She has such impossibly long limbs its so hard for her to look like she always has them under control, especially with such fast choreography, Balanchine was not meant for her though she puts up a very good effort
She has long extentions, but her arms are awful, it lacks technical refinement and she's so turned in the last diagonal- look at her final pose- you can SEE HER HEEL in the tendu derrière! Thumbs down.
Just because she is tall, with long and legs does not make her a Balanchine "ballerina". She doesn't dance close to any of Balanchine muses! Go watch Suzanne Ferrell or Heather Watts... And then tell me if she even dances close to that style!
@Stars Lurik i don't think so... i mean, watch nycb perform jewels than watch mariinsky... american companies have more energy, mariisnky is too slow and the ballerinas are very tal so they're not very agile
Marinsky ballerinas dance circles around NYCB. (And let's not even mention ABT. Especially now that they don't just poach Russian dancers for their top spots, filling them with media-hyped ones lacking the most basic technique)
she is not the ultimate Balanchine ballerina and it is apparent in her lack of musicality. this role was created on Violette Verdy, the French muse of Mr. B because she was the most musical dancer her ever knew! Alina is so far from the musicality required in this piece that it inhibits her performance instead of augmenting it. the accent is always on the downbeat (the 1) never the "and" and that's why she looks awkward and unpolished. to dance Balanchine you have to know MUSIC!!!!!
Lack of WHAT?! Very fucking funny. Would she have got into VAGANOVA without musicality?! NO, THEY DON'T TAKE STUDENTS WITHOUT. And NYCB ballerinas are unmusical, and they don't even dance real Balanchine
@danielconover1 To compare Violette Verdy and Alina Somova is immature at best. They're 50 years apart! Back then the Russians looked the same as American dancers who looked the same as Europeans. When "the look" changed it was in America first; Suzanne Farrell is a foot taller than Alina and moved ten times as fast (and she didn't have Jay Leno's chin)! And now at City Ballet all of those girls eclipse Somova in height and leg length and still can dance on the music! In short, Ms. Somova has n
Those fuettes are embarassing ..The Marinsky should be ashamed ...That is ridiculous that she is a soloist ..she remindes me of an albatross with a broken wing flapping it frantikly , People say shes double jointed but shes distjointed , why are they surpressing thier real talent .
Too bad this may upset people obsessed with this dancer, but I do not see what is great. She is less able than than some students to inteprete roles and her technical abilities are nothing special. Where is musical awareness here?As a dancer myself, her lack of musicality is shocking.Laughable though, maybe she hits the vodka before each performance!!
I dunno... She had grace! I understand that there are a few mistakes on her tumbs and stuff, but who are we to judge her? Perfect ballerinas? Are we in the Royal Opera House? No! You're just closed-minded and I think a bit jealous of her! I never thought that ballerinas could insult and judge at this point... Disgusting. I liked her dance, bye.
This performance is a bit flat, although I have seen her do better. And for the record, the best ballerinas don't come from The Royal Ballet. I would argue that they come from the likes of the Mariinsky and Bolshoi in Russia.
It is apparent that you simply hate the shine and perfection with which Mariinsky's theatre ballerinas dance Balanchine, who also came from Saint Petersburg to America. May be that's why ballerinas in Saint Petersburg dance it way better than ballerinas in NYCB?
Musically she was absolutely perfect. Actually she was perfect in her dance too. The only thing I would tell her to work is to make her 1st position more round, it's a little edgy. And her leg in fuette needs to be at 45 degree, not 90. But,that's about it. Everything else was perfect. If I would tell NYCB dancers what to fix it would take 10 pages.
Love Somova’s dancing. It’s brilliant.
❤️❤️🌹🌹beauty, great technique, fabulous dancing- that’s Alina
She has such impossibly long limbs its so hard for her to look like she always has them under control, especially with such fast choreography, Balanchine was not meant for her though she puts up a very good effort
Balanchine wanted long limbs
ahhhh somova, one of the most debated dancers in the world!!
INCREDIBLE!
I love her lines, but now I can tell that she's dancing
beautiful
No grace in you) Alina is gorgeous here. No one can compare with her grace and beauty.
i love Alina but...those fouettes make me...
I think its her long limbs 😅but svetlana also has log limbs so maybe its her control thats off here
Not just fouettes....
Splendida,!!! Nella tecnica perfetta, nell' armonia e la grazia interpretativa!!!!
Her arms are BEAUTIFUL!!
love her she is perferct.
@celmaifierce21 agreed! it actually disturbed me a bit having watched the patricia mcbride version many times...
너무 이쁘다❤
She has long extentions, but her arms are awful, it lacks technical refinement and she's so turned in the last diagonal- look at her final pose- you can SEE HER HEEL in the tendu derrière! Thumbs down.
Alina Somova.

😂😂😂😂
@celmaifierce21 well said. When she started doing squatty russian fouettes in the coda I almost had a heart attack
@MBballerina thanks~
@Stars Lurik i don't think so... i mean, watch nycb perform jewels than watch mariinsky... american companies have more energy, mariisnky is too slow and the ballerinas are very tal so they're not very agile
@celmaifierce21 i guess it's good that she isn't primarily a balanchine dancer
Her fouettes would look so much better if she took some height off...but her body line is beautiful. How tall is she in cm, btw?
You are so right on this!
What is the name of this variation??
+Michelle Alvarez tchaikovsky
@egomi24 shes not tall. she just has long limbs.
Around 5'6", she looks taller than she actually is.
INCREDIBLE! 3 dislikes??? OMG!!!!

@missiheartballet If i could i would. I am considering making more youtube accounts just for that reason

@celmaifierce21 that was really nicely stated.
Oh please the dancers at NYCB wish they could do what ALINA CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Spotify45 nice call :)
omg her nailss :\
agreed!

Er.. what? Her musicality is excellent. Unlike unmusical Americans. And you realise that no one graduate Vaganova with bad musicality, right?
VODKA?!?! That's such a fucking offensive STEREOTYPE. Most Russians don't even like vodka. It's what poor people drink.
It was offf

@Amy t Turnout is just nonsense. Ballet is something else
@@amyt.7401 she will never have turnout. I think we can be sure of that!
dont like the way her arms looked :S
I think she's a wonderful lyric dancer but this performance lacks energy and humour. I prefer Dorothee Gilbert in this variation.
Alina Somova dances way better than Suzanne Ferrell and Heather Watts, can't even compare!
Absolutely terrible.
This is why i am not a ballerina. Too closed minded and jelous hearted. All of them. Its so ridiculous and annoying
What are you talking about ?
How can you tell that from ONE video. Ballerinas can be jealous, but all sports and jobs have jelousy. Come on. Shut up.
I think she's referring to the comments. Too much jealousy indeed
horrible performance. No grace at all!
@chun25011 make that 100 billion dislikes please! *spew*
once you get passed her extensions she really offers nothing, like at all.
ickkkkk.
i don t like her arms
aweful
