It’s good to know that many (if not all) artists struggle with motivation sometimes. I do too - usually I push trough it as well. It helps me to just start and believe in myself but if I feel a lack of motivation for a longer period of time I like to take a break and relax for a couple of hours. Usually I’m super motivated after that to get back to my desk and draw :)
Loooove your outlook on motivation! Just do it (Nike) but for real when I’m making art I’m motivated like 40% of the time. There are so many days where I have to just start making something and trust in my skills. I find that quick decision making is key for me, overthinking is one of my worst enemies when it comes to motivation. Drawing every day this past year has definitely helped me deal with being unmotivated and I feel like you put a lot of what I’ve learned in this video 💕✨👌💖
yess! speedy decision making is ley - rocket read a book that said it takes us 5 seconds to talk ourselves out of something so you should juml into things within that time
Honestly, my biggest motivation is artists like you! I love seeing other ideas and styles, which make me motivated to experiment and continue working towards creating art I can be proud of :D
i think having a separation between your home/relaxation environment and work environment is also very important in getting work done. when i'm in the computer lab working on projects for class, i'm way more productive then when i'm at home and still in my pajamas because i'm more inclined to procrastinate with food, netflix, or sleeping. i'm also surrounded by other people who are working on projects as well and that is another source of motivation for me. if you work from home i think it's good to have an a room reserved as office/studio space or even just a desk. also remember to take breaks and stretch and drink water. i don't believe in art block, but i do believe in burn out. it's okay to take a day or two off every once in a while to prevent that. i might make a video on this topic as well, thanks for the inspiration sha'an! beautiful work as always
Can I just say that your videos are my thing for when I'm unmotivated? Like I've kept this video as a gift for myself until I'm in a non-motivated mood, and then I just sit at my desk, listen to your video and start painting. It helps me so much!
Motivation is something deep inside. It’s a fire, right in the gut. It’s learned, not something you’re born with, but it can’t be taught. It’s up to the individual, to learn that strength, the grit, the mental toughness.
When I feel blergh and not motivated I watch your videos - or someone else who inspires me - for 10 mins and it pretty much always leaves me feeling more motivated to create something 💚
Only halfway through the video but I just have to tell you that every time I watch one of your videos they always make me happy and make me feel warm and fuzzy inside
THIS COMES AT A PERFECT TIME. I‘ve been feeling so unmotivated lately and now I also have a cold which just makes everything worse. I personally love watching videos by others who get stuff done, it almost always gets me in that motivational and inspired mood.
Loved this - thought having different opinions & mindsets at the end was so interesting! I am part of the creature-comforts-perfect-work-environment club. Which means that chocolate & tea are my motivation most days!
Do one on the topic of inspiration and maybe your relationship with procrastination or creativity? I feel like they would be an interesting thing to talk about. Love ya xx
I recently started drawing. Being a beginner at something taught me a lot about how I approach things I’ve been doing for longer, where I have higher expectations of myself. If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut and you’re not growing or improving, I really recommend taking up something new or dusting off something you’ve neglected for a while - it’ll remind you what it looks like when you’re learning, and how to be excited about things again. I’ve been able to take my lessons from learning to draw, which I’ve been doing a few months, and apply them to music, which I’ve been doing for 24 years, and it’s changed everything. Sometimes you just have to take a side road to remind yourself you’re still going forwards.
love the encouraged conversation format of you developing a former QnA's topic into a more in-depth video were all kinds of comments, both affirmative but also opposite of your own personal opinion are shown and then discussed even more. it's awsome. Go PEACH!
This couldn't have come at a better time, I have law exams to revise for all month and as the video progressed, I got into real people's clothes (as opposed to pyjamas) and so far it's been really productive. Thank you, Peach x
I definitely agree that sometimes when motivation is hiding somewhere you just need to go and look for it. Downtime is good when you have a burn out, but perseverance during art block is what works for me. :) Your newsletters are amazing by the way and a perfect sun beam in the middle of the month.
I love that you included discussion and ideas from your viewers because it makes it feel so much more interactive!! I personally find a lot of motivation when I have others give feedback on my work whether it's positive or negative because it prompts a response from me to either to keep going or to go improve something!
this helped me so much, I've lately been having trouble with my songwriting due to lack of motivation, but somehow watching this has just boosted me, IM OFF TO WRITE!!! Also, as weird as it sounds, motivational quotes sometimes help, my notebook says "start somewhere" and that reminds me that just as long as I make a start, I feel good about getting something done
YES! I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW! I haven’t drawn in days so I’m super glad that you posted this. I’ve been super busy with school and when I get home I just rest. This piece is supppeeerrr pretty!
Yep - watched it all the way :)! I'm a profession artist so my process for staying motivated could be a little different but could still be applicable - I like to change up my medium - I mainly work in oils but at times either try a new medium and I also switch back and forth from what I call "form" and "flat" paintings - the form paintings I have a strong light source (usually set up a still life outside my studio window) and with my "form" paintings I'm playing more with pattern, color and texture. These things help me stay fresh and motivated! Thanks for sharing - love your videos!
mel robbins gave me hugeee ahah moment..she said if theres something we need to do but dont want to our brain kicks in about 3-5 seconds after we think about to protect us. it naturally protects us from uncomfortable stressful things so then we ‘procrastinate’. ..sooo what we need to do is get up and do it in those first 1-5 seconds before that kicks in! helps too especially for getting up in the morning instead of hitting snooze - we can count down 5,4,3,2,1 & just get up☺️💜😉easy to say but harder to do but we can do it☺️
Every time I find it hard to get work done, I just watch this video. Thank you, Furry Little Peach! You have no idea how much impact your videos have done. Love from the Philippines, Ana Lu
I'm known for being a scatter brain and getting easily distracted so often it's not so much a lack of motivation more so a feeling completely overwhelmed by the tasks at hand. Check lists, brain dumps and mind mapping help so much. I feel like once it's on paper it's something tangible and as harmless as a grocery list. I loved all the different approaches to a problem that's all to common. As always loved the video.
uneventful life of monikah Yes! I feel the same - and once its on paper you dont feel anxious that you might forget it so you dont run around in circles in your head!
I really needed this video. I went from being the most motivated I've been in my art in months to completely down and out in art and life in general. Thank you for sharing, I'm sure I'll be referring back to it again! 💕
You know what, ur such a good illustrator.. I wish i can talk freely like you. Very confident in front of camera. I also learn a lot form you.. Thank you for ur inspiration.
I totally agree on writing and checking off your to do list! I personally love bullet journaling (the simple one, not the scrapbook look) Yeahh Just do it! I love your videos
This helped me so much!! Especially the discipline and safe space parts, I worry sometimes that pushing myself to sculpt even when I don't feel like it might make art more of a chore, but that helped ease my mind! The safe space is an incredible tip because my new year's resolution was to get more into 2d art and obviously since I'm new I'm not that good which is a bit weird because you can be so good at one medium and do it for years but be beginner level on another! But I know from sculpting the more you do it the more you learn, and if I hate something I can flip that page over and not show anyone or look at it again and move on to create something else :) I love your channel and how real and down to earth you are, and your asthetic is so nice?? Ahh, teach me your ways!
I barely ever comment but because of your request and how much I enjoyed this video: I love how this video is organized and if you discussed other topics that would be very interesting & entertaining
You inspired me to get an iPad and I’m absolutely in love with it. I’m you don’t use it much at least in your videos but what I saw I loved. I’m working on a short animation while watching your videos because they motivate me! Thank you for great content
this video was honestly so inspiring! and every time I'm not motivated I love watching your videos and drawing videos in general! it's like drawing with a friend
I think it's so awesome that you take the time to share with us the many perspectives of motivation and work. I've always enjoied how honest you are with those who follow you. I love the topic video I would absolutely watch more like it. Gives me the feel that i'm joining a group discussion and spending time with you! Watching your videos is one of the best parts of my week!
YES! This is exactly my thoughts on motivation! Waiting for motivation kept me out of the art game for almost five years because I hoped it would just come back to me one day. It was only when I started pushing through my fears and anxieties that I began to get the ball rolling again. Motivation/inspiration is a fleeting bird. What you said is 100% spot on. Discipline, discipline, discipline! Also, I enjoyed this format of video. I'd love to see more of these!
Love the video! And really good topic to talk about - motivation and feeling like your work isnt going anywhere. I sketch when I feel no motivation to make a large finished piece and keep going even if I think the piece is horrible. Often just working on the piece is a process to get you to another level, and if it turns out great and then motivation and reward kicks in!
THANK YOU for this video! I'm working on knitting a blanket and have been putting it off for weeks. I needed this video for that kick in the butt to get to work
Loved watching this! it was awesome to not only hear your opinion but everyone else's opinion as well, i always find if i go out into nature and just be present with it, it helps me to find motivation to draw and paint. :) Also, i loved the illustration you were doing in the video.
I think a big issue for us newbie artists too, is that the artists we look up to on UA-cam/Instagram/etc all post pics/videos of their best work, or work that's maybe mediocre but it's not (a lot of the time) the raw, fleshing out process. We don't often see raw sketchbooks, so we're also nervous to do anything in our own sketchbooks in case it doesn't look as good (which it won't, because what we think is their "raw sketchbook" is actually just a collection of their favourite pieces)... We don't often get a good picture of how the process works. We throw ourselves in the deep end and drown before we get a chance to learn how to paddle. :)
I watched it till the end, Sha'an! Really love your perspective on it and, yes, I do believe that motivation isn't something that falls on you from the heavens. I think I read a proverb/quote somewhere that goes something like this: "Motivation has to see you working to come to you." And I wholeheartedly believe in it! Also, new topic idea: how to deal with the demons inside our heads that are saying we're not good enough/comparing ourselves with other artists.
Hey Sha’an I agree with what your are saying about posting stuff.I’ve also experienced an overwhelming reaction to stuff I’ve put out when I thought hmm...should I even put this up.Love your vlogs and art
Im so in love with your stuff! I’ve watched your channel religiously since the drawing video with rocket, and your content and artistic talent just amaze me ! I seriously aspire to be as talented as you one day
Yaaass, I always start my to-do lists w/ super easy tasks or things I've already done & can check them off straight away. lol. Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for this video, & showing us that you are practicing what you preach, Peach! 🍑 (not that anyone doubted that, but it's nice to see it 😙)
I would love to hear you talk about comparing yourself to other artists. I’m a first-year graphic design student and as being creative has always been a passion of mine I still find myself comparing myself to others. Then feeling like I’m not good enough or capable of doing graphic design as a career
Loved this video and I really enjoyed seeing your outlook on motivation along with everyone else's. It's definitely something I'm struggling with at the moment. I get really effected by the weather, so with the past 2 months being really grey and dreary in England, it's really made me not want to do anything but hide away and sleep. But actually, seeing other people create stuff motivates me a lot! And seeing this video has helped kick me in the butt, so thanks Sha'an, I'm gonna go draw now! (Ps. I loved your painting in the beginning of the video!!)
Loved the piece you did it’s so beautiful! My gosh I needed this video so much! Am currently working on a children’s book and am very frustrated with creating scenes and storyboards, thank you so much for sharing other peoples’ thoughts and opinions, motivation is very important because it affects the flow of work and the quality of it too, for me coffee and good music and a tidy space of course are enough to get my engines started! Thanks again!!!! Love your vids!
children's book can be a toughie and a long one but I try to visualise the end result, the final artwork, the books on shelves, launch night! really helps me+ x x x
thank you so much for this video, I loved it so much! not waiting for motivation or inspiration helped me so much in becoming more consistent with creating art and just getting down to it whenever I can. planning stuff out visually, getting your concept down on paper, making mind maps etc. helps so much too, just as you said! loved your comments and advice as well as other people's input, so cool that you decided to include a segment like that, I feel like I learnt a lot. much love to you sha'an xxx
i don't know/speak english very well but i love your videos and a try a lot understand what you are saying!! and I just want say that I admire you and your art very much, because you are a very sweet and inspiring person. (I might have used the translator to write this)
For me, working despite lack of motivation has been an ongoing learning process where I'm continually unlocking new pieces of information that have helped me. I took part in Inktober for the first time last year; hearing quite a few people say that they didn't make it through their first time, my stubbornness forced me to complete all 31 days on time. So I think setting a temporary challenge, especially one that people knew I was doing, really upped the accountability factor. I've also noticed that if I just overthink about a piece of work without putting pencil to paper, I can waste hours compared to jumping straight into the practical application. Often the overthinking will destroy ideas before I even start because I've looped back around to detrimental thoughts. And lastly, I like to work on multiple things at a time if I can. I find that if I have art at different stages, I can still be productive even if I'm not "in the mood" to do a specific thing. I might not feel up to painting, but I am up to cleaning something else in photoshop. Speaking of which, that's exactly what I was doing while I listened to this video : D
Yeaaahh I loved this type of video!! What about a video on having confidence in your work or understanding everyone is different? Sometimes I forget that there is a place in the world for my art and I keep comparing it to other people’s work. Then I stop working :(
I just need this video right now.. I’m in an artist block just exactly when a new task has been given to me.. 😱 I’m not satisfied with my designs atm.. what’s worst my deadline is in 3 days.. haha 😵 I’m not supposed to be watching youtube videos right now, but I’m glad I did. I think I needed a short break, still not motivated to design anything, but your video really gives alot of good vibes! 💕 Take care always and keep up the awesome work! 😘
Loved this video! I graduated with a degree in hand embroidery around the middle of last year and I haven't done any work since then! I have felt so unmotivated and scared that I've got nothing left. But this video has really helped. Tomorrow is the day! I will sit down and I WILL do something! Even if that is to make a productive work space. Thank you! (ps.i think your work is pretty neat!!!!)
chelsea knobloch yay!!! i dont want to be stagnant, but im also so worried that people will hate the new things I introduce! so releived people like it!
furrylittlepeach that's totally understandable! If it's any help, people follow and like your content because it's something that you've produced and represents a part of you and as long as you make it true to yourself and what you like, then your followers will like it too as it's part of you c:
This was great, I love your practical approach to motivation! I'm sitting here procrastinating finishing the pencils for my comic, I've only got 6 pages of 58 left but for some reason these last pages are the hardest 😑 It's great to hear a discussion between creative people on how to get shit done, listening to people acknowledge that it's not always easy but if you show up and do the work it'll still get done was hugely helpful for something like a comic. I've been working on the pencils in my free time around my day job and its the kind of project that takes a long time, so relying on that initial surge of exciting creative "yes this is gonna be great!" energy isn't realistic. I use daily quotas (like today I only need to pencil 2 pages because I only have a little bit of time) to push myself to keep. going, and then I have a page in my planner that tracks my progress, so when I get to colour in a little circle that represents a page it keeps me motivated and lets me look back on how much I've done already. Looking at the bigger picture helps as well, whenever I flip through the pencilled pages so far and see how they come together I get hugely motivated to make more and finish the comic. Anyway thank you for making such a thoughtful and well put-together video about this, it was defs a great way to start a day (and sorry for the long comment, I just have a lot of feelings lmao).
I loved this! Sha’an please talk about inspiration. What are your go to’s for finding new artists or ideas? Do you go to museums? Browse online? Read art books? ❤️
I totall agree with you, got motivated by watching your video. I started to set a challenge for myself, so i have to work on my illustratori for X hour a day, and i found that i get more motivated by it, because i can se progress in my work, and sometime it just the start that is hard, when i started something, i usally can work on it longer that i expected. It was nice to se your take on motivation.
i have come to watch your video or some of your videos because Shelby, Little Coffee Fox strongly recommended you and your art projects. Plus this sounded interesting ! Always looking for ways to break the procrastination bug when it bites.
Thank you for always making the most wonderful inspiring videos, I feel like motivation is something everyone struggles with a lot so all these tips really help !!
Everytime you're posting a video, I'm so excited ! Your videos are so inspiring, it gives me so much joy ! Love your style ! Liked this little different video too. For the next theme : inspiration ?
You cutie 💕 How did you know I needed this today x
Minnie Small so happy Minnie - hope it helps you in the studio! x x x

better to cultivate discipline than to rely on motivation.
Splitleaf amen

Leigh Ellexson omggggg when there are two of my favorite artists supporting each other 😍😍😭😍😍😍❤️🤤🤤🤤🤤
@@dianestorland I totally agree! so nice to see these two talk :)

this is such a good one - and it can make working and living in the same space really hard!
The painting is beautiful! MORE OF THESE!!! Next topic could be about finding your art style if it’s doable ☺️ it would be super helpful!!
Can I just say that your videos are my thing for when I'm unmotivated? Like I've kept this video as a gift for myself until I'm in a non-motivated mood, and then I just sit at my desk, listen to your video and start painting. It helps me so much!

Reminds me of a quote I saw a while back! "If the muse shows up late to work, start without her." Loved the video! Can't wait to see more!
thats a good quote too!! 💛💛

Literally loved this video- I’m in medical school and I found this to be very helpful. Thank you!

right before inktober, i really needed this! thank you sha'an :-')
Sha’an! The first video I found of yours was the Productivity vid- I loved it! And this one was great too. Love the discussion intention
Also, i loved the illustration you were doing in the video.
This couldn't of come at a better time! I'm definitely lacking motivation at the moment with my studio work
like the style...good advice too
I watched it till the end, Sha'an!
Hey Sha’an I agree with what your are saying about posting stuff.I’ve also experienced an overwhelming reaction to stuff I’ve put out when I thought hmm...should I even put this up.Love your vlogs and art
love this video set up!! I would love if you made a video about finding your own style.
Im so in love with your stuff!
I’ve watched your channel religiously since the drawing video with rocket, and your content and artistic talent just amaze me ! I seriously aspire to be as talented as you one day
love love LOVE this style of video. everything you said was so well articulated and spot on
Thanks for the video, made me feel good at the very beginning of my day ❤️
I enjoyed this very much! Also very timely. I need to work.on that list immediately!
Yaaass, I always start my to-do lists w/ super easy tasks or things I've already done & can check them off straight away. lol. Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for this video, & showing us that you are practicing what you preach, Peach! 🍑 (not that anyone doubted that, but it's nice to see it 😙)
LOVE this topic-based discussion format! Thanks for putting this together
Anna Elise Teresa pleasure!!!!! I'm so relieved that you like it - it's always scary trying new things!!!
the whole subtask thing is a really good idea, thanks sha'an !!
try it - I'm sure it will help!
I really love the painting. I definitely would love to buy this as a print too!!
Mya Coolio thanks so much! Haven't decided if i'll do anything with it yet 🤔
I would love to hear you talk about comparing yourself to other artists. I’m a first-year graphic design student and as being creative has always been a passion of mine I still find myself comparing myself to others. Then feeling like I’m not good enough or capable of doing graphic design as a career
Yass!! I needed this video!! You never fail to inspire and motivate me thank you! :D
I love this video. This is my third time watching it and it helps so much! Thanks for your videos, Sha'an!
Love this video, specially because you made it a space for discuss
I WANT this print!
Realy good motivation insight.
Yes! I like this format, any video you post is golden so keep doing what ya wanna do :)
Jillianfosho 😍😍😍 yay!
I REALLY needed this video today! Thank you!!! I’m feeling motivated now 💪🏼💙
Yay - I'm so glad!!! x x x x go do something awesome!
That witch print is amazingggggg?!!
Also I really like how you begin the video, this was so different from usual, I looooooved it :) !!!
thank you so much for this video, I loved it so much! not waiting for motivation or inspiration helped me so much in becoming more consistent with creating art and just getting down to it whenever I can. planning stuff out visually, getting your concept down on paper, making mind maps etc. helps so much too, just as you said! loved your comments and advice as well as other people's input, so cool that you decided to include a segment like that, I feel like I learnt a lot. much love to you sha'an xxx
i don't know/speak english very well but i love your videos and a try a lot understand what you are saying!! and I just want say that I admire you and your art very much, because you are a very sweet and inspiring person.
(I might have used the translator to write this)
I watched it all the way! It was interesting and I got some good ideas from it on how to get/stay motivated!
Then I stop working :(
Courtney J you have your own unique creative voice - you have things to say in a way that only you can! 💛
Perfect! Such an incredible video! Love the editing. 😻
Thanks liam! you're always so sweet 💛💛
I really liked this style! The mix up really keeps your content interesting:))))
chelsea knobloch yay!!! i dont want to be stagnant, but im also so worried that people will hate the new things I introduce! so releived people like it!
furrylittlepeach that's totally understandable!
I love the sub-task idea. I'll have to try that.
its definitely one of my favie productivity techniques!!
I loved this!
Sha’an please talk about inspiration. What are your go to’s for finding new artists or ideas? Do you go to museums? Browse online? Read art books?
❤️
all of the above - but most of my inspiration comes from the real world and from movies! 😍
Thank you for this video 💙
Loved it! Thanks this really helped!
i have come to watch your video or some of your videos because Shelby, Little Coffee Fox strongly recommended you and your art projects. Plus this sounded interesting ! Always looking for ways to break the procrastination bug when it bites.
