If anyone wants a good laugh, read the Yelp reviews of this store. Sandy insults practically everyone who walks into the store. He must have been on his best behavior when the TV crew was there, because he's hoping to sell and wants to make a good impression.
Those records are not worth a whole lot. He does not have the rarest of the rare, just abunch of STUFF STUFF. The guy is a jerk btw, don't let this interview fool you.
I’ve heard stories about this place…none of them flattering. The owner is supposedly a testy and crabby proprietor. I only hope the next owner will be abreast on manners and courtesy towards shoppers.
Sandy is asking $5 million for the property and $25 million for the LPs. Total price $30 million. It's a deal it should sell by the end of the month. The LPS will be shipped to China and Taiwan to get the highest price.
Lol 50 bucks a pop when many are classical? I’m sure he has some great jazz pressings worth triple figures but Asia doesn’t buy classical like they did in the 90s. I’d be surprised if he got 12.5 million. Old hack
Most of his records are common and outrageously overpriced. And $5 million is only for the building, He wants even more for the records. Anyone who pays his asking price has more money than common sense. I doubt anyone is that gullible. By the way he was able to "amass 10,000 classical LPS by 22" because his family used to have money, and that's how he was able to purchase that building also.
@@kmac64 wrong. There are Classical records from the early stereo period pressed in the UK by DECCA, EMI/Columbia that trade in the thousands of dollars. The Jonas Starker on Mercury is cheap by comparison. the top RCA's have all been reissued, same story.

The thing I would question is in the climate today with records being so hot....WHY would he be able to even keep that many on the shelf? Unless.....1. Sandy is a pill. Looking very frail compared to what he used to look like. Prices were always outrageous and yet when he'd purchase from collectors he'd lowball like crazy. Not my favorite and very uppity.
Been reading reviews about that place, and apparently he is AWFUL! I hope they lowball him too, or no one buys. Enjoy trying to peddle your bebop records.
@@musashi-san____1409 He's always been caustic, but got much worse in the 2000s - the voice alone annoys me. He came to my house when I was getting rid of my 6,000 classical records, many of them hugely rare. He low-balled me so much that I just told him to leave.
@@haineshisway Sorry to hear that. What kind of classical? Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Mahler, and Prokofiev? Did he really know his stuff, or was just there to do a bulk buy? Seems like he has lame taste in music. He didn't even show a 70's Miles album like Agharta.
@@musashi-san____1409 He knows his classical stuff very well, and I'd been in the store (when he was on Highland) and I always checked to see what he was charging for things I had, and what he was charging was always outrageous. Thank god. This store is in DESPERATE need of new ownership. I just left the store and let me just say…. This man’s reputation precedes him.
Let's finally get someone who actually knows how to run a record store, not allowing customers to browse is beyond stupid
It is music history. A lot of people have been forgotten. A lifetime of looking.
Vinyl for ever . The real sound of music

All the rare stuff is in the top racks.
…..Memories of Tower Records on Sunset in the 80’s.
Don't forget Aron's. That was a good store, too.
Location, location, location - Melrose is kind of deadly these days.
I'd guess he never'd sold to many.
Great interview. He asked good questions. Well done.
Read the yelp reviews people hate this guy
I have encountered him exactly once.
He is definitely not a "people person", but then I'm not one either.
Well I wonder wot is real estate property value VS. value of his record collection

Yes, he is crabby and testy, but he has a lot to offer if you can put up with him.
Being nice toward him Might help ...a little.
It looks like the world's largest dollar bin
Can you believe that many mediocre records were made?🤷
freddie hubbard , gato barbieri , miles davis , paul bley.... maybe acquire some taste?
Feel free to direct me to a store that's selling mint OG Miles records for $1. Or maybe you just don't have any taste.

Gonna miss ya Sandy!! Should be some good stuff from Moby Discs, Liquid, and Arons....
I wanted to hear Sandy tell the reporter to GTFO
Some of the first Miles pressings are worth several hundreds, and a few over a thousand. Weird that they ain't in sleeves.

The only way someone would buy that many is if about quarter a record or less
