  • Bach - Musette from Anna Magdalena's Notebook. SF Christo, harpsichord.
Since I can't change dynamics on the harpsichord, I used different articulations for the octave basses throughout the piece. A Musette is a relative of the bagpipe.
Single manual Italian harpsichord by William Dowd, Boston, 1967. Tuning: Kellner.
Your harpsichord questions may be answered in my video "Harpsichord 101. How it works".

Vielen Dank. Es ist natürlich die Musik von Ihrer Kultur, aber der Rest der Welt liebt es auch. (Thank you. It is of course the music of your cutlure, but the rest of the world seems to love it as well.)

Hello Dolofonos, I tune my harpsichords. It is a shame for me to admit that I have never mastered tuning my clavichord and still need to call other people to do it. For the harpsichords I use unequal tunings such as: Kellner (most of the time) or Kirnberger III sometimes. I use a chromatic tuner that has these systems in it and produce a tone which I match for the middle octave and then tune the rest by ear.

@SEVENTHSON89 Thank you. I'll give the same tip that everyone has always given me:
Practice slowly, with metronome, each hand by itself for a long time at first. This is seems to a method that works from the most simple pieces upwards into Scriabin Etudes.

1:24 I noted a nice ornament you added. I also wonder, what are acceptable ornaments (if any) to play on this piece?
I love baroque, I love bach, I love harpsichord, and I looooove ornaments :D

Hi Carl. Sorry for the late late reply. I heard a recording of Ton Koopman playing this. He adds some wonderful ornaments. And it being him, they are all most likely historically appropriate.

I love this piece! So much fun to play and hear!
is the tempo too slow? I am preparing this piece to perform on harpsichord in May. (It will only be my 2nd time ever playing harpsichord, so I am looking for some guidance and advice.)
    Peace!

How'd it go? I'm sure it could be played more quickly. I bet I was being cautious.

@Cathryn1962 But then I might get all caught up in it and not make more music videos.
