3 weeks out from my first half distance IM and 31 weeks out from my first full distance, I needed to watch this video. I’m giving it everything in training and hope that come race day I enjoy the experience whilst finishing the race. Thanks for this video and your others ones they really are a blessing! 🙌🏾
This video was perfectly timed before my first full IM in Tallinn this weekend. Originally I had some time goal in mind. But it turned out too optimistic and your video helped me to manage to cross the finish line. I got a lot of experience and knowledge to consider before my next event. Keep up the good work 🤛
Hey Alan, thank you for sharing your experience and great job on your first full IM! And yes, as you say now you have a lot of extra knowledge that is incredibly valuable for the next one 👍👍
Hi Patrick, thanks for your advice, completely right and I even think this advice is even applicable for each Ironman to not be limited by time goal but better by your performance at that specific day during these specific conditions 😊
I separated my shoulder 8 weeks before Ironman Copenhagen this year. My doctor told me he believed I could do it. H said wait as long as you can before swimming, I didn't swim the whole distance until 2 weeks before the race. I lost about a month of training in the most important block of it all. At my last visit the doctor said, "What time are you going for?" I started to answer with some numbers and excuses and he said, "You might want to change that to 'I want to finish'." Finish I did and happy I was with the time I got.
Great job bro 👏 First one is all about that finish line - after that so many things become more clear about what we need to work on, and how much more potential improvements we can make Congratulations on your finish!!
Hi Patrick. I am an avid follower of your content from india. Great job. Am preparing for a half marathon on 20 October and can only do 3 runs/week and 2-3 indoor bike sessions / week. How do u suggest I structure my sessions and maximise this to get max aerobic development and improve on my 1:57 half marathon PB. Really looking forward to your take. Thanks
Hi! The first thing I would do is identify exactly what your target race pace needs to be to hit your goal, and make sure you are training at the specific pace during the long run so you feel what it’s like to handle that pace. Do some sessions to see at the moment for how long you can hold that pace continuously, in order to understand how much you need to improve to be able to hold it for 21.1km. Next, to improve the pace I would do as much intensity as you can handle (it’s the same if you do it on the bike or on the run). Personally I would do one hard up hill run (shorter intervals) Tuesday, 1 really hard tempo/threshold run thirsday, and one long run on the weekend with some race intensity sections in it. For the bike, I would do the same thing but I would make sure I go ALL OUT, mega hard on the interval session, do one tempo session, and if you can fit it in a long ride (even with not much intensity) on the weekend. Cheers and let us know how it goes!
I just signed up to my first ironman (Nice 2025) so this video is well timed. Being from an ultra running background I always run by my perceived exertion and not by pace. Glad to hear that will also work for my first ironman.
Last week did my first Ironman. Never cycled, never swam, never did i run before. But had an very good stamina due my sport: Motocross. Set myself a goal. Train for 6 months and finish in Frankfurt within 12 hours. Did it in 11:46:52 ❤🎉 And was at work three days later (physical demanding, construction work) without sore muscles or something😊 Two days after the race was little bit of limping but quickly went away My goals: Swim 1:20 (became 1:21:xx) Get on the bike around 1:30:00 (became 1:29:xx) Get of the bike around 7:00:00 (became 7:00:xx) Run the marathon 4:40:00 (became 3:39:50) No words for how my first race went The way back to the hotel i almost collapsed, body couldnt go anymore. So gave it my all in my opinion.
I don’t even have a time goal for my upcoming Ironman 70.3 😁! Finishing is king 🤴
💯💯💯
