What? This is super disorganized reseller keeps rummaging though Ryan’s stuff and distracting him while he’s trying to speak and interrupting him every time Ryan gets into a good story or talking about his business philosophy’s resellers like oh shit street sharks, or not really paying attention and picking through Ryan’s back room stuff …..should of done a interview and then a tour with just loose talking

With how it's all grown, it's crazy that I used to go to Ryan's house back when he just had a website, and his basement was his warehouse. He has a PROFOUND autograph collection - and we share a fascination with WWII. Man, I was such a nuisance to him and his family with taking such a ridiculous amount of time with picking out which items I'm gonna get...and he was over-the-top gracious with me being a burden while his family is upstairs ready to eat dinner.
I only live 30 minutes away, but have only been to his current store once, because I had a bad car accident years ago (had a mild stroke), and didn't have collision insurance. If I still had a car, you bet your sweet ass I'd be milling around his store, basking in its glory on a weekly. It's like a toy museum...but everything is for sale. Ryan is *_genuinely_* a really good guy.

I run a toy booth and several online shops. All toys, for many years now. Getting inventory is HARD once you become successful. Ramping up was easy, growing past a certain spot is hard because people buy more than you can supply. This guy has mastered that by being in a spot people can find, which I envy. Also this store is beautifully displayed, something I try to do myself personally and people do comment on it. I'd love to open a shop myself, geared more towards toys for girls and women, a market that does exist by gets largely ignored because male collectors tend to be more plentiful. IMO. Owing the building is key as well as retail experience.

    • @adamwest3266

@@ChaseHenderson-kn2jr women change what they spend money on as they grow older but many of them never get rid of their toys to begin with and save them for their children and grandchildren rather than sell them. That inventory also does not justify the costs and shelf space.

One of the big things I really appreciate about this man is the fact that he is honest and fair with his customers. The world needs more honest people. 👍

Ryan's passion, despite the hardship and doubters (especially from family), he is motivated to live what he loves. I hope to one day travel to Toy Federation, meet him, buy something from the backroom. That back room is crazy, but he has a vision that he sees to be great; inventory is a great problem to have as a seller, it's the avenues to take to sell them is difficult with limited time and money. From the moment I entered Toy Federation, I was transported back to my childhood. Ryan and his team are super nice and very knowledgeable about their product. I honestly could’ve spent my entire bank account on the vintage Star Wars, Transformers, and so much more. I would definitely make a trip to the Toy Federation and put it on your bucket list. Can’t wait to go back.

Yes indeed! It's a shame that I only live half an hour from his store, but not having a car anymore makes it virtually impossible for me to make it out there. I've only been to his current store once, but if I have the means, you bet I'd be going there every week. Even if you leave with not buying something, the experience alone is well worth the time and gas money. And here I am pointing out an hour round trips worth of gas money, but ppl travel a day or two to make it there.

Excellent video!!! I visited the store this past summer, and honestly, the owner and whole crew are really nice people. Super fair prices and also had the chance to make an offer which other stores don't accept offers at all. I know some people have criticized them due to the low prices they pay to the customers that go to the store to sell them vintage figures, but that's how the business works around a Toy/collectibles store. People think those businesses should pay them what they might seem on eBay or Toy shows.

This is ridiculous. I love the diverse mindset of shop owners and am glad to see he hired a couple people to sell on Ebay. I'm of the mindset of having as little backstock/unlisted inventory as possible so this would be an absolute nightmare. On the flipside, an absolute goldmine if it he can operate those backrooms down to one or two and run an Ebay business in the back, shop in the front. Best of luck and nice interview!

These videos are so great. I'm a big fan of the Toy Federation youtube channel because I learn so much about both collecting and reselling. And Ryan's very right when he says the competition for new products is so fierce now, because all of the brands and manufacturers sell their products online now, and many times for *under* wholesale price. So if I'm a professional retailer and pay rent, business taxes, etc and buy products wholesale, how am I supposed to compete with an online retailer that's selling the product for less than wholesale? People talk shit about "resellers" and think everything is selling a $1 item for a massive profit. If everything I sold was bought wholesale or for market price, I'd lose money every day of the week.

He’s 100% correct, it doesn’t matter where you are, toy people find you. I search in depth for trading card shops, or any shops that have vintage Pokémon cards. Would’ve never found the places if I didn’t dig for them.

You say you need more options . You could always do booths in antique malls and flea markets . Why not ? Unless you weren’t making enough sales - but , at least from my experience , it has been 100 times better than expected . I’m one of the only Xbox specialists out there . My advice would be to do your thing . Stick with whatever that is and expand with 100 buck booths . The market is infinite if you know how to do it & all you have to do is restock every week or so . The special number is 13% . That’s the normal 10% plus the probable 3% card fee . If whatever you’re doing is doing less than 13% then you’re doing something wrong man . Anything more than that 13% is worth doing .

Oh, shoot! I completely forgot about Record Breakers! Saw the tracks on the shelf after the Stompers box stood out immediately.

I don't collect toys, but I love watching this. The collector mentality is what I relate to.

What an excellent interview. And tour. I went there for the first time this year traveling through. And they were kind and more than fair in their trade with me and I picked up a few grails.

Been watching Toy Federation for awhile now, lots of notsalgia every time a watch and I also love the goofy and awkward moments. He loves what he does for a living and you can see it every time someone brings in what looks like junk.
