Props for leaving in the missed shot. A lot of people will go through a long spiel about a shot, get down to take the shot, then there's an edit in the video, and the shot is executed perfectly. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to be fallible.
I've only seen one pro mention this tip that helped me more than anything. If the object ball is close and you need to elevate the cue ball more, aim to hit the cue ball with the top edge of the tip, not the middle of the tip. This made the biggest change for me.
Karl you should go far on UA-cam buddy, this is an excellent channel, love the content.. sorry I used to root against ya in the mosconi cup your actually a swell guy
Found your jump video Karl!! 😁 Great tips. You'll be happy to know that I prefer the dart method. That's what I used when I first started learning. So, yay!
Good video. I like the dart jump. Easy to get the ball in the air but you really need to focus on the aim. I can't even do the other type of jump. Glad to see your recommendation of the dart jump.
I’ve always been afraid of the jump shot. I’ve tried numerous times and it’s always a disaster. After watching this video I’ll be practicing these techniques to see if I can actually take on air over a ball lol. Wish me luck! 🍀
Could you explain how to do the side stroke? like Shane Van Boening. I usually use a standard elevated stroke but since I’m short I feel the side stroke would be more versatile but difficult to aim.
@@KarlBoyesPoolLifehow should you have your feet and legs turned. And should the dart jump only he held with 3 fingers and the other one with the whole hand?
As far as aiming is concerned, when I’m down at table height lining the shot up I like to find the spot on the ball I’m jumping over that’s directly in line with where I want to hit the object ball. Then, when I’m standing up I’m aiming in the direction of that point on the blocking ball rather than at the object ball. I just find it easier having a target that’s closer to the cue ball.
Excellent video karl, it would be nice to talk in a video about the new size of the table pockets, the angle of the corners and the drop of the cushions, and how is the new gray cloth going...Thanks for your job.
Thank you for the Review Karl!, I'm going to order a propel soon but change the tip, and was wondering if you can just use the weighted end only with the shaft for compact dart jumping?.
i only hate you a few days out of the year during the Mosconi Cup, sorry, loving your YT channel though! Badass pool table that i've never even heard of too.
Just wanted to drop a line. Really enjoyed your commentating during the Predator Premiere League this weekk, you and Phil work great together). I look forward to meeting you some day (I'll have some work to do in order to get to that level, but I'll get there). Next time I'm cross the pond... cheers(slainte)
Thanks for the tips Karl. I have a Rage jump break cue and I can jump enough with its tip, however I changed the tip for a Bulletproof break tip and couldn't jump 🤔 So I went back with the Rage's cue tip. Any idea why? PD. I'm from Colombia and going to London next month. Can you suggest me a pool hall? Thanks again. Having a hard time jumping when the obstacle ball is close, so will try the dart jump
Can you show where on the cue ball to aim for the jump shot? Or, is it the same aim as if you were shooting with follow or draw on a regular shot, but at the 45 degree angle? Do you use a steeper angle on shots over a ball that is close? Thanks for the great videos!!
Karl: Great videos and I like the fact you put Emily's picture in lol. Do you/will you cover the mental game? Sometimes I find it difficult playing away matches in somewhat hostile environments. Plus obviously there's the fact you can't get used to the table like you can "at home". Admittedly I'm talking about UK 8 Ball but I'm sure it would apply a lot to US Pool as well...
I do like the dart technique and love to play darts also. While jumping with the dart technique I do impart some unwanted side spin (left to right) which is most evident on the longer shots. I keep practicing but can't seem to rid myself of the side spin. Any thoughts??
I like to watch the object ball while jumping, but that only works if the balls are closer together. For a longer jump shot, do you watch the cue ball only when pulling the trigger?
great vid, gonna practice them dart jumps next time at the hall! any tips for how to practice screwing back off a jump? know guys that can really add any kinda rotation to a jump it's completely off my scope of understanding stuff
Hi Karl, can you do a tutorial on how to play jump shots with different spin? For example, I’ve seen Jayson play shots in tournaments where he jumps the cue ball and the cue ball screws back a couple of inches.
I am not bad at jumping, but it is definitely my weakness. I don't understand how some can jump and put draw on the cueball. I try that and it acts no different from when I just jump the ball.
I can dart jump nearly every time, but for some reason when I do a normal stroke, regardless of distance, I just can't seem to get the cueball up. I know it has to with the way I'm stroking it, because everything else is the same as my dart stroke, but I can't for the love of me figure out what it is.
@@KarlBoyesPoolLife These are the rules stated in the booklet. • Jump Cues - Only allowed in Masters Divisions. • Break Cues - Sometimes combined with jump cues to form a jump-break cue, these cues are allowed in League play for breaking. Hi Karl, just a quick question as a total pool noob. I saw the video of the whole fiasco where the ref pulled you up for 'measuring'. What exactly is measuring and why is it not allowed?
Good Q, apparently you are not allowed to use the cue ball as a aid to measure gaps etc or something lol I however was trying to get the cueball in the gap lol
@@KarlBoyesPoolLife Yeah I saw you somehow managed to squeeze it in. Felt bad for you having to put it back 🤣. Is that a really niche unknown rule? Cos it seems really nitpicky, and I honestly don't know how it provides any kind of unfair advantage.
