How I Collect G-Shock and Other Casio Watches, Including Fire Package Watches

  • Many thanks to the folks at www.g-central.com for all the information they continue to share about G-Shock watches. I'm able to use their website to look up details about watches that are currently available as well as watches that have been available over the past several years. They are diligent about sharing not only information about the market in the U.S.A. but also other, international markets. Be sure to check them out.
In this video I share some basic ideas about how I decide which watches I want to buy. I'm a big fan of G-Shock watches with Tough Solar to charge themselves and Multiband 6 to set themselves to "atomic time". I like to look for interesting variations of watches that I may have already purchased. Often, that means I'm searching eBay to purchase watches from sellers who are in Japan.
A few days before I made this video I ordered two watches from Casio's 2020 "Fire Package" set. Every year for the past several years Casio has offered at least one pair of watches with similar colors as the Fire Package for that year. The 2020 Fire Package includes the model AWG-M100SF-1H4JR, the GW-2320SF-1B4JR, the GBA-800SF-1AJR and the GBD-800SF-1JR.

Well done video sir. I’m 57 and retired from the Army where I served for 26 years as an Infantry Senior NCO. My first Casio was a regular “Arnie” (gold face) I bought at Walmart around 1999 and I wore it when we deployed to Iraq in 2003-04. Right before we returned to Germany I gave my watch to a Kurdish man who was an Officer in the new Iraqi Army we trained a few months after the war ended, he was a great person and not inbred like the rest. I bought another Arnie when I came home and wore it for years on. I came across collecting G Shocks when I found them dirt cheap at pawn shops here in San Antonio and then I discovered the Pro Trek line where again, my first Pro Treks were found in pawn shops or other Nic nack shops for $30 or so. The PRG-600 line is what I wear daily and I have 6 Pro Treks in total and I always hunt for good deals online or in shops. I guess it’s fair to say that I prefer ABC watches that’re a “stand alone” technology since I don’t want something constantly tracking and listening to me, I have a cell phone for all that, lol. I also avoid buying a pro trek on emotion, i walkways wait for the best price but, I know that once the inventory is sold, the prices will be much higher on secondary markets.

The state of Utah used to use the slogan “The Greatest Snow on Earth” but then they got sued by Ringling Brothers... but the state of Utah is still in business now and Ringling Brothers is not.
I didn’t necessarily want to record a video while the snow was falling but I had just finished setting things up and, well, I decided to proceed. Fortunately, I didn’t have a giant flake land on the lens in the middle of this.

I think the point that you want to get across about duplicates has been addressed by other people as "in defense of the personal uniform". That's something I find quite cool, tbh. I always buy at least 3 or 4 jeans if I find a "model" that I like so I don't have to worry about one of them not being available at any given time.

When I buy watches I buy them in a less systematic way. Many of them are Casio but any also any other established brands. I don't always buy a new one. If ebay has a decent deal on some well taken care of watch I may buy it as well, especially if I see it is below the average price it has been selling on ebay. But, the mind trick I notice my mind does when I find excuses to buy them is that I somehow can find a good utility purpose for the watch if I do not need it. Yes, I could gift them to friends who likes it. Yea, I could sell it back to someone on ebay either making a few dollars, or at worst losing a few dollars. And finally, well, whenever my time comes to pass away, someone may want to inherit them. Not really valid excuses, but they are what I think when I find reasons to buy another one.

He had ONE hundred at ONE TIME in a parking garage just for him in NYC. Jay Leno likes to do some car collecting and EYE sea no RE A SUN why some people are CON FUSED about having a Casio or other watch collection. EYE just picked up a ProTrak 5571 and love it! Bought this watch much to your educational introduction to this line of fine products where EYE too am fed up with DST adjustments and accuracy issues and with the other complications of this watch it would have been the talk of the town had these been around back in the 70's. EYE use the barometer a whole lot and the tough solar is also fantastic.

Some people feel uneasy about it. I don’t regard it as a fake, but an accessory, like changing the watch band or the crystal. The band and bezel felt of reasonable quality, but I am not very experienced with metal bracelets. I used a basic G shock for the first one, so $40 for the g shock and about $120 for the titanium. The steel aftermarket is less expensive. A few months later I did it again with that carbon fiber strap gshock, as it has a titanium back and a better movement.
