Growing up, we had no idea what we were singing along to, but it didn’t matter. We just knew that it was our favorite song. Now, as I work in 2024, I realize just how brilliant it truly is. Watching the video now, I'm in awe of the incredible craftsmanship that went into it. They really created a timeless masterpiece. Listening since i don’t know when, this song still motivates me every day.
I heard this song when I was 16 and I knew exactly what it meant, back then it was so difficult to find anyone into the game, finding them was a feat, and even if I did, I lacked the confidence to approach them. However, things have changed, and it's surprising to see how every 12-year-old these days is into the game. Time indeed does fly.
When this song came out in 2007, Yahoo was already rampart. Some of my guys from UNILAG got into the game as far back as 2000. They were already buying Golf 3 and BMW 3 Series around this time to oppress on campus. I was around them, knew what they were doing and how they were doing it but I never got involved for whatever reasons. Ilupeju, Shomolu and Akerele axis of Surulere were their main spots back then. At the onset of this Yahoo thing, boys were mainly shopping online with credit cards obtained from major hotels like EKO Hotel & Sheraton. They were mainly buying computer components and selling at cheaper rates in computer village. The explosion of internet in Nigeria was the main catalyst but they were very few cybercafes around town, so campuses like Unilag & Yabatech were a favourite spamming spot. When the runs started proving itself lucrative and easy, since almost (95%) of companies where shipping to Nigeria then, cybercafes started popping up all over Ilupeju and Surulere. You have to understand that boys have always had one or more credit card numbers written on papers at hand but it was very hard to do anything with it without involving real G men, the old school 419 guys like Fred Ajudua, etc. Thats why I said the explosion of internet in Nigeria was the main catalyst.
