- This video provides a basic introduction to nether travel as it relates to speedrunning. I discuss the concepts and methods associated with both blind travel and educated travel. I try to explain things in a way that makes sense to a broad audience.
I reference information and works from the following videos and/or content creators:

just asking, is divine travel a combination of blind and educated travel?
Divine travel is a specific way of identifying where to build your portal back to the over world based on having a fossil in the 0,0 nether chunk. Each fossil type has a specific base block. Using the X value of the base block and referencing a chart, you’ll be given coordinates to build your portal. Generally speaking, divine travel will land you much closer to the stronghold than normal blind travel.
@@boomerplayz7086 That's interesting. Fossil formation is related to stronghold generation? Thanks for the explanation.
@@msapnetead3140 Yes, Matthew Bolan, who is nothing short of a genius, discovered this. I don’t know all the details, but I believe similar code was used to place fossils in the nether as is used for strongholds in the overworld. Bolan’s UA-cam Channel has videos about this and other highly technical topics. Several others have posted videos about this as well; however, I may try to cover this in the future. Thanks!
@@msapnetead3140 its because the generation math breaks when zero is involved, which allows a knowledgeable player to exploit that and find the direction that the stronghold/s are in. Divine travel will, at its absolute worst, give you a ~700 block blind, but in most cases it will be around half of that, essentially guaranteeing a really really good blind. I guess you could call it educated travel, because it really isn’t blind at that point, but then it would be confusing to talk about because of how regular educated travel works
