  • Estrogen is a key hormone that declines in midlife. Although our bodies are set up for this, many modern women suffer from debilitating symptoms associated with estrogen decline. Dull lifeless hair, premature aging of the skin, and aches and pains that resurface out of nowhere can all be signs of unhealthy estrogen decline.
    There are so many things that you can do to maintain healthy hormone levels throughout midlife and yes, even through menopause. When you're able to help keep yourself nourished and balanced, you can prevent many of the symptoms we have come to expect and see as normal during menopause in Western culture.
    In this video, I'll share some top foods, preparation hacks and lifestyle tips to support healthy estrogen levels throughout the perimenopause and menopause years.
    Eastern Medicine has thousands of years of wisdom on how to bring the body back to balance and live with vitality at every stage of life!

    one thing missed here that is a source of phytoestrogens is flax seed - and for many of us soy (also phytoestrogen) is not a good food. Most soy is GMO and it is highly allergenic for many of us. When I had to stop taking estrogen for a medical reason and had unbearable hot flashes - flax seed stopped!!! them. That was proven when I was away on holiday, ran out of what I had taken with me (weight on my flight was an issue) - and back came the flashes in full unbearable force. I buy whole gold flaxseeds, grind them a bit at a time in a coffee grinder and keep them in the fridge. It took almost a half cup at the worst time years ago - now I just use a couple of tablespoons a day (age 76 now). I gave up on trying to use it in my cooking or sprinkle it on things and just mixed it up like pablum and spooned it down! If your ground flax is fresh and refrigerated it has little taste - rancid pre-ground stuff tastes fishy. I've told
    a few friends about this and it worked for them as well. I'm Swedish - so flax seed is a more normal food for me genetically than soy is.

      Beautiful! That's so great to hear. Thank you for sharing this.
      Yes flax is amazing and I highly recommend it as well. And I agree, soy can be problematic for some people. I always insist people get non-gmo organic and consume soy in it's whole/close to whole form (edamame, tempeh, tofu from non gmo source, 1 ingredient soy milk etc). I see in my practice so many issues that come when people think more is better and use the soy isolates and also don't diversify their foods. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and success with flax!

    Lady you are incorrect. Once your hormones leave, they do not come back! you can use flax and other phyto estrogens to temporarily ameliorate hot flashes, but that's not the only thing we need hormones for after menopause! we need HRT to help our skin, bones, brain health (especially need Progesterone for myelin sheath rebuilding.) sorry, you are not giving correct information. Flaxseed is a goitrogen and can mess up your thyroid, occasional use ok, and it is a good source of Om 3 and fiber, but women who add tablespoonsfuls to each meal will be sorry. it will not prevent bone loss or help rebuild bone. only HRT works.

      Thanks for your comment and your thoughts. I understand what you are saying. I am actually never saying that hormones will comeback to premenopause levels by doing this. I am working on making sure women are able to maintain healthy systems and balance and maintain the levels that they do have. There is a lot that's important to health post-menopause which includes bone health, brain health, maintaining muscle mass etc.. HRT can be helpful, but without looking at the whole picture and supporting women holistically, HRT can be like pouring water in a bucket but not addressing the holes in the bucket, so if they stop, they are back where they started (and there are nuances to all of this I know). So my work focuses on making sure women have the information to address the 'holes in the bucket' whether or not they coose to use HRT. BTW not everyone needs, wants or can use HRT so it's so important to have more tools. And re: Flax seed, there is not one food that is good for all. That's why it's so important to understand your body, work with someone who can customize foods, herbs, etc. and take all of you into account. I appreicate your thoughts and I think it's so important that we have inclusive conversations about all the supportive modalities that will help women - the more hands on deck the better everyone will be! Thanks again for your comment :)

    How do I balance my hormones to deal with all that you've talked about?

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for your question. For this, I recommend you work with a natural health practitioner along with any WM practitioners. hormone-sensitive breast cancers have a few underlying patterns and you're going to want to work with your specific symptoms and your particular pattern. I worked in integrative cancer care for years, and there's lots you can do, but it's important you work with someone who can tailor it to your body and situation specifically. Eating a whole food diet, free from pesticides, making sure you get a variety of nutrients and different food and managing stress (see the nervous system resetting tools here (ua-cam.com/video/N-jPfbrwB5Q/v-deo.htmlsi=_EkjYQhstXzPYBvv) are all important and helpful for healing in with both menopause symptoms and cancer. You might also want to check out this video (ua-cam.com/video/O2L9iku2Y6g/v-deo.html) for the foundations for balancing hormones as it too will be helpful for cancer healing. But for more specifics, you definitely want to work with someone one-to-one. I hope that's a bit helpful for you. Thank you for your comment and wishing you the best in your healing. xo

My doctor believes my estrogen has dropped really low and the suggestion that I use an estrogen cream. I have tried this and noticed no improvement. Any suggestions?

    Most of the foods you mention are also SUPER HIGH OXALATES

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  2 місяці тому +6

      Ah Oxalates. So oxalates aren't necessarily bad, and the foods that are high in oxalates also have many other huge benefits. The most important thing is to avoid them if you have a system that is reactive to them. Some people need to avoid them, it's true. Others can eat with no side effects/issues. I always suggest getting a variety of different foods (fruits/vegetables/protein sources etc.) as they all have different benefits. In my experience when someone sticks to one form of protein or one type of green (like a client I had that only ate spinach and developed a reaction to oxalates, or those who only ate soy as their protein and developed an allergy etc.), that is where we start to see problems. So first get diversity and try a mix of the different foods. Second, know your body and if you notice challenges, sensitivities (which can be done with the help of qualified natural health practitioner or observing reactions to foods etc.), avoiding or limiting depending on the case. Not a cut and dry answer. I appreciate your comment and post!

    I am 52 and have uterine fibroids and so am not sure this applies to me? I am in peri-menopause and was told fibroids would shrink in menopause. For now, should I avoid the foods you recommend as they are estrogen-boosting (cause of fibroids)? 🙏🏻

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  2 місяці тому +1

      Ah this is a very good and important question. Small amounts of these foods as part of a varied diet has many health benefits.
      When looking to boost estrogen naturally, particularly when cycling, you can highlight more of these food in the first part of your cycle to naturally support and boost your estrogen. For a case such as yours, it's ideal that you work with a health practitioner. TCM/Eastern Medicine can be helpful in treating fibroids b/c it looks at your unique pattern (I'll be doing more coming up on understanding your menopause body type and the different patterns that present themselves so that may be helpful for you too). The root of fibroids is not the same for all women, so it's important that you work with someone who can help direct you to the specific care and treatment customized to your unique case. So unfortunately I can't get any more specific for you and I know it can be frustrating when you're looking for specific support. . Thanks for your comment and for being here

    What about taking DIM? If you recommend it, what dosis?

    • @loneranger7573
      @loneranger7573 2 місяці тому

      DIM lowers estrogen, that's the opposite of what you want!

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  Місяць тому

      Hi - DIM works to balance "good" and "bad" estrogen's in the body and can be extremely helpful in addition to helping to prevent cancers, decrease inflammation, help with hotflashes etc. I tend to work with it more form the whole food side vs the supplement. If you want to get more specific with a supplement, I recommend working with a local naturopath/practitioner so they can customize it for you and what your needs are. I know that's not super helpful or specific. Making sure you're getting it through food sources (and ideally through cooked foods vs raw for absorption), can make a huge difference on it's own. I hope that helps a bit. (and my apologies for the delayed response, this comment got lost in my feed). Thanks for your question and comment!

    Any suggestions for onset insulin resistance in 60's no energy and set income so very hard to get or afford support

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  3 місяці тому +3

      Yes lots that can be done for that. I'll do a recording soon but there are a few foundations of healthy insulin 1- make sure to reduce stress any way you can (watch my previous videos on resetting your nervous system) and reduce stimulants and quick energy foods (coffee and sugar).
      2- some light intermittent fasting and opting for whole grains vs white flour products (ie brown rice vs white, bread with whole grains vs white etc). and lots of green foods. A few little suggestions that can make a big difference over time. And of course, check with your Doctor or health care provider for care specific to you

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  2 місяці тому +3

      This is a really good and important question. For this, it's really important that you work with a qualified practitioner that knows your specific history and can customize the food for your recovery based on your personal risk factors and needs. Having said that, so many of the foods that help keep hormonal pathways open and functioning well also have anti-cancer cancer properties. Cold pressed oils, leafy greens, whole foods, nuts and seeds etc. as part of a diverse and wholesome diet can have a profound impact on health, hormones and cancer healing and remission. I actually worked in a government funded integrative cancer centre in Canada for a number of years where they were funded to study the effects of this kind of diet, and other modalities and healing principles and it's effects on patient outcomes. The good news it works both in conjunction with western treatments and for remission and on it's own. I have a mini course that speaks to the foundations of healing based on these principles and the TCM approach if you're ever interested. You can find more here learn.yourradiantlife.ca/Integrative-Cancer-Care
      Thanks for your comment and I hope this was somewhat helpful. All the best with your healing!

    Can we have too much estrogen?

    • @angela_warburton
      @angela_warburton  2 місяці тому

      This is a great question! If you work on building/maintaining healthy estrogen levels through lifestyle and food it's hard to get too much. You can get too much if you're using hormone replacement for estrogen, which is why it's so important to speak with/work with a qualified practitioner who's doing the prescribing and monitoring you closely. It's also possible to have too much estrogen in your system compared to the other hormones. This can be a result of your detox pathways and you're body not eliminating it 'effectively' in addition to a few other reasons. Everyone has their own unique ecosystem so it's important to listen to your body and understand the signs and symptoms when your body is off balance or speaking to you through symptoms. I'll be sharing more in the upcoming weeks about how to ready your body symptoms from and Eastern perspective and how it relates to hormones, so stay tuned :). Hopefully that's somewhat helpful!
