  • The tech behind Shimano’s flagship groupset, XTR, gradually trickles down to lower levels. We saw 12 speed XTR last year and now it is the turn of Shimano’s original groupset, XT, and the workhorse that is SLX, to gain an extra cog.

Neil and Blake decided the best way to familiarise themselves with the two new groupsets was to go for an epic ride; well, Neil did 😂 They check out the tech specs and the differences between the two.

Slx, because i dont have much money, but it would be really cool if you would compare the slx to the deore m6000 because it also has brakes and shifting bundle, vut its way more cheaper, and the choice of many jung people with a low budget

Let's quickly do a summary what shimano gave us with their 12 speed drivetrain.
-We've got two gears up front! Totally need that!
-Anyone want to put it on your bike? Now you need to replace brake levers and install new hub which is really hard to get.
-Want to get XTR rotors with double price of XT rotor? You know what is the difference? Just a black paint on fins! Everything else is the same
-New pad standard! Another things which is hard to get.
Now let's focus on things we didn't get...
-New bottom bracket standard... Why we can't pay more?
-Anyone heard of cartridge bearings? They are really cool and need almost no maintaince. Guess what! Shimano is still using ball bearings so you need service it every month! Great huh? We love working on our bikes!
-Did you see SRAM AXS? Electric shifting sounds cool but nope.. ...shimano won't help you with 12 speed electronic drivetrain
In summary shimano doesn't care about making something good that isn't 3 years behind SRAM,they just want $$$

IMO both are great, if you're not racing XC, SLX is the best bang for your buck! Cool to see the 12 speed from shimano in SLX, Great clip GMBN!

For me logical investment steps from Deore up is Deore-XT, XTR I iwll probably never be able to buy, unless I tumble up on it. The SLX step is always like ok I could buy it, but why not wait till I can get XT. And that is what happened...before I take a system upward...I guess. SLX I had on a road bike, and it was all too tidy, all too, fragile feeling, and far too above class, I could resist, but why when I can sell it for more, so I sold it for more, and took XT? It's that simple... And now I am back to Deore on a new bike, and move, will be somewhere up again, but why SLX, I still don't really know why :D But thank you for your viewpoints! It's helped...to realize SLX exists. :D

Pro tip for trekking: use slx rd 7120 with ultegra r8000 36 46 crankarm and 11 speed 11 46 cassette witg xt rapid fire m8000. With xt 11 speed you can't use 2x46 but with slx 12 7120 you can.

  • @davidzimmerman7770
    @davidzimmerman7770 5 років тому

Xt cassettes are a lot stronger because they are riveted together. I've tacoed two of the SLX while climbing. No I was not shifting at the time. XT just eventually wear out. That's just been my experience.

I think the message from this is that XTR is supergood for racers, XT is a bit less supergood but will be very popular for people who are serious mtb types and SLX is a work horse. Other than that the only thing I learned from this is that I need to go and ride Exmoor.

It comes first. This habit originates from a time when the ceramic of the cups were not that heat resistent and would explode due to the heat shock when putting in the tea first. To avoid this milk is put in first to cool down the hot tea when entering the cup.
