aliso321 I completely agree. Having grown up with the Prequels in my childhood I enjoyed and loved watching episodes I and II as a kid at the cinema and then as I got older I started to understand the Hate The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones got. Because yeah with Jar Jar Binks in Episode I and the Romance in Episode II being really cheesy it was pretty bad in parts. But I still personally like them with aspects such as the Darth Maul Fight, Palpatine’s Rise to the top of Political power through Time, Count Dooku and the Clone troopers. However I always stuck to my guns that the Revenge of the Sith is a Frickin AWESOME Star Wars movie on Par with the OT and a Masterpiece of Cinema and I had debates and fall outs with anyone who tried to tell me otherwise. The Revenge of the Sith is my personal Second Favourite Star Wars movie after The Empire Strikes Back.
Now you know how the fans of the original felt about the original prequels but yeah. Seeing Anakin's sacrifice amount to nothing through a trilogy of films hurt both series as both main characters' journey meant nothing and they died for very little. Especially when the prequels established the tragedy of Darth Vader.
I remember watching this movie for the first time when I was 11. My mom and I went to theaters and from when Anakin destroyed the Jedi Temple to Padmes death every scene in between I could feel Anakins pain, I could feel him slowly dying, once Padme finally died after giving birth and this scene came up I cried and it still impacts me to this day. At that moment Star Wars became part of my life, I’m 22 now, and I can still feel his pain. Lucas did a fantastic job with the prequels. We need you back man.
Many emotional moments in Star Wars, but this for me is undoubtedly the saddest of them. Gifted senator, heroic leader of Naboo, mother of two children and yet dead at the age of 27. RIP.
"What I remember about the rise of the Empire is… is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word." - Anonymous 501st Clone Trooper.
...also played when Darth Vader rises from his medical bed in Ep 3. I have come to the conclusion that this theme symbolized the death of an important Jedi. This theme was played at the death of Obi Qui Gon's funeral and when Anakin Skywalker died to fully become Darth Vader
It’s certainly debatable. The originals probably has the more iconic soundtrack, but the prequels have some really beautiful hidden gems like this one. And Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes is incredible.
That last part when Palpatine and Vader stand and gaze off into the construction of the Death Star still gives chills, that verse of the song takes a turn and signals that the young boy, who grew from boy to man, wanting to learn nothing but the ways of the Force and become a great Jedi, suddenly turned dark and seduced by a greater force. The story of Anakin Skywalker is so damn tragic, its so well written and played out, its brilliant!
Just love those few seconds of padmes funeral music. It conveys so much. Most of all, a deep, intense grief, and heartache; not just for Padme, but for Anakin, and for the Jedi and the light in the galaxy, which has been choked out by the evil of the Sith.
Ive listened to this suite a bare minimum of fifty times. It's probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever listened to, and one of the few things that can actually make me cry from sadness and delight at the same time

This played in my head when I had just gotten my braces installed. I laid back in the reclining chair as it slowly began to rise and I was handed a mirror to look at the braces. Knowing I could never eat my favorite candy for the next year and a half, Darth Vader's "NOOOO!" played in my head.

I remember in October 2005 I had just returned home from being away at school. ROTS has just come out on DVD. I woke up one morning and for some reason I was compelled to watch the scene from 2:58 on. It’s when Vader is walking across the bridge of the star destroyer towards the emperor. It was mainly that force theme playing over it that got me. Just the tragedy of everything that happened. That scene has always stuck with me.....
the darkness rises my friend the world is on the brink of war once more and all we can do is wait and watch as all that we have built for the last 10,000 years collapses around us
Goddamnit the new Disney saga needs more of this! Jokes and lighthearted adventures are fine, but where is the whole mystical side of Star Wars... the high stakes, the fate of the Galaxy at the hands of our characters.
You don't have that either in the OT. The all prequels were mean't to be Dark...so you can have those kind of soundtracks. The only thing that's get close in the OT is the moment were Luke fall slightlhy in the Darkside during his last duel against his father.
The prequels weren’t that dark until Revenge Of The Sith, where we get really intense music. I like the sequel soundtracks but we can hope for some heavier pieces in the next one.
Sorry for adding this so late but revenge of the Sith is meant to be one of the darkest because it's the moment where pretty much everything goes to shit, it's the pinnacle, Lucas took advantage of that and it's quite clear that his intention was to have the audience an emotional wreck by the end, which I was
Revenge of the Sith had one of the best soundtracks. Williams did a fantastic job capturing the emotion of almost every single scene, especially near the end when we see the rise of Vader and the Empire.
I don’t remember how I reacted the first time I saw this film. But I do remember the circumstances. As with the other Star Wars movies, I was young, perhaps 5 or 6, and I watched them all with my dad while we were on vacation at a condo near a beach. Back then I only cared about special effects and music, and though I was able to follow the plot, it wasn’t the focal point to my young brain. Now, after having rewatched the films dozens of times each, the poetry of the cinematography and writing combined with the music is just incredibly beautiful. Star Wars has created some wonderful memories in my life, from watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars with my dad every Saturday morning as we enjoyed breakfast, to rewatching the movies just to hear the soundtrack, to playing The Force Unleashed, the KOTOR games and Jedi Fallen Order for the first time. Even reading the books (mostly late at night), and the many hours spent consuming Wookieepedia’s exhaustive catalog of information just because I was curious. Not to mention that I listened to the soundtracks almost every night while I slept. My dad and I still watch pretty much every piece of Star Wars media, from The Mandalorian to the Clone Wars revival to the Bad Batch, whenever we have time. I think one of the most important impacts Star Wars has had on my life is that I’m now a composer because of my fascination with film music-in particular, that of John Williams. I started playing violin when I was five so I could learn the theme to Schindler’s List, which I had heard in the car, and it only progressed from there, especially as I consumed a steady diet of high-quality film music. And if not for film music, I would never have discovered Wagner or Sibelius or Dvorak or Mahler or Rachmaninoff or Debussy or Ravel! Now, I’ve drifted away from film music stylistically, preferring an admittedly French approach to harmony, in contrast to the very rich Austro-Germanic tradition of film scores. But I come back to it often, because it grounds me and reminds me of one of the reasons I am so obsessed with writing music. So thank you, George Lucas. Thank you, John Williams. And thank you, Dad.
Everything about the score of Revenge of the Sith is just utterly incredible. John Williams is simply unmatched in his compositional and arranging skill. I mean the fact he worked The Imperial March into this is just mind boggling and you can tell he is just as invested in the characters are we the audience are
The death of a wife and mother, the death of a husband and father, the birth of a monster and the rebirth of an Empire after one thousand years of extinction. Padme did not die from a broken heart, she died from life drain. Only three Sith masters were able to fully master life drain, those Sith were Nihilus, Plagueious and Sidious. No one could beat life drain, the only ones who could were the exile and his companions when they were fighting Nihilus on the bridge of the Ravager during the battle of Citidal Station.
Watch Ep. 3 once more, but instead of using your eyes, use your ears. As Padme's heart stops, Vaders restarts. Our good emperor used his power to keep Vader alive, at the cost of Padme.
The novel of the film actually states she dies because her heart is breaking. There also could have been complications with her early labour that the droids didn’t know about.
Peace is a lie There is only passion Through passion I gain strength Through strength Power Through power I gain victory Through victory my chains are broken
"Lord Vader? Can you hear me?", Vader's mask turns to the emperor. "Where is Padmé? Is she alive? Is she alright?", even through his artificial voice, someone can feel his worries. "In fact of your hatred, you killed her.", said the emperor. "No. That's not true. I felt it. SHE WAS ALIVE.", his hate and his wrath going to destroy the most of the medical equipment, but there you see Palpatine smiling. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO." hrhrhrhr. favorite scene in all 8 movies.
It's also the theme to qui-gons funeral. I love that symbolic nature being as how Qui-Gon found Anakin on Tatooine and really believed he would be a force for good.
When I watched this scene in this movie, my heart hurt will all the emotion, but I admit Vader's scream felt strange for me. However, later I read the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith. This scene is my favorite in the novel. Reading Anakin/Vader's POV in this scene made my heart bleed. And the novel explained the extent of Anakin's injury beautifully. I could not stop my tears. It was very tragic, but it was written beautifully. Do you know that when Vader screamed in the movie he actually directed all his anger and hatred to Palpatine? He put the blame of Padme's death to Palpatine, before realising it was his mistake all along, a self-fulfilling prophecy. Damned. I love this scene in the novel.
1:22 makes me think of Vader having nightmares about his past and although he is now a Sith Lord left scarred and deformed underneath an armoured life support suit, he after having these nightmares about what he could have become and how if he wasn't so arrogant and impatient, he would have become a Jedi master, and he would happily live with his wife and children on naboo, and with sidious dead, the jedi order would live on through harmony and peace, and Vader could not do anything except fuel himself because of his mistakes of following palpatines manipulative ways...
I adore this piece of music, my favourite part is the end where they combine the dart vader theme with those tragic sounding violins, it shows that we have vader now (a sith) but he's plagued with tragedy, pain and heartache for the rest of his life and then the violins fade and it ends on vader's theme, theres so much meaning behind this music
those last few seconds never fail to give me chills. like vader peering off observing the death star, behind the mask his yellow Sith eyes mourn what once was with Padme.
@Joe Cool Berry Finally someone who talks the truth. I don't know why everyone just loves Carrie Fisher. Even in the movies I didn't like her performance
I'm pretty sure others have said it, but this music was played as a leitmotif rhyme for both Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé Amidala's deaths. When Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul in _Episode I - The Phantom Menace_ with the resulting funeral afterward, Anakin Skywalker's fate to fall to the Dark Side had been sealed. And the funeral for Padmé where it all began on Naboo in _Episode III - Revenge of the Sith_ only serves to tie a bow on the fact that had Qui-Gon survived and trained Anakin, he might not have fallen at all.
I don't know why, but every time I hear the music of Padme's funeral I get goosebumps. I watched the film so often but this scene and the following with Vader really depresses me every time.
It's ironic that Anakin had asked Padmé if she was an angel, for Anakin himself was a Seraphic Hero of the Clone Wars, and that demonic thing he became, Darth Vader amounts to a fallen angel.
A literal funeral for Padmé Amidala, and a metaphorical funeral for Anakin Skywalker.

This is in the last episode of The Clone Wars, at the very beginning.
No but ok
@@tovarishlumberjack2356 It is. It’s literally the intro for the final episode. It’s just a slightly different version.

No. But similar enough that it gave me star wars chills.
This played during the beginning of the final episode of Clone Wars, how fitting...
The lyrics were different, the pitch a little higher, but other than that yeah
Actually. It's extremely similar but different

Thank you, Mr. Jones. You are with the force now.

I just read the news on James Earl Jones passing and this is all that was playing in my head as I read the article
Mine to he was a great man 😢😢😢😢
Same here
I remember watching this movie for the first time when I was 11.
RIP.

Prequels music arguably better than originals.
I like the prequels as auf whole. I enjoying the Movies, more than the originals 😅👌
Prequels are better than OT
liam holloway I agree
now thats a crazy debate
It’s certainly debatable. The originals probably has the more iconic soundtrack, but the prequels have some really beautiful hidden gems like this one. And Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes is incredible.
R.I.P. James Earl Jones.

In the words of Comic Book Guy,
Best, Funeral, Theme, Ever!
I can definitely see that!

ROTS has just come out on DVD. I woke up one morning and for some reason I was compelled to watch the scene from 2:58 on.
The OT definitely felt dark at times, especially in ESB
The prequels weren’t that dark until Revenge Of The Sith, where we get really intense music. I like the sequel soundtracks but we can hope for some heavier pieces in the next one.
Sorry for adding this so late but revenge of the Sith is meant to be one of the darkest because it's the moment where pretty much everything goes to shit, it's the pinnacle, Lucas took advantage of that and it's quite clear that his intention was to have the audience an emotional wreck by the end, which I was
EXACTLY!
I love how the force theme is sprinkled in there before the imperial march, always showing that Anakin was there the whole time, just buried.
The funeral of the Republic.

Revenge of the Sith had one of the best soundtracks. Williams did a fantastic job capturing the emotion of almost every single scene, especially near the end when we see the rise of Vader and the Empire.
"Oh, sweet sleep, ah!
Rest subduing fear."
"Oh, sweet sleep, ah!

"Oh death, sweet sleep."
Not only was it emotional, but it made me fearfully come to realize that the dark times were ahead for the Jedi.

It really does sound like it's saying "but I am a sith Lord, but I could not save her"
Wow, it does.
This music is so powerful. I am now incredibly sad.

Revenge of the Sith shall forever be the greatest prequel/origin movie ever made
"Lord Vader? Can you hear me?", Vader's mask turns to the emperor. "Where is Padmé? Is she alive? Is she alright?", even through his artificial voice, someone can feel his worries. "In fact of your hatred, you killed her.", said the emperor. "No. That's not true. I felt it. SHE WAS ALIVE.", his hate and his wrath going to destroy the most of the medical equipment, but there you see Palpatine smiling. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."
hrhrhrhr. favorite scene in all 8 movies.
cringe
Joseph Brunette it’s a powerful scene, except when Vader says nooo
Worm On A Hook The first words of Vader is not "Where is Padme ?" It's "Yes Master." 😉
They have to play this at my funeral!!!! This is so beautiful music!!!
God this theme had me weeping when I was little
I adore this piece of music, my favourite part is the end where they combine the dart vader theme with those tragic sounding violins, it shows that we have vader now (a sith) but he's plagued with tragedy, pain and heartache for the rest of his life and then the violins fade and it ends on vader's theme, theres so much meaning behind this music
3:00 🕒 forward AMAZING!!! The mix of this requiem with Imperial is GENIUS and one of my most favorite moments in the entire saga!

RIP STAR WARS
"Is she safe? Is she alright?" I might support the Empire but my heart always breaks when I hear *Anakin's* last words...
“It seems that in anger…you killed her…”
I don't know why, but every time I hear the music of Padme's funeral I get goosebumps. I watched the film so often but this scene and the following with Vader really depresses me every time.
