Get More with United and AA Credit Cards | Ditch Your Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards

- Delta has made some disappointing changes to its SkyMiles programs. No longer will just flying with Delta get you status. Now, you must pay to play. Starting in 2024, Delta will only look at your Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) to see if you qualify for status. This means it’s going to get expensive to hit any delta status. Yikes. So today, let’s take a look at United and American Airlines Credit cards.

Quick correction. The United Club card has an annual fee of $525
It almost looks like delta wants to kick all the poor people to UA and AA, and become an ultra luxury airlines.
Delta is trying to market itself as a premium airline so their recent changes makes sense. Limiting access is a good idea honestly. I work at the airport and those clubs get packed, especially when there are delays. You have a lot of premium passengers in there, like those who purchased First and Business class tickets, mixed in with a whole lot more people who only pay a few hundred dollars a year to get access...and some who don't pay anything at all. AA just changed their access as well with the Cit Exec card, cutting allowed authorized users dramatically. Great video as always Matt, thank you!
They don’t make sense. They are not Emirates or Singapore airlines.
This may be Delta’s “Bud Light” moment. Can’t wait to see what, if anything changes in their walk-back. We’ve both been Platinum Medallion AND Million Milers for years but have applied to Jet Blue for their Status Equivalence program. I know so many here in ATL planning on reciprocating the finger delt by Delta since they don’t seem to have reciprocated our loyalty.
Hahaha Delta's "Bud Light" moment. That made me laugh! Yes I'm curious to see what changes they will make.
it is actually funny to see Delta now back tracking after the backlash of their new policies. I love how other companies like Alaska airlines are taking advantage of this
It is nice to see delta admitting they went to far and are working on some changes. Hopefully they are actually good changes.
I wish Alaska had as many routes in the Midwest and East Coast as they do in the PNW.
The only reason they are getting crowded now are because of COVID-era rules allowing rollover of status. If they just let the people who kept status through COVID phase out organically, it would honestly solve a lot of the problems
Good stuff and congrats on the continued channel growth.
Thank you for the support!
Good to know about the Amex Plat change(s). might go with United Quest Card. Thanks for the tip.
You’re welcome. The guest is a great keeper card!
This is just another example of why most people shouldn’t be loyal to one airline. Get a chase or a American Express trifecta then transfer points to travel partners based upon your specific trip itinerary and current offers. Lounge access or not, most will come out ahead moneywise.
Agreed. I used to be all for Delta but it’s just not worth it anymore.
Great video and overview of the United and AA cards!
The United Club Infinite’s annual fee is actually $525. But the United Club Business has the $450 annual fee. I have the personal Club and it has served me well!
I have a Delta Blue (formerly Gold) that was my first Amex card, but I’m considering canceling it. I haven’t flown Delta since before the pandemic and I currently have no plans to fly with them anytime soon. I used nearly all of my SkyMiles to book flights for relatives and I have just over 100 SkyMiles now (basically nothing).
Oh you’re right. Thanks for catching that!
I currently have the SkyMiles Platinum and Reserve and I’m thinking about cancelling the SkyMiles Platinum. I was considering the United Club card. I’m glad to see that it’s serving you well!
Looks like I’m canceling my delta reserve card. Judging by this video I think united is the airline to go with. My airport isn’t an isn’t a home one to any airline so.
United cards are a good option!
Thanks for the video. I’ve been pretty pleased with my Delta experience since COVID but with their changes I’m leaning heavily towards moving to AA towards the end of 2024. I seriously doubt that Delta will walk back the changes in any meaningful way for me. I’ve flown 60+ Delta segments so far this year.
Yes, I’m not convinced the changes from delta will make much difference. In a perfect world, I would love to see them lower the MQD requirements and add more SkyClub visits to the Reserve card. Maybe 20 or 25 a year.
What about Barclay's Aviator card? (Esp since you can't transfer points to AA)
That card is another option. It's similar to the Platinum Select Card.
I dont mind the mainline Platium card being cut down. I think 10 would be more acceptable. As for the Delta SkyMiles Reserve being cut to ten? That is what upsets me. You can easily burn 4 on one trip. And the fine print saying they can take another visit if there are operational delays and you come back? Excuse me? That aspect well, I am going to use 2024 to the fullest. Then have 16 visits and see how that does me. I may start booking tighter connections instead of 2+ hour ones like I tend to do. But they also have a year to retract. So we shall see.
It's hard to see all the changes that Delta is making. I'm hoping other airlines don't follow in their footsteps
They have really killed the incentive to carry the Amex Reserve. High fee, limited visits, meager coupon book to recoup fee, poor multipliers that only earn delta miles. I’ve let Delta and Amex know that they’ve gone too far.
@@Agent.R. not sure what coupon book vibe you get from the Delta Reserve card. I plan to keep mine for Companion Certificate and see what changes they finalize for 2025.
Very informative video. I appreciate the in depth overview of the United and American card benefits. I just hope United and American don't follow what Delta is doing. It seems like the Airlines like to copy each other sometimes.
Thank you! I agree. It would be unfortunate to see United and AA follow Delta.
Delta is following AA’s ‘simplification’ to the loyalty program, but went too far the other way with spending requirements.
I think if Delta had dropped MQMs and MQSs but kept the MQDs at the same requirements, it wouldn't be as bad. The Reserve Card deserves more SkyClub passes. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
What about the Barclay's cards??
That’s also another good option. It’s very similar to the Platinum Select card
💯
but United is infamously known for killing the most number of pets
You didn’t actually explain any of the benefits of Delta American Express Cards but just talked about the unfavorable changes that are now not even likely to happen.
I think that some of the changes will still be happening. I think the Delta Platinum Card will still lose its SkyClub access. But I am hoping the Reserve gets a few more passes each year. It would also be nice to see a better form of earning MQDs with the cards. $10 for 1 MQD is a hard sell.
I made a video on the Delta credit cards a little bit ago. It was actually my first video. Besides the more recent changes, everything else is the same. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/fpkPD5R_Y1M/v-deo.htmlsi=R5eUutOFlMRlQUlY
Just buy your new vehicle with the card and you get Diamond haha.
Hahaha you could do that! Might need to by an expensive car.
