I'd love to hear what you all think about how I rank these devices, but remember we are only talking about E-Ink tablets! So be fun and be kind! I can't wait to bring you more content comparing the latest and greatest E-Ink Tablets. Check out the reMarkable Paper Pro at their website: remarkable.pxf.io/m5emoO And the Boox Go 10.3: US & HK shop.boox.com/products/go103?ref=0t1qqbSDWLMb UK and EU euroshop.boox.com/products/boox-go-10-3?ref=my_f5MKKrpQRge&variant=43732418822344 And next, let's do a head to head between reMarkable and Boox! Are you up for that!? (These are affiliate links and so I receive a small commission from sales made through them. There is no extra cost to you. There was no payment to be featured in any particular spot in this list. Thanks for supporting the channel!)
I think for this to work You have to put the remarkable, The Kindle scribe, supernotes or other devices that are strictly note-taking/reading without an app store in one category. And any e-ink you can (at least theoretically) play a video on in a different category. You can cross the categories when you start talking about " if can only get one device". I don't even notice yellow staining It's gone and a page flip or too. Although a full refresh gesture has been needed on these devices forever.
@@KitBetts-Masters You could make it as a to dimensional graph with the x being "just digital paper" (the distraction free end, but since some get very distracted by the color refresh of RMPP it is probably not good to use distraction free as the label) to "fully featured tablet", and the y axis going from bad to excellent (with whatever you want to put into the evaluation: software, hardware, customer service, other stuff), and limit the total number of contestants to ten or fifteen so the graph doesn't get to crowded. That way you could put the reMarkable type to the far left, then things with more complex software, then with side loading (so you would move Supernote a bit to the right when it got side loading), and the Boox type tablets to the far right. That would make it possible to judge them more from what type of unit they are trying to be and more clearly rank them in regards to their real competition. At least in my opinion, if a customer has decided what use cases he want the tablet for, he most likely has ruled out either the reMarkable or the Boox device because they target so different use cases.
*I agree, the fork in the road makes it difficult to justify reviewing them as a single group.* Personally, I'd throw them all in one great list then add each their attributes and category, after which you could search by attribute and/or category to reveal much. I used to build databases, but the search function in most spreadsheets would do just as well in this situation and the ever growing list could be a mainstay for all following reviews to reflect on past devices in all manner of ways depending on attributes added.
Your videos convinced me to take the (modest) plunge and spend £240 on a Kindle Scribe. Had it for a week now and it’s been awesome for note taking. Glad to see it’s not too dated and is still hanging on in your top ten. It feels like the best bang-for-your-buck
I finally a perfect device for me - I call it the Boox SuperNote Air 3C. It's a Frankenstein device: a Boox Note Air 3C that I stripped the matte screen protector off of and applied a Feel Write 2 layer I bought from Ratta to 😂 A lot of money and effort to get it that way, but it's spectacular
That 2 finger swipe to the side, creating more space, is borderline game changing. I had no idea it existed. It's as close as you can get to a split screen without actually implementing that.
I love and rely heavily on the organizational abilities (linking notes etc) of the Supernote, is it at all possible to achieve something similar on the Remarkable Pro?
Kit my man i watched about 40 videos of you comparing e ink tabs. I am currently between the 4c boox and the boox tab ultra c pro and the last 3c boox. I need to take all pdf annotations and notes at the same time eventually with a keyboard ofcourse
Thanks for this! I got the Boox Air Note 3C based on your recommendations and I’m loving it. I love the look and feel of the Go 10.3 though so will be holding out for a color version of that.
I enjoy these lists. In future reviews of it, you might consider whether any devices already on the list have changed positions before adding new devices in. Software updates, for instance, might cause devices already in the list to move up or down.
If one wanted to read, take basic notes IE with patients In clinic ( I'm a PA), AND be able to scan and organize bill documents etc, what would you recommend?
In your experience, which tablet (or platform) has the best (and second-best) automatic, real-time handwriting recognition, so that I can easily search all of my notes for specific words or phrases, without having to affirmatively trigger handwriting recognition? From what I've learned, it seems like the Supernote might be the best; but the only model presently available -- the A6 X2 Nomad -- is too small for my purposes.
I’m really looking for a great note taking / productivity e ink tablet (don’t need color though), no drawing skills here. What would be your recommendation specifically for that?
Can you recommend an e-ink (easy on the eyes) that’s best for note taking/ sketching and that can load and save notes to cloud platform such as iCloud or onedrive … one that won’t break the bank and yet be nice to note take. Thank you!
I've been using the Bigme highbreak which works fine, but isn't perfect. I think I might wait for their pro model which should be a lot better. I'm also trying the minimal phone soon which should ship in the near future. 🙂🤞
@@RosV-vn7dx I've tried both anyway. Yes there is an inverted highligher in the reading app. You can invert handwriting in the notes app, but you could write in white on top of black if you needed to. Cheers!
Make sense except for the Boox Go 10.3. Actually the lack of front light is a no go. It makes it impossible to use immediately the light is low: imagine in a dark room during a presentation or in a room with bad lights... The bw limitation is also a bad point. If it is the thickness, we talk about 1.2 mm of difference. The trading is not worth. Then
I don't disagree. I think in a way, I could just say a Boox 10.3" device is best, but which one, well that depends on the individual. It could be any device of four which suits you best, but for most people it's one of them.
RMPP is excellent. But. Frontlight should have been better. And needs better realtime OCR and an improved system like supernote for information management. They need to address the supernote style information management - or they will be bypassed once Ratta addresses the build quality of their supernote devices.
That yellow smearing and flashing, I donno... Software wise it's identical to reMarkable2 and if anything it feels more sluggish with all the flashing. Losing the EMR pen is also arguably a downgrade. I was hoping to be more excited about it, hopefully the reMarkable3 does more. They really need core features like full text search, ability to export highlights/tags, ability to link between pages, etc - even if these things are done on their companion app.
Considering a person who is going to buy a device right now, I would have shifted down in the ratings all Android 11 devices from Boox. They are still getting updates now (my NA2+ is on the latest firmware!) but I would not buy them in the present day. I agree with the removals, even with the A5X unfortunately since you can't buy it anymore. Still, for an average user I would still recommend the Scribe. Great pen feel, great tooling, very straightforward to use, has OCR on PDF exports (still an unique feature!), cheap and quite frequently on sale. I sometimes get the gear acquisition syndrome for it too lol
Have the Go 10.3 and Palma. Love the Palma, but the Go 10.3 has surprisingly exceeded my expectations. I’m still integrating it into my work flow but love that there are so many ways for me to write voice, handwritten typing and moving being able to have obsidian and calibre support has been wonderful.
Given the 'yellow stain' problem and the annoying flashing of the Remarkable Pro, I'm surprised you placed it as high as you did. Personally, I don't believe it should have made the top ten at all. I own the Note Air 3 C and just received the Go 10.3. I like the writing experience on the Go 10.3, but not at sure (at least not yet) that I would prefer it to the Note Air 3C. I bought it for the battery life, but the lack of a backlight is a bit of a problem. I prefer my home office lighting to be a bit dimmer than a brightly lit corporate office... but with the GO 10.3, I definitely have to turn on the overhead desk lamp to get enough light on the screen. That said, the writing and reading experience is excellent and you can't beat the price.
For my _'use-case'_ I couldn't put any of them above the A5X, not even the A6X2 *because of its glass screen.* That being the case, I have moved you one place down on my *_'Top Ten UA-cam Reviewers List',_* just under _'The Fundamental Goat-herder of Afghanistan'._ 🤔 To be honest, your list threw me for a while, I didn't know if it was ten high or low, it was only once I'd picked myself up off the floor after you'd dropped the A5X that I began to comprehend. Maybe it would've better to have first place [1] at the top, then running down to the 10th at the bottom? Interesting video, really speaks of how quick the e-ink market place has grown over the past few years, appreciated.
To me, remarkable is nr 1 for 2 reasons, it's Norwegian, and its the perfect size for my liking. It's new so of course there will be some limitations, but the people working with it answers fast and so far my issues have been solved. Gotta cherish the Norwegian brand, and the style does hold a nordic design feature over it.

I think it's currently the least expensive way to get the Carta 1300 screen. It's not perfect. (It's far from perfect, both you and Voja are right.) But it is a super thin and light e-ink tablet with wacom EMR. There is lots to like about it. :-) I'd expect Supernote A5X2 to leapfrog it.
