  • This is another one of Manly Hall's regular Sunday talks, "A Study in Attitude Fixation: The Power to Change Your Mind", and was recorded on February 16, 1964. As always, Hall delivers timely and timeless messages that are just as important today as the day they were spoken.
Discipline and Self-Discipline seem to be the main theme in Hall's approach to the topic.
36:30 "Anyone who has enough strength to get into trouble also has enough strength to get out of it. There is no reason why we should have plenty of energies with which to maintain misery and none with which to recover from misery."
Download mp3 audio file of this lecture for offline listening: www.manlyhallsociety.com/prod...
We are pleased to be able to bring so many of his rare lecture recordings to the seeker of today. Any help of support would be greatly appreciated so that we may continue in this much-needed work. Thank you.

I dropped out of high school about 3 times. Technically, I dropped out of middle school. At home, I had no chores at all. My single mother’s only expectation of me was to agree with her no matter what. My absent father only expected me to pretend he was present. As an adult, I learned to discipline myself. I got a GED, associates, and bachelor’s degrees. I currently have a career and a clean home, and I am teaching my children discipline and responsibility. All due to self discipline and a positive mental attitude.

50 years of tireless digging into the pillars that sustain humanity's existence, condensed into this one lecture. That's pretty neat if you ask me. And not even once did he refer to any of the religions, mysticism, esoteric and occult traditions he spent thousands of hours studying, demonstrating that alignment with nature and truth is not dependent on any of that. I don't know of anyone that articulated it better than he did here.

Around 20:00 manly p hall talks about the current spoiled generation (imagine what he’d think of OUR generation), but it reminds me of The Squid Game. Most middle-aged players of the game are in debt up to their ears for investing in get-rich-quick schemes. Their parents (specifically the main character’s mom and his friend’s mom from grade school) work hard every single day for their income no matter how little they make, they are still working hard, aren’t in debt, and actually contributing to society. We are right on our way to making The Squid Game a reality if it isn’t already.

I think Mr. Hall appreciated the difficulty in personal growth, with all the influences and distractions from society, culture and family. I have listened to hundreds of his lectures, multiple times each, and he is consistent with his message: We are here to grow, growth can be difficult, and, even the smallest changes and improvements are quite valuable. So, go easy on yourself!

I appreciate and value many of Mr Hall's talks, including this one in part. However, his assessments of why certain countries have Communist governments is off the mark. Certainly for example, Russia prior to the Bolshevik revolution was not by the wildest stretch a country of entitled, coddled people. The assertion is simply fallacious.
