hi, i'm brazilian, so here in Brazil this song wouldn't be considered pure bossa nova, but it's clear that there is a strong influence mainly from Tom Jobim (the author of the girl from ipenema) in the song, which is incredible. Brazil has many wonderful rhythms, I would love to see you reacting to some, but I understand that this may not be your style, but when it comes to Tom Jobim I am in love with two of his songs. which is enough of saudade, (chega de saudade ), even saudade is a word that has no English translation so we approach what it means and Only you (Só Você ) with Elis Regina, who is an incredible Brazilian singer with a voice and lyrics that cut the soul.

Halley's Comet from her HTE album is another beautiful ballad; I love "idontwannabeyouanymore" written by 14 or 15 yr. old Billie (and FINNEAS). Also, the Brazilian guitarist, ROMERO LUBAMBA, who played "Billie Bossa Nova" for the Happier Than Ever music film, breaks down the song and the BOSSA NOVA genre in his video from November 10, 2021 - the channel is OPEN STUDIO; his daughter sings the song - her name is Luisa Lubambo, and it's beautiful. P.S. "Xanny" is a slower, jazzier song by Billie off her debut LP (song about the dangers of using mind-altering drugs). The suicidal "Listen Before I Go" either off that album - WWAFAWDWG - or the live solo performance by Billie (playing piano - with no Finneas) for the Apple concert, is chilling; and "I LOVE YOU" from the same album or the live Governors Ball performance with Billie and FINNEAS on an elevated bed [symbolizing where and how they made the song in FINNEAS's bedroom in their little home] is a beautiful, and I believe, enduring love song.

Really enjoyed your take on this one by Billie. That album really was a delightful surprise. I was saddened that the Grammys ignored it.

This is one of my favourites from the new album, I used to listen to it non-stop
I love your bored guitar player impression, it's so accurate 😂😂

She was dating with her ex boyfriend secretly for many months, he was often present to see her on tour and then she sometimes published stories from her hotel room and you can see someone was with her (they often traveled together for the tour, photographed them hand in hand) so obviously they were together in that room .... you know ... lol, so she probably describe her memories with him, anyway she always writes personal stuff, she wrote few songs from the point of view of others, very few, but this last album is very intimate, they are all personal reflections about her life, desire for redemption (after depression and inner demons she had as a teenager perfectly represented by her revolutionary debut album), hope, future, denunciation of sexual violence and abuse (which she suffered many years ago), bodyshaming etc she is very introspective in her songs... she is really an unique and special artist .. and i love so much this reaction, very VERY interesting, thanks.

I'm so happy you're reacting to Billie! I love your take on the song and how you really analyze the lyrics. Happier Than Ever album is great imo. Would highly recommend you also check out Male Fantasy and Your Power, as well as her No Time To Die performance at the Oscars.

Acoustic recommendation- She did a couple Mahogany Sessions songs a couple years ago that are good. They’re songs from her first EP with just her and her brother in a room like this video was- her Mahogany Sessions performance of Copycat is my favorite

Ooh, also End of the World (Radio 1 Piano Sessions) has some great harmonies with Finneas. It’s a cover and not one of her original songs so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re looking for, but I still highly highly recommend it 🙂

The lyrics on this one are so interesting. From what I know she's got the idea for this song while on tour/traveling a lot. The different names at hotel check-ins is obviously something she was doing and her and her brother kinda came up with this story of two people meeting up that way. I could be a bit autobiographical (all of her songs are in some way) but I think its more story telling/capturing a feeling most have had in a relationship at one point. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong please, but thats what I remember her saying about this one.

Nice of you say you don't care about particulars of her relationship. This song is not about a specific relationship but a way of life that she has to contend with. It took a long time from idea to record this song, and perhaps crossed several real-life relationships. Their main aim seems to be exploring the genre and music style, much like how they explored bond theme songs long before she got a chance to sing for 007 movie.

no its about a VERY specific relationship with her ex boyfriend Matthew (secretly) but it's normal... ^^

as someone from Brazil, it isn't Bossa Nova, but it's a great tune. Bossa Nova has a very specific playing pattern. This song isn't it, but it's very vibey nonetheless.

Ooh I love Billie's voice so much. Her entire second album is very interesting and a step away from her first' sound, which it sounds like you didn't really vibe with. Her second album is definitely worth checking out.
I also would love your take Andy, as a professional musician, on a song or two from Lorde's latest album. Mostly because it was VERY polarizing when it was released, with half her fans hating it hard core and the other half adoring it hard core.

I adore this asong. What a great reaction. And I'm so glad you're reacting to more artists! Camila Cabello just released a new album andI would love to see reactions to some of the songs, for example: Lola, Bam Bam, everyone at this party.

They have done acoustic versions of most of her songs and those are usually my favorites versions by far. I do not care for the song Bad Guy but the acoustic versions of even it are pretty bad ass.

😎 Not too familiar with the music style -- the video sort of reminds me of the 1950's black and white tv. Oh, his name = Finneas Baird O'Connell (his stage name is just his first name in all caps; he's 5 years older than Billie, who is now 20. She was 19 for last year's award shows.

I was told in a previous video's comments that she's singing about a guy (older guy to be specific), not sure if it's true, but that's what I was told.
