Thanks for the vid. It was very helpful. it almost worked on the1st try. I followed your instructions verbatim setting up duckdns, which caused me to have a problem, because not knowing the programing language, I didn't question your misspelling of "ssl_certifcate: /ssl/fullchain.pem. I just blindly copied it. After listening to a few other vids and checking the duckdns documentation tab, I found out it should have been "certificate" Aside from that 1 mistake everything else went great. Plus I found out you only had to use TCP - UDP isn't necessary.
i know im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Erik Royce thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Erik Royce HOLY **** IT ACTUALLY WORKED! I literally hacked my instagram password after ~ 45 minutes of using the site. Just had to pay 15$ but for sure worth the price =) Thank you so much, you really help me out !
Hubitat user here making the switch to HA purely because of HA's support of the IKEA Tradfri hub, great video, thanks. I'm a total noob when it comes to yamels etc and it's a steep learning curve. Hoping you continue the series because I've tried to install Node Red and HACS from other tutorials and they assume too much prior knowledge so I've failed so far.
Glad you found it useful! Welcome to HASSIO :) We just have a really quick NodeRed installation video on our channel, but definitely plan to do a lot more in depth NodeRed stuff here soon.
One note to other noobs setting up Duck DNS support in HA for the first time, my installation continued to fail until I set up the port forwarding rule so you may need to do that first.
This would require port forwarding samba ports from your gateway to whatever is running your home assistant. I’m curious to know what you’re use case for this would be? You should be able to access all config files via the web interface with the file editor plugin. I personally would not suggest doing this as Samba on home assistant may not be using any encryption for this connection, and if it is most likely not a strong encryption technique (just a warning). I would keep samba access only to internal network traffic.
Thanks for the tutorial. Am I correct that once this is set up you can no longer reach your Home Assistant instance using the local IP address and port number in a browser? Thanks
Well I added the extra http into to my yaml then checked it, then rebooted and that was that. Cannot access my device. With the .local a direct IP or the new duck dns url (with port forwarding)... I can see it’s listed as a device on my router but nothing else. Ideas?
Are you typing in front of everything. You should be able to reach homeassistant.local:8123 from inside your network if everything is configured correctly. Hope this helps!
@@BlueBotTech same here... If I add extra http in yaml, then HA is totally broken and is inpossible to reach HA inside my network... any ideas whats wrong when I go step by step like you in video?
So there are unfortunately many variables at play when dealing with duckdns. A good place to start would be to check the duckdns logs and make sure everything set up properly. Also check the duckdns page itself and see if your public IP has been registered there. I myself have even had issues with setting this up and it does sometimes take some tweaking. Let us know what you find in your logs!
i tried thiss with the duck dns and im totally shut out of my homeassistent :( followed every step but the duck dns doesnt work and i cant log in on the local way no more. (i have an odroid n2+) does anybody have an idea?
Jason here: When I followed Zach's guide I had the same issue. I have Verizon FiOS so my port forwarding was a bit different from Zach's Ubiquity network. I had to do some digging to get it setup correctly. I got it working by setting port forwarding to forward any from TCP/UDP port to destination port 443 for the IP of your HA server.
The server that you are running HA in needs to be on for it to function. This is why most people use a stand alone Raspberry pi that they just leave on running.
Not sure I understand, I believe what you’re looking for is the benefits of PiHole extended to your phone? If this is the case we could put together a video on how to do so by using a PiVPN connection to your PiHole.

Came here purely for the DuckDNS setup! Thank you, no one explained it like this :D
Glad we could help!
Nabu casa server is safe and fast setup at a cost
Yes, if you’re not into the setup, nabu casa is the way. We may try to do a video on the nabu casa set up.

That DuckDNS configuration in the configuration.yaml puts my HomeAssistant into Safe Mode
If you look at the pinned comment I misspelled certificate so that may be your issue

You actually should be able to, you will just need to make sure you type :8123. Now that you’re using duckdns the https is the key!
Nice video!
Thanks!

Dudes. Your case lights... Very distracting.
Interesting stuff, good luck with the channel.
