Hi ALTER community! Alex and Bryce here, the directors of Carrie's Doing Great. Thank you so much for watching our film. We hoped you liked it and enjoyed the wild ride. We would love to answer any questions you have about the film. No matter what it is, just comment below and we'll get back to you! This is our first short writing and directing together and it was so much fun to make. We were lucky enough to work with an amazing cast and crew that helped bring this little film to life.
How did y'all come up with the idea? How was the cast picked? Was it fun making the film? Thanks for the great horror short. It really shocked me at the last part. I honestly thought that Carrie was going to finish her dream. ☺
Hi @@esahcaeeneiradgbo2464! - The initial idea came when we were brainstorming ideas for a small series of films and one of us imagined the scene at the mailbox where the mob is shouting "Jake, Jake, Jake". The idea being how creepy and in a way funny it would be to see a mob of people celebrating the mundane like we do our sports stars. - Funnily enough initially Carrie was going to be a guy (Gary) but we worked with Lauren on a music video and she was just such a great fit for the role we decided to work on the script with her and we think it was the best choice as she was amazing to work with and really became the character! - And it was great fun to make the film! As with all films there were highs and lows but in the end we're super excited to share our film to everyone. - And thank you for watching! We're really glad you enjoyed it :)
Society is like this a lot, telling people they can’t follow their dreams, and they have to do what society tells them this film strikes a chord, losing what makes you you is truly terrifying
@@kendallchristoun Oh yeah of course, because you really believe that capitalism isn't responsible of the same consequences ? Capitalism brainwash people into thinking that studying hard or working hard will always be rewarded. At least, on the paper, communism is meant to make all men and women equally wealthy. But as everything potentially good, humans just f*cked it up and made dictatorships out of a dream of equality. Not saying that communism is the answer, but a bit more of equality and support between citizens wouldn't hurt in our self-centered western societies.
This one hit home for me today. My son has told us he doesn’t want to continue with college and we’ve been so disappointed and frustrated but I guess he needs to follow his own path. Maybe I was meant to watch this today.
@@LadyDi0514 ... Sorry if I was insensitive. We had the same problem with our son when he was 15. Dropped out of school and got a job flipping burgers. Now he is working on a railway station which is far below his abilities, but it is what he wants to do and since he is already 26 we have no real influence any more. It is his life and all we can hope for is that he makes something of it whatever path he chooses.
This is true life horror. Society pushs you to be something you don't want to be all the time. If you don't resist, you just become one more robot without soul and part of the system. Btw, 80's mood is always welcome.
Great work! Perfectly showed the stigma artists go through in the society, where people, especially family members, look at their passion as something impractical & not a real job. Also showed how parents shutter their children's dreams to mold them into something they don't want to be just so they could show them off to other people.
jokenlovebot Parents want to live vicariously through their children. The mother was upset because she couldn't brag about her daughter---so it's all about her! "Oh, we just want the BEST for YOU!" Yeah, right.
My granddaughter is off to college today. She won an art scholarship. She is naturally gifted. She's extremely ambitious & we will support her. I've raised her since she was 13 months old. I'm super proud of her. She did this on her own. I will be crying all day. A mixture of happiness but a little sadness because I will miss her. 😪😪🥰🥰
Not all but most because they have been brainwashed as well and only want “the best for you” the problem is they can’t admit they have no idea what the best for you is ONLY YOU DO.
When parents arent supporting their children, shattered their dreams instead. Parents should have let their children choose what they want to be when they grow up, because at the end money isn't what's important. Passion and loving what you do will make you a great individual.
I admit, my sisters and mother tried this to me a lot of times, forcing me to take jobs being offered, jobs I don’t even like. They’re all ashamed of me that time because I’m taking college too long and they felt I am hopeless to graduate so mom started to say that before it’s too late, I should quit because they already spent too much for my tuition fees but the truth is, I lost motivation because it’s difficult getting money from them until they finally were fed up and forced me to quit school and get a job. What I did was, in order to afford tuition, I entered scholarship by working in the university, quit the job after a year to focus on my business and I graduated. They’re all proud of me now except mom. Pandemic stopped her to see me and my success. Wish me luck to convince her that being an entrepreneur is still a worth paying job.
This is by far one of the most relatable horror films I've seen. It is very common for creative people to be faced with a lack of support from family and those around them, especially if the career they are working towards does not provide immediate financial reward. Carrie's life itself was like a game. It was the equivalent of being stuck on one level and not being able to progress to the next. This was well-written. Good job 👍🏾
Sometimes the run-of-the-mill jobs don't stifle creativity, they make it possible to have the ability to afford to work on projects until they become something...
@@Pit_Lord As someone who is creative and artistic, I agree to disagree. 🙂 It would be great to be able to solely pursue creative ambitions and dreams with no need to worry about housing, food, and healthcare, but that isn't how most peoples' lives work.

I like Alter short films because they have stories to them, they're not just horrors with jump scares at the end. They manage to portray characters that are interesting and you root for them, they have a storyline, and they don't always end up with some demon jump scare at the end. I like how they often leave things up to your imagination. All within less than 20 minutes (usually). Many modern horror films can't manage that in 90 minutes, so it's brilliant Alter can do it in less time.
I'd love to see this as a full length feature with a more expanded backstory where she fights back and the town like literally crumbles into the earth at the end
