Kes was supposed to be one of the most important characters on the show and her life span was to follow series to its end. And they created this fake news story that she was let go because of bringing 7 of 9 to the show, in reality she was let go because the problems she was having on set, arriving late, messing up lines which of course was symptomatic of larger mental problems.
