Magnificent flowers. If you like old crosses you might like: Cattleya "Ports of Paradise,Lc "Irene Finney",Lc "Jewel Box" Scheherazade, Cattlianthe "Hazel Boyd" Little Hazel.,Cattleya "Hawaian Variable" and the likes.
Your cattleyas are so beautiful! I can only grow my cattleyas indoors and not having much success. I use grow lights and humidifiers and bottled distilled water but have never been able to get a cattleya to flower for me. I'm now trying to grow cattleyas mounted to see if I have better luck. I use MSU fertilizer, Cal-Mag, and seaweed extract but that does not seem to get them to flower. If I can get a cover built over my patio, I think maybe if I could get them outside in the summer, I might have a better success rate. Happy orchid growing from Kentucky, James
Hi James! Greetings to Kentucky! Typically, orchids that do not bloom need more light. I have no experience with grow lights but I would recommend you put them outside during the "good season" (not sure of your weather pattern in KY). You can use shade cloth if they are too exposed to direct sunlight
@@orchidhouse Yes, I bet that lower light is the issue. Mine are in a west facing window with mini blinds open during the day. The grow lights are over the ones away from the window. Hopefully next summer I can figure out some way to put them outside. Thanks
Gorgeous cattleyas!! Can you talk a little more about watering cattleyas. I know they like to dry but it’s hard to know when it’s the right time to water when they are potted. It’s easier when they are mounted. I grow them outside in Miami. Thanks!
When in doubt, wait another day. When mounted, you can water every day (except if temps go below 70 F) This is a link to my video on general care for Cattleyas. I hope this helps ua-cam.com/video/0OtJ8sGyXUg/v-deo.html
Thank you The large clips came from a local orchid supply store. If you are in South Florida it is Green Barn Orchid Supplies out of Delray Beach. I believe you can buy online as well
These are absolutely gorgeous! 😍 Very well timed too.. I bought a 'No ID' cattleya just today that's about to bloom. It's potted in gravel, looks very healthy but the medium is bone dry. I'm very tempted to water it, but I'm afraid the potential bloom will blast.. help, please?
@@petrichor7121 Thank you! Watering a medium will not blast buds. Buds blast because of insect damage typically. If it looks bone dry go ahead and water it thoroughly and then let it dry out again. good luck!
@@orchidhouse I only just realized I commented in someone else's comment.. so sorry! Thanks for your reply tho! 💚 I'll be saving this video for future reference as well.. really, REALLY loved these plants! 🥰
ALL 3 are Gorgeous but the last one RLC. Cornerstone is one to drool over 🤤

I enjoy your videos very much and I've learnt a lot from you. Thank you! May I ask what's in the pot? is it just charcoal or a mix?
Thank you very much!
The medium is a mix of bark, perlite/sponge rock and charcoal
Salut Olivier, mais au fait....as tu d autres passions que les orchidees ? D autres espèces de plantes peut-être ?
Les orchidées me prennent suffisamment de temps en dehors du travail. Nous n'avons que 24 heures par jour après tout AHAH
