Great job thanks for the demonstration. Seeing it work now makes sense. It's a cvt transmission. Varying the gear ratio dependant on rpm. Which will give you the best of both worlds off the line acceleration, top end hearing for higher speed. As long as it doesn't slip. So now I wonder how efficient at they? How much do they slip vs how long do they last.
To make this a tad easier to understand, the pullies use centrifugal force to open and close, changing the diameter of the front and rear pulleys. This, in turn, changes the diameter of the pulleys, causing the belt to slide to larger and smaller diameters, depending on how the converter is set up. It changes the ratio of the front and rear pulleys with the amount of power and the speed of the engine. One pulley will close, while the other will spread and allow the belt to slip into a lower diameter on the same pulley. The pulleys are "spring loaded", so as the rotation speed of the pulley gets faster, it will also spread further apart, which allows the pulley to recess into the pulley changing the gearing effect.
