WOW!!! A very unexpected and pleasant surprise, thanks Jason! You even listened and went ahead to grab yourself a reflector headlight to do testing with? Right on, keep it up. Will be waiting for the Ultra 2 comparison, suuuper excited!
Great test. I especially like that you tested the powerloss after 30 minutes. One thing I want to that detail. For bulbs that are closed in the headlight, like an H7 or H1, the powerloss will be even greater because the sealed headlight gets even hotter. So to power will actually be closer to a high performance halogen in the hotspot.
I replaced the Diode Dynamics SL1 I had in my low beams in my Subaru Impreza with these. While I think the DD were slightly brighter I really like the idea of having a heated lenses. They work great and the quality is top notch. Thanks for the great video. I've moved the DD's to the wife's car's fog lights.
I've been running the GTR Ultra 2 led's in my 2020 Charger Scat Widebody for about a month now and they are amazing! I would really like to see you compare the Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 vs the GTR Ultra 2 soon. Thank again for the great videos.
@@dbriggs1689 No issues at all. I did purchase the anti flicker modules but didn't need to install them. Zero flickering and just a solid perfect beam pattern. Amazing light output.
Thank you for bringing up light output after 30 minutes. I think it's the most important aspect of a review because what's the point of a bright led if it's super dim after 10 minutes due to bad design.
Very true and I just learned about this. A lot of reviews I've seen on UA-cam fail to mention that LEDs and lose efficiency when they get warm which leads me right back to hid bulbs
Just got a set of these today from Headlight Revolution, going into a 2007 Ford Expedition, one thing nobody talks about is proper adjustment on these bulbs to achieve best results. I'm going to try the 3 and 9 o'clock position first.
@@InJasonsGarage It's the factory housings that came with the halogen bulbs. I did replace both housings with new ones about 3 years ago, but they are OEM Ford housings.
I'm really impressed with the light output on these lamps driving on unlit rural roads going to work. Where I needed my highbeams I now don't need them. Driving this 15 year old SUV now is like driving a completely different vehicle. Foglamps are next and plan on using the same brand for those. How should the fog lamps be clocked ???
@@barbiesawada245 If they are projector housings, you want the LED chips to be in the 3 and 9 o'clock position. Most lights have the connector coming out of an edge of the back of the fan housing (and not coming out of the center) and are designed to have the connector pointing straight down in this position. For a reflector housing, look at how the reflector is designed. You should see edges built into the reflector bowl. You want to align the LED chips to fire perpendicular to those edges. Most are vertical, so like projector housings, you want the LED chips to be in the 3 and 9 o'clock position. However, a small percentage of OEM reflector designs have those edges on an angle. If that is the case, you want to adjust the LED chips to shine perpendicular to those edges for proper alignment.
@@InJasonsGarage Very nice & enlightening review! Would you say that this led bulb can illuminate more light down the road then any other incandescent bulb such as the philips racingvision GT200 & osram night breakers? (Specifically in an h11 reflector type of headlight for low beam)?
Tried these in my f150 refitted with alpha Rex pro series headlight. They created a lot of interference with my radio. Loved the lights but the interference was too much for me, my favorite station had a hard time coming in clean. In trying to find a solution to this problem i found out some aftermarket radios get interference from leds. I did try using ferrite cores. They didnt help the problem, so I had to send them back. Would have loved to keep them.
I’ve got 2.0s in alpha Rex projector housings and I’ve never had better visibility at night with other LED’s or HIDS. Also they aren’t blindingly bright. I would only recommend LEDs in projector housing, reflector housings are just too bright and blinding on the road even after adjustment
Excellent video and demo Jason, thank you! I say it's even better than what HR did. I've always been a big fan of Morimotos, I have their HID kit on my Venza back in 2011 and they have yet to fail. To me, they are like the Toyota of the HID/LED world as in they are just built with quality and robustness and not just gimmicks. I have the 2.0 on my Honda VFR 800 and the light output just blows me away. One thing about the old 2.0 is the fan is very noisy from the start before going quiet once it's been running for a minute. Maybe do a side by side comp with the GTR which is another good brand
Thanks so much for the GREAT compliment, especially since HR and Morimoto have the same parent company! That really means a lot. I do like Morimoto products...and I agree with the Toyota comparison. I might use that later. 😉 If you like this video, check out my new channel carlightreviews.com where I did indeed test the GTR Ultra II...but with a different/better projector, so they can't be compared apples to apples. @@InJasonsGarage Hello! Would you say that this led bulb can illuminate more light down the road then any other incandescent/halogen bulb such as the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra &/or the Phillips GT200 in a reflector type of headlight? Great review & very detailed analysis 👍
Super pumped to put these in my Gladiator. Going to ditch my 6500k amazon bulbs for these 5500k somewhat heated exchanging bulbs should help my winter commute too! I will post a video when I can.
Just came across your videos/channels.. Back to back watches 7/8 videos. Nice work man. 1. Do you still recommended these ones or GTR or Bevense? My priority is beam pattern/throw, then heat, then brightness. Cost is not much of an issue. Quality and visibility matters more.
I have tested MANY more lights since this one over at my other channel, carlightreviews.com. There's literally hundreds of LED headlight upgrades out there that are very similar to each other, with little tweaks here and there to make them better or worse or brighter or dimmer...but I still haven't seen anything like the Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0. If you want quality and accurate beam pattern, I think this is a vey good choice for your priorities.
It has a clever cooling system, and in a reflector headlight i can imagien it works. but in a projektor i don't know if there is enough air inside to cool it down efficiently.
I'm worried about it cooling down in either honestly. How stupid it pulls air in and exhausts it in the same sealed chamber it sits in, so essentially it will just keep getting hotter and hotter as it sucks air back in that it just exhausted 🙄
I just replaced my 2.0 (one blew out) with 3.0, way way better design. Didn’t need to mess with clocking. Was plug and play. Nice crisp DOT cut off on low beam. It’s basically a poor man’s projector setup. I have done full projector swap and for the work and money, I may just start using these instead.
I'm surprised you reviewed this new bulbs b4 the gtr ultra.🤣 Ps when you do a review of the gtr lighting. Can you do a comparison between the too? Thanks jason!
I thought it might be best to put the GTR Ultra on hold since there were a lot of videos already about it, but the 2Stroke 3.0 just came out. However, expect that GTR Ultra review in the near future. Can't wait to see how they compare.
...and as promised (albeit rather later than I wanted it to be)...here is my review of the GTR Ultra 2 on my new channel. Check it out and subscribe! ua-cam.com/video/pqElv7yaUA4/v-deo.html
Hey Jason, great review, however just an FYI, the packing reads bulbs and there is only one bulb per box. Very misleading from the manufacture and when purchasing online.
Its super thin thats probably why the beam pattern is good, closer to the position of the original halogen filament. just like in some other led models out there but the drawback is that you cant put out a lot of brightness/lumens or it will fail prematurely, the heat will overcome the thin design. The fan design could be ideal for reflective headlight but how about in a very tight space projector? Imo, car manufacturers should design headlight housing according to these led designs (like the halogen housing) not the proprietary led headlight that cost an arm and leg to replace when it failed.
Nice review! Just got a question... My cars voltage dips big-time when the a/c clutch kicks in. Still trying to find out if it's the coil or the pump that needs attention. How does the ballast/light cope with a short dip?
My H11 are a pain, I can't get it to be consistent. I tried pulling, pushing, just twisting, it won't lock unless it's turned to the stop of the adjustment mechanism and then trying to adjust just unlocks it from the base.
My first LED light review was one with an internal driver. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/7yD-y1Yrr5Y/v-deo.html. It did very well, but as I learned more and tested more, I found that I personally don't prefer them as they can't manage heat as effectively as lights with external drivers. They are great if you have extremely confined spaces to work with, but overall, if you have the room, use one with an external driver. See more here: ua-cam.com/play/PLq79AIsMUwnctCbimt--Y0DGrdkJpp_fu.html
You think HIDs at 35 Watts still put out a better light pattern on a halogen projector?... I don't think most people know that LEDs lose some of their light output when they warm up I had no idea until I started researching if I was going to get LEDs or HIDs for my new van🤔🤷♂️
Installed projector housings and HID bulbs in my 19 Colorado . Lordy, they are a little too bright. They are aimed properly though as to not blind on coming drivers, I am considering stepping down to LED or some brighter Halogens, if I could raised them up just a bit more to see signs a bit better, that would be great for night driving. Only issue is that LED tuned to 4000-4500K is near impossible to find. 5000K is a bit too blue in my opinion.
I started doing that lux test after I reviewed these lights. I am thinking of revisiting some previous light reviews to do a retest, including this one.
I'm curious about the design which takes air from within the projector and sends it back through the internal led bulb housing and back to the projector... It will keep getting hotter the longer it runs, instead of taking outside air and cooling the air in the projector. I'm no engineer, but doesn't that create a situation of diminishing cooling properties? Perhaps it's great for fan noise, and preventing dust and moisture? Seems like it may be poor for long term reliability.
When the hot air passes through the back to the unit (outside of the headlight housing), the heat sink fins radiate the heat away, and then the cooler air circulates back in. See the 3:42 section.
Morimoto make great products but a bit disappointing on its 75% efficiency after 25min. Thought it would retain 85% plus based on their cooling capabilities. But great bulb none the less especially for reflector housing.
Franky, I was too. It is on par with other lights but I thought it might be better myself. Keep in mind, this is a stationary testing rig with additional circulation of any kind. It (and the other lights I test) may do better when installed on a vehicle driving at speed.
@@InJasonsGarage I watched your most recent led test and saw some bulbs down to 80-90% after 20 mins and that's what I was comparing to. Not sure if this is still active but I’ve got a 2017 Pilot. I’d like to start with replacing my low beams. Prefer white over yellow but can i use fog light bulbs? Also, do I need an anti flicker device?
I'd suggest that in addition to this video, you check out my other channel that I made dedicated to tests like this. www.carlightreviews.com There is quite the blurred line between what an LED headlight bulb and an LED fog light bulb is. Because replacing an OEM halogen bulb with an LED bulb is not legal for on road use in the US, many companies sell LED headlight replacement units with the terms "fog light ". In most cases, the size determines if it is compatible, not the marketing lingo. In terms of if you need an anti-flicker unit...In these situations, I always suggest that you consult your favorite social media group or message board specific to your vehicle.
What up Jason I’m wondering how good would this work on a hot California day since it’s using and circulating the same air in the housing wouldn’t it over heat on a hot day? I bought the GTR ultras for another vehicle and thought there were bright but I still see other vehicles with brighter lights 😞
When the hot air passes through the back to the unit (outside of the headlight housing), the heat sink fins radiate the heat away, and then the cooler air circulates back in. See the 3:42 section. Or consider this... where does the heat from your OEM bulb go? I tested a halogen H11 bulb to be around 300 degrees after 27 minutes. Most quality LED lights are 1/2 or even around 1/3 that number.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is an easy way swap of any LED light in place of the factory C6 Corvette HID light. People have done custom fab jobs, but nothing plug and play. I wish there was!
Why do people think that LED is illegal? If it was illegal, car manufactures wouldn't use it on their OEM headlights. The Corolla headlights are LED from factory. I have them on my car for over 2 years and nothing happened to me. Using the wrong color and not aiming it the correct way is what makes them illegal. Explain to me how can manufactures can put them on their cars but is illegal to use them?
See "0:35". " _Replacing halogens bulbs with LEDs_ for headlights in the US is currently not legal." This doesn't include factory LED headlights, which are designed, engineered, tested, and validated to meet regulatory specifications. Removing a factory installed halogen bulb and replacing with something that is not engineered for the specific housing it is going into doesn't meet the same specs that an OEM LED headlight has to.
People think LED is illegal because it is if you are modifying your original equipment. If your car came with factory leds the housing and bulbs are DOT approved. Aftermarket bulbs that will change the characteristics of the brightness and more importantly the beam pattern are not. If you want to argue just ask Morimoto the makers of this bulb. They will tell you directly they are for "off road use" only.
Thank you for your scientific explanation of the illumination patterns. I just replaced the original halogens in my 2015 Camry hybrid with Fahren LEDs. My concern is that halogens emit light 360 degrees about the circumference of the bulb. LEDS produce light horizontally 180 degrees opposite one another. The LED replacements are brighter and whiter but seem to lack near field illumination in the middle of the pattern. HID seem to be the best for illumination pattern. Am I missing something?
Good observations, and I don't think you are missing anything. You make some good points. LED headlight upgrades are often an improvement...but not a perfect improvement. The technology just isn't quite there yet to replicate eh size and shape of a halogen filament exactly. However, keep in mind your view from the driver's seat. You need a broad, wide field of view, just below the eyeline of oncoming traffic. Firing the emitters horizontally is...in my words...a "hack" of the halogen housing to get the job done as best as they can. In my book, the jury is still out if LED's can replace the output of HIDs completely. Personally, I don't think they can...but LEDs do have their advantages over HID in other ways. Check out my other channel that I started since I made this video over at carlightreviews.com. I've been continuing the testing and reviews there, and I will be doing an HID vs LED shootout this year.
I had GTR LEDs in my 17 Ram 5500 Tow Truck & they were amazing... Bright & had a nice beam pattern with great peripheral illumination...even after 6 years of heavy use (commercial Tow Truck that works ALOT after dark, they were still brighter than the new MM)... I had 2 Deer jump in front of me on the highway before new years & the front was smashed. Insurance repaired the truck, so I decided to try these new MM LEDs since I live in Minnesota & we get winter for 5 months a year & the idea of the heat sink recirculating to keep the lens melted was intriguing. Well, after a six weeks with these.... I'm very disappointed compared to the GTR lights... the MM are not as bright & the more concerning area is the severe lack of width in the beam pattern... the truck has the standard parabolic reflector (not projectors) and even though they were clocked correctly.. the peripheral lighting is sub par....I even tried reclocking them to other positions just for curiosity, it didn't help. I doubt they can be returned/exchanged after being used for a 6 weeks... But I'm going to re order the new GTR Ultra... the MM were disappointing for the price. I have several other vehicles with GTR lighting & they've proven to be good performers & reliable.
Great videos. Is it possible to clock the light out of the socket? I need to get about a 15-20 degree angle but it's not adjustable in the light fixture for my car.
but@@InJasonsGarageThanks, I tried to clock in the socket but couldn't and did finally figure out how to clock it outside of the socket. Again great videos.
Great video Jason. I just bought these. Look like a fine LED. Problem I have is I cant twist the collar to get to a 3 and 9 as shown in the instructions. I tried all 4 LEDs unless it takes a huge amount of force. Advice?
@@InJasonsGarage H11. S and 9005. 2008 Chev Silverado HD. OEM Halogen collars look the same. Morimoto said I should be able to rotate each collar. Tried all 4 pushing in and turning. No go
@@daveholte7658 In that case, as long as your reflector ridges are vertical, and the LEDs to fire perpendicular to the reflector ridges (left and right) you don't need to rotate the collar.
Its important to note that the SAE J3145 standard is still a work in progress. Meaning all technical aspects of the LED equivalence criteria are still to this day being sorted out. All preliminary technical requirements could change. So its an inaccurate statement to say that this Morimoto bulb will comply when/if the standard is accepted by regulators which isn't happening anytime in the near future. However this bulb is leaps and bounds better in its *attempts* to replicate a filaments light source characteristics than any other LED bulb on the market. Mainly because all the garbage amazon/ebay/aliexpress bulbs don't put this sort of thought into their bulbs.
Good points, and I am glad you made them. True...this light is not "future proof" when it comes to regulations, but should. If SAE J3145 were to be passed with the exact specs in place when this light was released, likely no problem. I felt it was important to mention because I don't know of any other LED manufacturer that even mentioned SAE J3145.
The question is, how do you find the true wattage of each LED bulb, you see "60/70watts, but is it for each bulb, or is it a combined wattage of the two bulbs. If it is say, 60watts for two bulbs, then we of course have only 30watts per bulb. My bulb work at 45/55watts (Halogen). And we read about "flicker" on daylight running lights. Would be nice to know the true wattage of each LED bulb before a possible purchase, and the ones that do not suffer from daylight running light "flicker".
It varies on how the manufacturer publishes the numbers. Most combine them to show a big number in the product title, and then specify in the description that is actually half that number per light. I do my research before I test to see what the published number is per light and then mention the actual number according to my testing (which is now done on www.carlightreviews.com) 😁 See the 0:21 mark on the power supply I use and I calculate the wattage by multiplying the volts times the amps. That's how you know for sure...and how it differs from the published specifications. Flicker is more vehicle specific than bulb specific. Some cars don't like LED upgrades and have the flicker issue and need additional parts like anti-flicker modules. That's not the bulb's fault.
@@InJasonsGarage Thank you for your reply. I wish to upgrade my lights for my 1996 Lincoln Town car, but an LEd that will give flicker on my low beam runnings lights here in Canada, again thank you

I would’ve loved to have had those in my 2017 VOLVO XC60 with xenon lights but there is absolutely zero room for those H7 bulbs to begin with. Doesn’t Morimoto make a slim H7 that would fit into the tiny compartment of my VOLVO XC60 headlight unit?
All the single beam has DRL functions feature. I think maybe it is illegal in US market to say use it for DRL function. Like that they always say their led bulbs only for fog light or off-road use.
Since you have a 2nd gen Colorado, you certainly need a headlight upgrade - they are known as one of the worst in the industry. I own a 2018 Canyon and went with Morimoto HID system, which was a very nice upgrade - no comparison to OEM. Also, sorry to see the Camaro Show Podcast go.
I would use these in the truck, but unfortunately, I don't think they will fit behind the shallow dust caps. I believe Canyons have deeper ones that might fit. I have test fit Diode Dynamics and they do fit so it is a decent upgrade over stock. But as you say...anything is. I was thinking about upgrading to HID with a bigger projector in the factory housing...but maybe that is another video. :) Thanks for mentioning the show, it was a lot of fun over the years.
@@InJasonsGarage For the HID installation, I did the dust cap modification shown on the ColoradoFans forum with some inexpensive black plastic sewer caps from Menards - worked well and looks acceptable too. Before the HIDs, I was obsessed with finding an LED headlight bulb that worked very well with the projectors. They were bright, but lacked the hotspots needed for distance. @@williamrankin2299 Man...there's GOTTA be a better way to extend the dust caps cleanly. I see that there's some people who did 3D printing but didn't go well.
When the hot air passes through the back to the unit (outside of the headlight housing), the heat sink fins radiate the heat away, and then the cooler air circulates back in. See the 3:42 section.
What if your projector lenses have a dust cap that encapsulate the bulb inside wouldn't hot-air be recirculated because the dust cap is cutting off any air from getting inside?
@@gabeh7373 Here's something to also consider...where does the heat from your OEM bulb go? I tested a halogen H11 bulb to be around 300 degrees after 27 minutes. Most quality LED lights are 1/2 or even around 1/3 that number.
Good point, I didn't know if the headlight unit in different vehicles whether projector or reflector if it's sealed off in the back with a dust cap I didn't know if it was airtight, but if there's a way or somewhere where the air can ventilate from the headlight housing then yes it makes sense. I just mainly didn't know if a housing was air-tight and you're just recirculating hot air
@Gabe H It is a good question, for sure. Some do, some don't. My two vehicles with projectors had a dust cap, but the F-150 reflector housing I use to test also has one.. Of the cars I have had, they are pretty much air tight with an o-ring seal.
That's a solid question. I am going to assume that if they are offered in your size, they function correctly. However, you should confirm with Morimoto to be sure.
This was before I started measuring both the projector and reflector lux output. However, when I do my next round of testing I will test them and report on the number.

Funny you should ask that! I have been wondering myself. I was thinking of upgrading projectors in my Colorado and I'd have to go to HID. I think it depends on the combination of projector housing quality and of course, HID bulb and ballast quality.
For the moment no, LEDs need to overcome their main issue: dimming down when it heats up. Hella makes some good stuff, so a premium light may be needed to be an improvement, and since it is a reflector, this one has one of the best reflector patterns I have seen for such a bright light. Let me know how it works for you.
Following this review (and others) I was tempted to purchase these lights. But what a disappointment especially their clarity. Visibility at night is hardly better than with the original halogen lights. Even my half-defect SNGLs (55W) give more light. Really a waste of money!
@@MrCbrfken Well that is just odd. I am sure this is a long shot, but have you tested them outside of the housing to ensure that they are igniting brightly and all that? As I mentioned, some light designs don't do well with certain housings. If nothing else, I'd reach out to the company you bought them from and see what they can do for you.
They ignite normally but give way too little brightness for me and the width of the beam may also be a bit more, compared to my previous even half working (defective) SNGLs (6200 Lm/55 Watt each - I think the less power, the less brightness). I'm looking for SNGLs again (not available on Amazon at the moment) or based on: www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/#spx (if they ship to europe)
Typically, high beam or low beam isn't a specification per bulb. If your high beam specifies a certain size, get that size. Although, not all lights are available in all sizes.
@@InJasonsGarage along these lines, my intention is to use these in some glass replacement shells that take the place of 5x7 sealed beams. These shells which I got from Heqdlight Rev accommodate an H4 bulb What will happen when I hit the high beam switch with these Morimotos? It’s a brave new world in headlight tech. I and my ride are Dinosaurs, that need some better lighting! Thanks for your vid
@@toddbridges7430 If it is wired for a factory dual filament H4 bulb, it should work the same on the Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 H4 replacement, which also has 2 set of LED chips. You can see them at the 4:06 mark.
It is easier for me to measure the difference compared to stock using a projector. It is almost twice what stock H11 is at initial, and then still over 150% brightness over stock after average US commute time of 27 minutes.
I wish I had the capacity to test that, but I don't drive that much. :) I've tested a variety of lights and I see many that are bright and have a decent beam pattern for the money. The question you ask is a valid one because at that point comes down to quality of materials and engineering...how well it can handle the heat cycles over a long period of time. That's where a good warranty can come into play as well.
Seems too me all your gonna be doing is rotating hot air which will mean loss in power efficiency and life span. If the bulb exhaust hot air near the chips then that would mean the heat is being trapped inside the light housing. That would mean the intake side of the bulb is just pulling in that hot air and the fan just pushes the air to the other side out the exhaust right??
The design is so the hot air is circulated into the back of the unit, where some of the heat is radiated off via the heat sink fins, cooling the air a bit before it cycles it back into the capsule.
@@InJasonsGarage Yeah either way I'm definitely getting a pair. I run the GTR Ultra2 at the moment and while they are bright I feel as though they are not as focus. Also I lost that color flicker along the cut off line which I believe is a sign of less focus. My wife runs the SV4 they are pretty and pretty powerful she loves em.
Yes, that is an unfortunate aspect of LED lights, after they heat up they lose some brightness. The better the heat efficiency, the less the drop will be. FYI...HIDs can also begin to dim over time as well.
How stupid it pulls air in and exhausts it in the same sealed chamber it sits in, so essentially it will just keep getting hotter and hotter as it sucks air back in that it just exhausted 🙄
That's right. It keeps doing that until it is as hot as the sun.🤣 Notice the heat sink on the back? It draws the heat out of the air passing through it.
That might be true...I forgot about them. I am not saying you are incorrect, but how do you know? I checked and I saw they use the word "automotive-grade" but I didn't see that they were using chips specifically designed for forward lighting.
@@InJasonsGarage I know they are using the osram chip I cannot think of the model number I will have to look it up. But I currently use the sylvania and it is quite impressive and on point as far as beam pattern. After trying so many chinese knock offs I decided to go name brand. I figured I'd say something as not alot of people know that sylvania and Phillip's make automotive headlight bulbs at about 100 bucks a pair.
@@satan3090 That's a pretty good point. I even sorta stopped thinking about them because there are so many choices out there. I should get my hands on them and test them.
It is true, both sylvania and Phillips offer leds for cars, but that they do not have a automotive specific led chip. These morimotos have a osram chip designed 100% for automotive use, they are designed to replicate a halogen bulb. That does not make these the brightest and in some cases not even the best option but that doesn’t change the fact that these and the gtr ultra 2 are one of the only lights actually running automotive designed led chips
When the hot air passes through the back to the unit (outside of the headlight housing), the heatsink fins radiate the heat away, and then the cooler air circulates back in. See the 3:42 section. An easy way to think of this is a similar comparison to a standard car's coolant circulation system.
This being a close system, wouldn’t the heat being constantly generated then trapped in the liens cover eventually become hot enough to not able to sufficiently cool the pcb anymore?
I actually have both the DDM Saber Pro and Saber Pro X on my workbench, in line to be tested (stay tuned!). Why do you think they will outperform the Morimoto?
@@borislavtodorov6191 Both DDM gen 1 and gen 2 bulbs failed in my eyes. It had a good light pattern but not a strong enough hotspot for my H7 Halogen Projectors, honestly they were just a tad brighter than Katana LEDs. I bought the Lumibright XT1 Gen 2 and holy hell the difference was amazing. The light pattern was great, similar to DDM but the hotspot was concentrated and significantly brighter than DDM. Stay away from Morimoto I've had trouble with my 2 stroke 2.0s , just the run around from this company ,advising its the sellers responsibility for warranty claim,BUYER BEWARE because apparently they do fail but they will not step up and do the right thing and warrant there defective products
@@stevelindsay4034 Again, sorry to hear. They have a 3-year warranty, but I checked and as you mentioned, is up to the dealer to handle. This is not uncommon, though. Many times (especially in the automotive aftermarket industry) manufacturers specify that in order to be a dealer of their products, the dealer must also handle customer service, warranty issues, tech support, etc. Did you contact Josar Supply?
That's a bummer. Yeah, it seems to be rather limited in size at this time. I'd reach out to Headlight Revolution and see if they know if more sizes are coming.
If that is the only thing wrong with me, I am doing pretty darn good. 😁 There's enough boring videos out there and I try not to drag things out. Thanks for the feedback!
Nope! I tested this light the exact same way I test other lights and I do not adjust the outcome in any direction for any reason including any form of compensation, personal feelings, or otherwise. This is why I show exactly how I test and how anyone can replicate my tests.
Haha! Absolutely nothing. I do not take any form of payment in exchange for a positive review or false recommendation. Some do, but I don't. You'd be shocked at how many companies hit me up, wanting me to review their product and offer to pay for a positive review. I flatly decline both. My opinions are 100% my own and I can't be bought off like that.
Unfortunately, they do not without modification to the dust cover. I checked in my own 2020 Colorado. The measurement of the heat exchanger length from the closest side of the collar to the end is to be 34mm. According to my measurements, the Diode Dynamics SL1 is 25.5 mm for the same measurement, and it _does_ fit. See this video for more info: ua-cam.com/video/6QPalSfnDZY/v-deo.html

3 and 9 is the proper orientation unless it is in a reflector with an angled design...which is less common.
The PMW CANbus harness can not solved this problem? You can contact the morimoto for help I think.

I’ve got 2.0s in alpha Rex projector housings and I’ve never had better visibility at night with other LED’s or HIDS. Also they aren’t blindingly bright. I would only recommend LEDs in projector housing, reflector housings are just too bright and blinding on the road even after adjustment
I have these in my AlphaRex and they suck

Hey Jason, great review, however just an FYI, the packing reads bulbs and there is only one bulb per box. Very misleading from the manufacture and when purchasing online.
You are right, it sure does. Glad I made sure to show that it is one bulb per box in my video.
I got these on my vette and denali, the best!
For some reason mine wouldn’t move when I pressed on them. But still ended up pointing the way I needed them too
My H11 are a pain, I can't get it to be consistent. I tried pulling, pushing, just twisting, it won't lock unless it's turned to the stop of the adjustment mechanism and then trying to adjust just unlocks it from the base.
Hi. Great video, thanks.
Can you do some tests with LEDs with internal driver ?
My first LED light review was one with an internal driver. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/7yD-y1Yrr5Y/v-deo.html. It did very well, but as I learned more and tested more, I found that I personally don't prefer them as they can't manage heat as effectively as lights with external drivers. They are great if you have extremely confined spaces to work with, but overall, if you have the room, use one with an external driver. See more here: ua-cam.com/play/PLq79AIsMUwnctCbimt--Y0DGrdkJpp_fu.html
I would like to try a good set of LEDs but I think at this point in time, HID is still the better option.
Hid has a full beam without dead spots . I want to try a good led if there’s ever a good one .

There are still gaps around the projector. I don't believe projectors are completely sealed. I could be wrong.

Not sure if this is still active but I’ve got a 2017 Pilot. I’d like to start with replacing my low beams. Prefer white over yellow but can i use fog light bulbs? Also, do I need an anti flicker device?
I'd suggest that in addition to this video, you check out my other channel that I made dedicated to tests like this. www.carlightreviews.com
There is quite the blurred line between what an LED headlight bulb and an LED fog light bulb is.

These good for low beams in the c6?
Awesome !, 😊
Thanks 🤗
I do my research before I test to see what the published number is per light and then mention the actual number according to my testing (which is now done on www.carlightreviews.com) 😁
See the 0:21 mark on the power supply I use and I calculate the wattage by multiplying the volts times the amps.
I wish to upgrade my lights for my 1996 Lincoln Town car, but an LEd that will give flicker on my low beam runnings lights here in Canada, again thank you
Did I miss the heat measurement?
You must be a subscriber of my other channel, @carlightreviews. Nope, you didn't miss it. I made this video before I started that other channel...and before I did thermal testing of LED headlight upgrades.
Doesn't look like they do, according to their web site. But maybe reach out to them and explain the situation, they may have a solution.
What do you mean by DRL is for non-US markets only? Are the US versions of the product lacking this feature?
Yes, but I am unsure why. The exact wording the Morimoto web site is _"Note that the DRL-Drive function is only for use in non-US markets."_
Thanks for mentioning the show, it was a lot of fun over the years.
@@InJasonsGarage For the HID installation, I did the dust cap modification shown on the ColoradoFans forum with some inexpensive black plastic sewer caps from Menards - worked well and looks acceptable too. I have plenty of room after the modification. Are you on that forum? Here's a link to the trials and tribulations I went through: www.coloradofans.com/threads/morimoto-hid-system-from-the-retrofit-source.384457/#post-4858841 I ended up using the GEN5DYI harness to move the DRLs to the turn signal bulbs. Before the HIDs, I was obsessed with finding an LED headlight bulb that worked very well with the projectors. They were bright, but lacked the hotspots needed for distance. It looks like the Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 might have solve that. I may end up getting them for the high beams.
@@williamrankin2299 Man...there's GOTTA be a better way to extend the dust caps cleanly. I see that there's some people who did 3D printing but didn't go well.

They are whiter. Check the comparison at the 8:06 mark.
good info
Glad you think so!
You need to review the lasfit led bulb for highlander
They make a few different styles. Which one?
When the air in the headlight housing heats out wouldn’t the bulb just be circulating hot air.
My Honda 2010 Civic uses its DRLs for the high beams. Will these switch to high beam when I need it?
That's a solid question. I am going to assume that if they are offered in your size, they function correctly. However, you should confirm with Morimoto to be sure.
Does the H7 have the push again and twist to align the led chips left and right?
I think that is the H11 only...but I am not 100% positive.

It sounds like the Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 is a better bulb, than the GTR Lighting Ultra 2. Can aftermarket leds outperform an OEM HID xenon low beam bulb?
Funny you should ask that! I have been wondering myself. I was thinking of upgrading projectors in my Colorado and I'd have to go to HID. I think it depends on the combination of projector housing quality and of course, HID bulb and ballast quality.
For the moment no, LEDs need to overcome their main issue: dimming down when it heats up. I'd say we are getting closer with each new generation of LEDs being brighter and having a well researched effective heatsink. But we are ways away from HID quality. I can't wait when LEDs get that far though !

Following this review (and others) I was tempted to purchase these lights. But what a disappointment especially their clarity. Visibility at night is hardly better than with the original halogen lights. Even my half-defect SNGLs (55W) give more light. Really a waste of money!

They ignite normally but give way too little brightness for me and the width of the beam may also be a bit more, compared to my previous even half working (defective) SNGLs (6200 Lm/55 Watt each - I think the less power, the less brightness).

8:11 c'mon dude, what is the lux difference?
It is easier for me to measure the difference compared to stock using a projector. It is almost twice what stock H11 is at initial, and then still over 150% brightness over stock after average US commute time of 27 minutes.
@@InJasonsGarage What about after 6 months 5-6 hours of driving everyday? Will they work at 150% or will be closer to stock?
So after short ti,e the LED efficiency will drop to low output!
Ok! No thank you, I will stay with my HID projector fog lights.
It keeps doing that until it is as hot as the sun.🤣
Notice the heat sink on the back? It draws the heat out of the air passing through it.
Good for projectors lights bad for halogen
Do you mean bad for reflectors? If so, how?
Sylvania and Phillip's use automotive specific leds
That might be true...I forgot about them. I am not saying you are incorrect, but how do you know? I checked and I saw they use the word "automotive-grade" but I didn't see that they were using chips specifically designed for forward lighting.
@@InJasonsGarage I know they are using the osram chip I cannot think of the model number I will have to look it up.
@@305ANDUP they use the same model chip number
It makes no sense for the fan to blow the hot air from the heatsink directly on the LEDs. That's going to shorten their life.
@@op3l Probably. That's why I left the dust covers off my headlight housings so the fans on the back of my LED bulbs blow the hot air outside.
