  • Hello I wanted to do a quick little overview of my sister’s chevy cobalt. This thing has had so many problems. It’s a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and I can say it has been one of the worst cars I have ever driven over the years. (Maybe Not) She is looking to get something new but I thought I should at least once get it on camera. So I hope you liked this chevy cobalt review!

I have a 2005 Cobalt with 198,000 miles on it. It still gets great gas mileage. I've liked it. Update: The Cobalt now has 219,000 miles

Nice to hear these things can be reliable. I'm considering pulling the trigger on buying a used '07 Cobalt with 117k. It's pretty much th only thing in my meager budget range that doesn't have 180k or more miles. I already have a HHR which is basically the same car and it's been reliable so far. Only thing I HATE about these cars is that there is no easy way to check the transmission fluid level.

Ok well that Cobalt looks nasty, used and abused. I also have a 08 Cobalt that I bought new, and have had no problems. Judging from how nasty that car looks, and how everything is falling apart, I will say it's only problem is...the owner.

Well said. He says it’s a piece of shit and cobalts are junk yet his sister beat the shit out of it and made it that way haha mine nice as hell and doesn’t have any magic dents. The seats never magically stained themselves. My door handle never just fell off on its own. My hazard button never just fell into the dash. Bahahahaha none of that stuff. Never magically dented the fender or door. Nothing. His sister abuses the crap out of her stuff apparently and he’s dumb enough to think it’s the cars fault and that cobalts are bad cars to buy and junk because his sister is an idiot. Must run in the family. Worst video I have ever seen in my life. He gives no reasons to why it’s a pos other than showing us stuff his sister did to mess it up and break stuff and stain stuff.

The failure of the front speakers is an actual design defect. Rain enters the door, and the door is designed to shed that water, but not before a few drops get to the speaker. The speakers fail, but you don't have to replace the wiring. One should back replacements with plastic.

I have a 2009 Cobalt LS and the only thing major I have had to do to it was replace the camshaft position sensor for cylinder 1 at 160,000 miles. She is now at almost 207,000 with original engine, transmission, etc. Never had an issue with it. Changed the oil on time, replaced tires, suspension, you name it. It was actually a rental car used by enterprise when it was brand new and I bought it from a dealer used. I've been driving it for my taxi job and it has been very reliable. First car I bought that hasn't failed me yet.

  • @chelseeea4110

My first car was a 2008 cobalt bought used for cheap with 150,000 miles on it. It’s currently over 200,000 miles and running perfectly fine with zero major fixes. It was reliable for a first car and a lot of young drivers here still have them today even with them not being made anymore. I have switched over to Honda but the car is still a reliable car sitting in my driveway/garage.

@@Itserikaale I bought the 2008 cobalt used, from a Chevy dealership back in 2014ish for around $6,400. In 2021 3,000 isn't a bad price, as long as your coworker 100% maintained it. Has a lower amount of miles for being an older car, and everything is in working condition. The one I bought is still being driven to and from work everyday, by a family member. Hasn't had any major expenses, other than general maintenance. There's always a risk in buying a used older car though, and I'm not a professional. If you're not sure I'd maybe have someone who knows cars go look at it with you.

To each their own. On my '08 cobalt, i've done all my own work, and it's running like a champ at 140K miles.
Change transmission fluid, trans filter, and fuel filter every 50K = $130*2 = $260.
Change oil, oil filter, and rotate tires every 3-5K = $20 each.
New tires every 35K miles = $400 per set.
    New battery every 4-5 years = $100ea.
Parts changed out at 130K miles:
Timing chain, balance chain, guides, and tensioners = $350.
Belt tensioner, crank sprocket pulley, shocks, struts, and sway bar links = $400.
Wire loom fell apart in the engine so I replaced that = 10$.
Two new door handles = $40.
Headlights and bulbs disintegrated at 125K = $125.
New tail light bulbs every 50K miles or so = $20*2sets = $40
If you do these things, you can keep a car running superb for a long time.
If you don't do these things, you car will give up on you.

  • @CT-Dana
    @CT-Dana 3 роки тому +1

The problems with the cobalt are the trans pan and oil pan sit lower than the subframe and may be damaged and there is the timing belt issue.
The engine would have to be raised and a skid plate added for the pans and as for the timing belt issue just maintain the belt like you would a belt and keep it lubricated by keeping up with oil at all times. The way it is set up the belt doesn't get as much lubrication as it should compared to other GM engines such as the 3800 which has oil pooled in the center. My cobalt has been very reliable, up until I accidentally drove it with an oil leak because my roommates's driveway put a hole in my oil pan 😂

My speakers went out in my coupe... When I took the doors apart, a whole bunch of water started leaking out. The door drained right into the speakers. I replaced them and water proofed the backsides with plastic... I'm pretty sure it's a common problem with Cobalts. I also have cracking interior door handles, water coming through the floor, interior plastic cracking and breaking off... All in an eight year old car that's treated pretty well.

I was going to dislike this video but decide to not hate. I have a '06 chevy cobalt coupe and although it has some problems it has been very reliable. Before I owned it, it was owned by 2 people, one was my ex wife. When I got it and took over payments. The condition of the vehicle was terrible. Parts missing, parts broken off, parts malfunctioning etc. Over time it doesnt matter what vehicle you have parts go bad especially if it isnt maintained properly. Now over a couple years of putting work into this vehicle...its almost back to top form. Looks and preforms almost new both inside and out. From the look of the condition of your sister car, looks like your sister took very very very poor care of her car. So thats not Chevy or GM fault...thats solely the owners fault.

Cobalts are decent cars man, the back end bounces because it needs new shocks, that's a maintenance thing. you have to do to all cars once in a while. The only flaw I found with the cobalts was water leaking down from the window seal and wrecking the front speakers. Other than that it's one of GM's toughest cars. They aren't flashy or fast, but mine got me from point a to point b every day with no issues. The differences is I take care of my car and your sister probably doesn't 😂😬

Chevy cobalts are hit or miss. You can get some extremely reliable ones like my 2007 LS couple, or you can get a piece of junk. Maintance plays a factor of course like any car. I've heard extremely good reviews of these cars and extremely bad ones. Overall, this car from my experience, is extremely reliable and one of the better Chevy dependable cars. Also the transmission plays a huge factor too. I've found that the manual transmission in these cars are typically alot more reliable than the automatics and much cheaper to maintain. The only thing I've replaced in my cobalt was a faulty fuel injector because this was causing my cobalt to run rich. Other than that, not 1 single problem and Im one of the most aggressive drivers you will come across. Also if you go online and look at most reviews on cobalts, almost all of them are nothing but good reviews.

I actually own my own shop, and have gone through many of these Cobalts..So when I say these cars are very reliable, as long as you keep up on the maintenance, and that they are just as good as any other car. You can take my word..
The car in this video was 8 years old at the time of making this video, and its "Traassshed".
It was clearly not taken care of "at all"..
Maybe take care of it. Don't abuse it like it clearly was, and fix it.. Then you won't have so many dents and filth to show, and complain about..
As far as the rest.. *DO THE MAINTENANCE*,.. I know it sounds like a crazy concept..
      But, it won't be broken..
And struts, don't last forever.. Js.

You just can't get in start the car up and hit the gas and never take care of it and expect the car to last forever but there's a whole lot of people to think the only thing a car takes is gas and that's it

Dude i have a 2008 pontiac G5 (exactly same car) and it is very reliable. I bought it from a old man with only 25000 kms in 6 yrs. I now have it for 4 yrs and no major problem except for brakes change recently and leaky gas cap that was causing engine light. Otherwise it’s a beautiful small car and is definitely more than point A to B !

Replace the front brake hoses after 50,000 miles. They collapse from thousands of brake pedal applications holding back the brake fluid causing premature pad wear.

This car is very reliable and very easy to do repairs on.
All of the complaints you presented were not as a result of the manufacturer, but due to the owner. This car is only a piece of shit because you did not take care of the car.

It's a crap car for sure, the purpose of a Cobalt is to use it as a beater car while you keep your nicer car preserved in the garage and only drive it on the weekends. As long it runs and gets her to point A to Point B then its done its job. Lets say I have a mid ranged Porsche in my garage if I drive it everyday the repair bills will bankrupt me. Better to buy a cheap Cobalt for under $2000 that you can use as a daily driver if you get 1 - 3 years of no problems and you only spent $2000 you got your moneys worth.

  • @sarahstenske4268

Cobalt parts are cheap garbage, people in the comments, stop lying to yourself. The car in the video may not have been treated well but they are not the only person who is complaining about this car. Lucky you, yours is a better year that has 200k+ miles, that doesn't mean everyone else treated their car like shit just because you got a good one. I'm a delivery driver and take mine in regularly and it doesn't even have 150k on it. The car is so bad and unreliable I'm practically PAYING TO WORK MY OWN JOB as a delivery driver.

But FYI, I’ve seen Chevy cobalts with 300,000 miles ( 481,000 km) and still running strong. Definitely an okay basic car. Toyota Matrix is a MUCH better car though.

I own a 2009 cobalt my car does the same bouncy thing when you hit a bump wanna know why it's because my suspension needs to be replaced I guarentee thTs what is wrong with that car also your sister hasn't kept up on the maintenance on the vehicle either from what I can see she pushed the hazard light button through the dash and someone has broken off the handle and she got something on the driver side actually name me a good reason why a cobalt is bad other than speed and give me a legitimate review

my 2005 does not have any problems and has never let me down (rarely) but the paint job went to hell so it is an embarrassment but that is not a big enough reason to trash it - I read early about the bad suspensions so I just never replaced it having seen comments where people do like half a dozen suspensions on it LOL - when the transmission goes I will just roll it into the ocean and buy a MONSTER TRUCK !

  • @mrbabs1594

Not sure why he said this was a joke in the comments section when you can tell he is pretty sincere about the cobalt being a POS. Just so you know; 2.2l engine by GM is on par with the old and always trusted and never fails 3.8l that was in the impalas and lesabers! Parts are extremely cheap for this car; for front struts and rear shocks your looking at $150 and takes less than 3 hours to put on yourself. My uncle has a 2009 Pontiac G5 which is the same as the cobalt just the Pontiac symbol. He bought it brand new and has over 240,000 miles on it and absolutely no problems except the common problem with the steering shaft needing to be replaced but that is just 4 bolts and its out. Not to sure what you are saying this car is a POS; your sister does not know how to take care of a car; border line looks like a meth heads car that one would see on a traffic stop.

babs look I’m not trying to be a jerk here but yeah, everyone knows these cars were the base of the base model economy cars.
I did this video I don’t even know how many years ago. My sister didn’t take care of her car and it was a POS. I literally made this video to show off how bad HER car was. I never meant to hurt everyone’s feelings if you own a Cobalt. Obviously if you take car of a car it will last, I’ve owned so many cars on my UA-cam channel I know how to take car of vehicles but I made this video to “make fun” of my sister for not taking care of HER car. So sure if you want to defend the G5/Cobalt then do it. At the end of the day their low end eco cars. 🙃

I have this car too, and it really is a piece of shit. I'm a mechanic and have worked on several cars over the past 20 years. He is completely right about this POS. Why can't Chevy just make a fucking car that is reliable????!!!???!?!?? Let's look at the Corolla, the 2005 Corolla I worth $3000 today, while my 2008 cobalt is worth just over $1000, maybe even less than that. I've spent so much damn money on this car just trying to keep it running on the road. Suspension is shit, fuel pump is shit, it's burning oil now, the AC condenser leaks and is not fixable unless you open up the whole dashboard, if the heater core goes out, you have to move the entire dash out of the way.......... The list goes on. I've replaced so many things on this car, I can consider this thing totalled next time it stalls. It's a damn melon of a car.
