yo band imho
also they are always a banger live and with the exception of Teatro d'ira (that was, indeed, recorded live), all their live versions will always be better than the record and is something great no?❤

@@vpersiana I wouldn't underestimate the importance of spices, but they must be dosed very carefully.😁 Maneskin have grown up and it seems to me that they are doing well. But there are no exact formulas on the matter. I think even Damiano has learned that, in any case, many fans will always complain about something, sometimes with reason, often for things beyond any reality.

Father and Son... it's an old song, isn't it? Old and eternal. The son thinks like a part of the Italian fans (although mostly women) who miss the passionate and romantic Maneskins... the father, like me, sees the evolution and greater musical cohesion. Bearing in mind that from the 60s onwards there have certainly been "millions" of Italian rock bands of all kinds, of which at least 40/50 are rather exceptional, none of which really had a real international success, we can lay the foundations for a discussion. However, it cannot ignore the fact that it was at the beginning of their career that Maneskin were forced to give up a part of themselves, NOT NOW. And that, as proof of this, a strange (very strange) thing has just happened: they launched and recorded "Honey" but, at the same time, they presented another song live, completely different, which they didn't record. Before continuing the discussion, listen to "The driver" live in Hannover.
Indeed, 90% of their songs at the start of their career were in English, and then they were pushed by the Italian market to write in Italian, perfectly said as usual ❤

My take is to agree a little bit with both of you: I too prefer the Teatro d'ira's way but this is admittedly a good song.... if you're nearly a nobody in your 20s coming from Italy you don t refuse the suggestion and/or demands of the label which is making it big in the bigger music industry of the world especially because they want to make It big they want to be mainstream... since Eurovision they haven't slowed down if not for few days once in a while and now they're back on tour and only developing songs they had at draft stage but not creating anything new or inspiring because they cannot be indpired nobody can when living squeezed in a time spiral... in an interview a couple of months ago they admitted to have been too busy to the point they didn't have time to practice their instruments sometimes we forget how young the are they need to play a lot every day to get better and experiment and I imagine that's hard when you're pushed from nterviews to tv shows to gigs and so on they said they've understood they need to learn to say no... I think the kind of music we expect from them from a real old style rock band requires a more traditional and organic approach to.generate a good product where experiences and feelings of the artist transpire rather than the pop machine that generates bop after bop nowadays who are the product of sound manipulators ... these are 4 smart kids I'm sure they'll understand to make quality they need to slow down and their future production will surely be technically better and better on the orher hand I'm not sure they ever get back to their second album sound because they have inevitably changed their everyday life has dramatically changed and won't get back to that same simpler inspirational creative stage unless they jump off the circus for a while which seems unlikely... 😊

Anyone over 40 is used to hearing bands that are born outside the Mainstream and for one reason or another begin to become Mainstream. The Black album for many is the end of Metallica for many others is their beginning. In my opinion, the maneskins are attempting a different operation and that is to enter exactly the center (of an imaginary circle) which is the Mainstrem and then move outwards.
It is enough to see the abysmal difference between their records and their live shows but it is still too early before they have to consolidate and create a hard core and then they will also be able to afford to go back more to how they started. Sorry for google translate.

I don't understand how you can say this song has no originality, name one other song from a different band that is like this song. It is not my favorite Måneskin song by far, but it certainly is not cookie cutter like any other music out the right now. If you disagree, give me a comparison.
I do miss their Italian music, but I understand completely their desire to break in the international market and they just aren't going to do that with Italian ballads. Plus as Damiano has said, if you don't take chances with different sounds you never grow. I also disagree with your take that the songs on Rush are all the same. That is the most ridiculous statement i have heard about the album.
I get the guy, Teatro d'ira is another thing than Rush, but I think it's a moment that they're riding. After all Teatro d'ira Vol. II it was already in the drawer and apparently they have put it aside to ride the wave right now. True fans await the rest of Teatro d'ira, they know how to do it and they can do it

Факт, - Måneskin нужно быть на радио , петь "простые", но сильные песни, чтобы разная аудитория хотя бы раз услышала имя, с удовольствием послушала.
Проблема в том, будут ли люди, даже прослушав такую "чёткую " и эффектную песню, искать их альбомы, интересоваться концертами ?!

Yes, exactly the Bob Rock era of Metallica! Some time ago I wrote the same in the comments and I still think so. Maneskin will continue to write in Italian, but as always the singles will be in English. I would like to point out that Beggin and Honey could not be more different from each other! And it's not "American style," but British sound.
A new version of Rush is out today with some new song in it!
I think you will like them, cause even if they're in English, they sound like their italian songs (they have that intensity, passion, "drama").

You should let them experience something new for themselves , they cannot make whole album in Italian. However I agree with you on the emotional intensity and poetry in their Italian songs
I think they will always have their Italian signature type songs, but those will not be the global hits. For example, on Rush, there are three Italian songs, all of them really good. Even in the US, the Italian songs are fan favorites and we learn the Italian phrases to sing along. But these will not be the radio/streaming hits that you see on TV shows here. I just hope they keep performing their Italian songs for fans at concerts everywhere including the US.
Agree with dad, honestly they became famous because of their magic sound and brilliant stage presence, but their songs were veeery “basic”, this song is better in every way than everything they ever wrote.

Got to say I'm with Ty on this one. I love the band, and I can kind of see why they're doing what they're doing. I also know they've always wanted to write songs in English, and gave in a bit to make it in Italy. So I don't blame them. But personally I'm not interested in most of their new stuff, especially most of the singles (except The Loneliest). Mamma Mia, Supermodel and Gossip for example haven't made it to any of my playlists. From Rush my favourites in addition to The Loneliest are Mark Chapman and If not for you, neither of them unfortunately super popular, but the only ones I still listen to. This latest single isn't making it to my lists either, though there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not that exciting to me personally. All good practise though, and maybe the next album will again have some songs for me too.
Legendary would be to develop their English songs in vain with some of their best italian songs and even improve on that. That would be a great achievement. I feel it is possibile for them and they should truly aim that artistic realm.

This kind of sentiment puzzles me. I love their Italian songs, I love their new sound too. I don’t think one comes at the expense of the other. They are young, they absolutely should experiment and find new sound, but for some reason people want them to be stuck with the same type of music. It’s gonna get boring really quickly.

Ty is 100% on this. It’s a solid basic American rock song. Definitely a wonderful and talented band but far too much LA treatment that will evolve into your average song to rock out to that no one will be talking about in 5 years.

I absolutely do LOVE and APPRECIATE your reactions to the Maneskin's songs. As I have mixed feelings about this song I agree with you both, but I decidedly stand with the Son when he says: " I feel uninspired... I have never heard a less Italian song... What more do I want? I want Maneskin... because I know what they are capable of". To me it sounds like an excellent AI product. The more globalized song they have done so far. The Maneskin sound is there, but where is their early unique identity and potential for greatness? They've become top performers and instrumentalists, but artistic creativity is something else. They used to have it and deliver it in their songs.
They don't want to be an "Italian rock band". Now you sound like the Italians that wanted them to stay in the Italian cookie cutter. Let them grow and develop new sounds. If you don't like their new music, and don't want them to grow, just stay in the past with d'ira on loop.
