Oh Nightwish....they seem to do it every time. Just a great song with all the usual greatness that comes with this band. Floor sounded Amazing as always.

When you think about it, our story goes back even further, to the first life. Evolution occurred so many times in the journey to us. This song sort of builds on that line from "The Greatest Show on Earth". How did it go? Something like "None of your fathers died young". What a testament, what a tribute to life and evolution! Here's a thought: my little dog, our cherished Yorkie, lies next to me, on his back, eager for a belly rub. We've had him since he was 10 weeks old, treating him like royalty ever since. He occasionally meets other 'royalty' who have also been raised with great care. This little fellow here, when he receives a treat, sometimes waits until he thinks I'm not watching, then goes to a spot, places the treat on the ground, and pretends to bury it. He moves his head as if he's covering the treat with sand! He's never needed to do this, and it's unlikely he's seen another dog do it. So, there must be something, a tiny fragment of instinct, that has persisted within him over an immense span of time. A time when he had to secure his food and save some for harder times. And that, believe me, must have been a very long time ago! Could it be a legacy from the time his ancestors were wolves? And why couldn't there be a trace of our ancestors lingering within us? For instance, why do I adore medieval markets so much? Why do I fear certain situations despite never having been harmed in them? There are endless questions for a curious ghost, and how can one not revel in being alive after pondering such mysteries?
I haven't stopped listening to this since it dropped! Like you Tommy, The opening text made a profound impression on me. Tuomas eloquently reminded us that we are all an integral part of not only our familial tapestry but also the tapestry of the Earth and beyond that, The Universe.. The words..perfume of the timeless...the evocative memory through scent of the past..The lyrics are poignant. Tuomas' use of language is sublime. The video outstanding! "We are because of a million loves ❤️ ".. it keeps hitting harder each time I hear it. Tuomas knows how to state the profound so poetically. As a student of ancestry, I get it.. so many.. so you could exist. Tiny parts of each, deep in your code. Go back far enough.. and we were one. As for the song, I posted detailed thoughts in discord but it was a blend of old and new. I really liked the instrumental breakdown, and the lyrics? Tuomas..?? Great review! I'm in stunned silence and in awe. Goosebumps all over. Both the song and the video are masterpieces, at the level of high art. It's going to take me quite a while to fully understand all the nuances and the depths of the lyrics and the imagery in the video. The message is profound: Each one of us, individually, exist only due to an uncountable chain of random occurrences. Change one variable or one occurrence and I wouldn't exist. Richard Dawkins touched on this in his monologue at the end of "The Greatest Show on Earth." This makes you look at life in a completely different way, and if only we could hold onto this awareness to help us though life.
Wonderful reaction as always good sir!! Nightwish has always had this amazing ability to create such spell bounding music with the combination of such a variety of musical and artistic talents!! This song and video is absolutely beautiful!… it really puts our mortality and history into perspective!! 👍❤️😊
It's amazing how far back we can get in very few generations. My mum's twin sister died 100 years ago (sometime in the winter of 23-24). My wife shook hands with someone who shook hands with Queen Victoria. And in a different vein, Arthur C. Clarke once said, "behind every man now alive stand 30 ghosts, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living."
Thanks again for an awesome reaction video. I listened to this song early in the morning with my coffee and was floored, but then several hours later when I sat down to rest for a minute from work, i watched the video and the intro hit me similarly to you Tommy! Since then I've probably played it 15-20 times. I hear a lot of similarities to the last two albums, for instance, Floors vocals sound a lot like they do on "Tribal" and does a lot of the drumming. Some of the piano sounds and or sound effects are almost identical to what is used in "Our Decades in the Sun". Both of which are pertinent songs to the message conveyed in this piece. I almost wonder if Tuomas had this song in mind but decides to keep it for later albums as it does kinda feel like the right "third piece" of a tapestry that has been woven over the last two albums.
Warning: metalhead boy rants for a paragraph below, read at your own discretion 😂I tried to make sure I was able to articulate my thoughts accurately here so that it's not just an uninformed fan ranting; I've put genuine thought into my opinions on it all. Before anything else, I will say that I do really like this song and it has me very optimistic for the album, as someone who really wants to see a return to a heavier sound, even though I strongly feel the vocals need to be MUCH louder in the mix, I can hardly make out what she's saying in the chorus. But, it's...difficult to explain why this song has made me a bit conflicted as well. I can summarize it that this modern era of NW (the Floor era), as great as Floor herself is, just...doesn't do as much for me compared to the previous eras, both lyrically and musically. Lyrically, things like ancestors, evolution, taking care of the world, etc. are not things that generally resonate with me. I don't look down on it at all, and I don't *dislike* it, but my personal philosophy for the world and my life has those as values that don't do anything to me on a core fundamental level. I suspect this comes from a mixture of personal reasons that would be too much to get into here. I'm also just not as big of a fan of the direction the band's production has taken lately either - again, it's not bad at all and I do enjoy it, but in the pursuit of sounding grand, majestic, etc. to my ears it just kinda falls flat from everything blending together *too* well. My ears don't feel enough of an oomph to have most of their modern songs have much kick to them. There's plenty of exceptions, I'm just speaking overall. I recognize the *objective* greatness to what Tuomas is accomplishing with these albums: I fully agree with comments I've seen that Tuomas isn't writing for a fanbase, he's writing for a legacy in the world. Just *subjectively* it doesn't connect with me, and that's absolutely OK since everyone has differing preferences. 🤷♂ Hopefully y'all can respect and understand my differing view, it's just been hard for me to feel like I'm on the same hype train that everyone else is for modern NW due to the themes and production not lining up for my ears as much.
Couldn't agree with you more. I've had enough of all this evolution, Ancestory etc. It started a little with EFMB, which was fine. Human Nature I found to be completely focused on it and this just seems like a continuation. Floor's voice is lost, the most powerful female voice in symph metal and it sounds like a whimper. With hindsight, I wonder if this was why Marko decided to leave? Perhaps he could see the direction they were heading and jumped ship? (It certainly wasn't for all the reasons we were told as he is now back touring and performing) I had very high hopes for this new record, but it is a massive disappointment for me. They say all good things come to an end, sadly I think it maybe true. Sorry to all of you who like it.
@@howlandgrowl Actually, sounds like you don't fully agree, you managed to draw some wrong conclusions / tone that I did not put there. Mainly that it's actually quite disrespectful and frankly insulting to Marko that you doubt his reasons for stepping out of the band. He was very clear that his reasons were for chronic depression and disillusionment with the industry. He took some time away and, on record in interviews, has stated that his depression got more under control and that he's open to seeing if he can find a new motivation and passion within music. Just because he managed to do that doesn't mean he was lying or omitting part of the story then, that's a very misinformed-on-mental-health conclusion to draw. I'm also very optimistic for this record to be the best of the trilogy, even if the overall attitude I have is that it's not my preferred era of the band, but it feels more like you took my words as "I hate this" which I did not at all say.
@@phoenixaki3458 Not sure where you get the "Hate" bit from? I said that I agree with what you have said. Anything after that is my own opinion, and not trying to "add" anything to your comment.

Hope you're keeping well yourself, relentlessly supplying the tunes/videos for our enjoyment.
None of our fathers died young. Its a miracle each of us exist. We won the lottery of birth. Make the most of it. Like Tuomas and Nightwish are doing. Great reaction to an excellent song and amazing video.
Thanks for the amazing review as always Tommy. When you get a moment play this song on your favourite platform, just close your eyes and listen. You won't regret it, this song gets better every time that you listen to it. Much love from New Zealand brother, rock on.
Back with a bang indeed! This song is everything i love with NW, epic, heavy and majestic but at the same time with a delicate beauty to it. And that lyric, god damn..., Tuomas' way with words is just smth else. Can't wait to hear the whole album.
It sind like a lovechild of Sahara, Pan, Tribal, Dead Gardens... But despite being much heavier and troy only singing the outro, it somehow feels like the song harvest hard to discribe why exactly, it's somewhere between the vibe and the lyrics that make it feel like Harvest, even though those sins couldn't be much different. And comparing to harvest, for me is a good thing, because I love that song
The video is fascinating, as it starts with the big bang (tying TGSOE and Shoemaker with those space shots) a cosmogony bit, then continues with the reptile that jumps into the water, the very source of life. The detailed fact of what it takes for us to exist is just mindblowing. Ngl, the open shot of the diver floating in the ocean tickled my anxiety, especially as the light/bait on the giant anglerfish's head becomes slowly visible (terrifying as heck) Next step in the evolution process, are the primitive organisms changing time and time again, creating many different species, including the homo sapiens sapiens, the toolmaker, the human we are today, (aka Tuomas), it also shows the raw, predator-prey dynamic. The section on the natural history museum is my favourite. The fossils are super cool, and the old-looking encyclopedias stand beautifully on the shelves. Floor's free fall into her own history pages reminded me of Élan, loved seeing the different shots, like multiple sides of her. Then back to the water, finally, a sort of fusion between her and Tuomas appear to be the first "curious ghosts" to explore the museum, though Kai's is already there, reading (The Portrait of Dorian Gray? I mean, because of how his face turned into a skull), I'm not sure how he got there though, but I'm guessing that every time the diver comes out of the water, it represents each of them. Emppu's journey took me by surprise, he seems to be a peculiar jellyfish, though it makes sense, the man himself is quite peculiar in the best way. Troy observing and gently reaching out to the butterflies is a lovely scene, like cherishing the smallest, most fragile living beings. A badass breakdown, mixed with visuals that gave me Procession vibes. Jukka's ghost disintegrating like that gave me the idea of "ashes to ashes, dust to dust". The last shot of the diver floating with the whales is beautiful, I've always loved their calls/songs. Then, everything comes to a full circle with that drop of water that nurtures the earth. At the end of our journey through this world, we will go back to where we came from. We become one with mother nature.
You really understand the song, this is not about metal or rock or symphony or floor, this song is about a experience, and let you thinking about your own existence, like a book or a movie, thanks for your reaction
I love it, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I’m a little sad that at the very least it’s going to be a very long time before we get to hear this live. Nightwish is unquestionably one of the greatest live bands in the world. To me, that’s the point of music, to play it in front of people. I don’t understand musicians who just make records. Also, a lot of people say Nightwish isn’t Nightwish anymore without departed members. I do miss Marco. But any band with Tuomas and Floor in it, two generational talents, is by default one of the greatest bands in the world.
I have a theory, for what it is worth, which is probably not a lot. I am wondering if a big part of the not touring this album is that their 30th anniversary is coming up in a couple of years and they want to tour for that because it is, after all, a pretty big deal. They were just coming off of a long hard tour, and it they did both an album tour and an anniversary tour, they would be on the road constantly for way too long. For an anniversary tour, they would be able to include songs for Yesterwynde.
I've seen this video 5 times since 4am and I'm not tired of it at all!! Already downloaded the single on Pandora to listen to death!! Cannot wait for Sept. 20 for the album to drop!! Have a wonderful day, Tommy!! Keep on smiling!!
Besides my brother, his wife and their two daughters, everyone on earth with my last name is a cousin. According to Google, the number is over 5000, all traceable back to one individual, in the mid 1600's.
there it is, the song of the year! it's breathtaking, i cried all through it the second time. being here for the music video premiere was magical. i think it sounds like a mix of the floor albums (being endless forms most beautiful and human nature) and imaginaerum with annette which is my favourite! it has all the things that modern nightwish has but in a way it's twisted and theatrical, moreso than the last two albums
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody fully! nightwish is different in that way, whatever they subject you to you are bound to remember it. there's a moment before and after hearing it and it will never be the same
I wrote this in the discord. This song left me a bit perplexed and disappointed at first, but after a couple of listens it’s growing on me. It’s good, it’s not just not my new favorite. But it doesn’t have to be. It leaves me even more curious for the album.
I really can't understand Tuomas' obsession with Charles Darwin, the man was a copycat and poser. There are other, and earlier, persons who made more and better science on the subject. I've always thought that Tuomas is much smarter than that, or is it just because CD is a household name?
i dont know how to connect :( so have u heard about Thy Serpent? Finnish black melodic metal... Please try Flowers of Witchery abloom. Thank you. Best regards, 40yo metalhead f from Finland
4096 for last 400 years averages 1024 per century so if let's say i am Greek we 've been around in Greece since 2000 BC give or take a century (2200-1900 BC official estimate) so circa 4024 years that would mean for me to exist 10299 ancestors had to live procreate and pass their genes. Makes one feels a burden....
As a side thought, Tommy, of the many people watching your reaction here with each having over 4000 ancestors in the past 400 years, how many will share an ancestor? Maybe a mathematician can solve the formula 🙂
Hmm. I had hopes. But maybe the newer stuff does not work for me. I liked everything before Human II Nature ... There is something missing when it comes to the music. A lyrical message alone is not enough for me. It is more a soundtrack than Metal. Somehow. I do not know how to describe what i think..... just not my Taste... lets wait for the Album. There is still hope ;)
Likewise, had high hopes. I'm wondering if it's Tuomas playing with our heads and minds? This could be the Black Sheep of the album? Lets wait, and hope. Only time will tell.
Very disappointed. Sounds too much like "Tribal" from the last album, also not well mixed. Can hardly hear Floor at times. I Hope the rest of the album is a lot better. I love Nightwish (Obviously!) but this is not up to scratch.
So the moral of this story is ‘don’t piss your life away, it has more meaning than you think!’
Exactly!
Oh Nightwish....they seem to do it every time. Just a great song with all the usual greatness that comes with this band. Floor sounded Amazing as always.

My wife shook hands with someone who shook hands with Queen Victoria. And in a different vein, Arthur C. Clarke once said, "behind every man now alive stand 30 ghosts, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living."
What an amazing thought!
Tuomas Holopainen is a genius!🤘🎸
He's a masterful storyteller!
amazing start. i think this was better song than anything they previous album. thanx to great reaction and have wonderful day.
I absolutely agree with your comment and really don' t wait full album👍
This is Earth Rock❤🌍
Hello old friend hope you’re doing well. I love how father Time himself a.k.a. Troy finishes the video out in style.
The Magician, The Butterfly Effect, "Fringe"? Could you see him as Walter Bishop? (not White, or Disney).
This was worth the wait. I watched and listened more than once so I could take it all in
This is gonna be a fun time when the album drops.
Hmm I see what you mean with the sound. But yea that beginning words...wow! Such an amazing thought!
A masterpiece really. And the music video was so good
you said it best.
And this is just the first single and music video and there will be 3. Very strong start NW🤘
I'm excited!
(It certainly wasn't for all the reasons we were told as he is now back touring and performing)
I had very high hopes for this new record, but it is a massive disappointment for me.
Thats the beauty of music and our souls. It affects all of us differently and you are allowed to feel this way. You also are safe to share your thoughts here. We have to learn to disagree in love. Keep being you!
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Thanks Tommy. Haven't commented much recently as there has not been much that really appeals to me. I would rather not comment than just say I don't like it. I didn't want to say that here, but ended up saying it by replying to another comment. This song does nothing for me, and I appreciate your approach about saying what/how you feel about something. Hope you're keeping well yourself, relentlessly supplying the tunes/videos for our enjoyment.
If the rest of the album is this epic then they bloody deserve the rest they're taking afterwards. Well earned.
None of our fathers died young. Its a miracle each of us exist. We won the lottery of birth. Make the most of it. Like Tuomas and Nightwish are doing. Great reaction to an excellent song and amazing video.
Well said friend!
❤
I ❤ this song--beautiful but kind of..sinister. Want the entire album.💥
Thank you for a Great reaction again🤘🇫🇮
You are too kind! This song was amazing.
Its going to be a great time!
You're like me, I sat with my jaw dropped for most of the video.
WE are the perfume of the timeless...
such great writing.
Harvest is such a beautiful song.
First listen.....Hmmmmm? Second Listen ........Oh yeeaaah 🙂! 3rd listen..........FFS fuckin brilliant 😍
What a cool video! It had sooooo many cool moments!
You really understand the song, this is not about metal or rock or symphony or floor, this song is about a experience, and let you thinking about your own existence, like a book or a movie, thanks for your reaction
Well said friend. Thanks so much for being here.
@@WNYretiree I think that’s a very optimistic theory. Wish you were right though
haha John you do what you wanna do! lol
Well hi did it again, another masterpiece of Tuomas mysterious mind
And I will also say that Nightwish has ruined me for pop music probably for the rest of my life lol I can thank them for that!!!!!!
I've seen this video 5 times since 4am and I'm not tired of it at all!! Already downloaded the single on Pandora to listen to death!! Cannot wait for Sept. 20 for the album to drop!!
Have a wonderful day, Tommy!! Keep on smiling!!
Yea this was so awesome! Thanks for being here and being you!
This Song is nice, but the original voice ist love 😢
its kind of like greatest show on earth but with the vocal style similar to Elan, but better
I was up at 5 am waiting for this to drop. So beautiful and perfect as all their songs are. It's going to be a long wait for September to come😢
A long wait but will be here before you know it.
So Epic
This is the first time that I am watching the video and my reaction is about the same as yours. It's a little overwhelming
Besides my brother, his wife and their two daughters, everyone on earth with my last name is a cousin. According to Google, the number is over 5000, all traceable back to one individual, in the mid 1600's.
So wild!
there it is, the song of the year! it's breathtaking, i cried all through it the second time. being here for the music video premiere was magical.
i think it sounds like a mix of the floor albums (being endless forms most beautiful and human nature) and imaginaerum with annette which is my favourite! it has all the things that modern nightwish has but in a way it's twisted and theatrical, moreso than the last two albums
I was not expecting to sob first thing this morning, but here we are!
omg those opening words about how many people it took to make us wrecked me!
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody fully! nightwish is different in that way, whatever they subject you to you are bound to remember it. there's a moment before and after hearing it and it will never be the same
I hate that I heard this song…now I have to wait for the album release 😢
hahaha You are so excited in the beginning then sad when its over lol
Supt direct
If we're in this genre, it's my duty to bring your attention to Melissa Bonny.
Ad Infinitum-Marching On Versailles.
OH I will look into it.
Oh! Just discovered that they're not new to you! Let's do it anyway!
I wrote this in the discord. This song left me a bit perplexed and disappointed at first, but after a couple of listens it’s growing on me. It’s good, it’s not just not my new favorite. But it doesn’t have to be. It leaves me even more curious for the album.
Out of respect for the band, I ask those who watched only this reaction to see the song also on Nightwish's official channel.
Don't know what to say. Probably better to say nothing.
I'm with you.
I really can't understand Tuomas' obsession with Charles Darwin, the man was a copycat and poser. There are other, and earlier, persons who made more and better science on the subject. I've always thought that Tuomas is much smarter than that, or is it just because CD is a household name?
i dont know how to connect :(
so have u heard about Thy Serpent?
Finnish black melodic metal... Please try Flowers of Witchery abloom.
Thank you.
Best regards, 40yo metalhead f from Finland
4096 for last 400 years averages 1024 per century so if let's say i am Greek we 've been around in Greece since 2000 BC give or take a century (2200-1900 BC official estimate) so circa 4024 years that would mean for me to exist 10299 ancestors had to live procreate and pass their genes. Makes one feels a burden....
You are an ember that can become a roaring fire.
As a side thought, Tommy, of the many people watching your reaction here with each having over 4000 ancestors in the past 400 years, how many will share an ancestor? Maybe a mathematician can solve the formula 🙂
Six degrees of separation...
The video was good but the song was far from their best.
Being good is good enough for me.
Wholly agree. Was going to add a comment, but decided to refrain.
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody I expect higher achievement from Nightwish. That is their fault for setting exceptional as a standard.
Very disappointed. Sounds too much like "Tribal" from the last album, also not well mixed. Can hardly hear Floor at times. I Hope the rest of the album is a lot better.
I love Nightwish (Obviously!) but this is not up to scratch.
great one, now i am thinking of my grandparents and there parents etc.. sadly i came to 3-4 ancestors🥲 to remember..
