The song that changed the face of Afrobeats forever
Very true.
Kukere was a major success worldwide but "ojuelegba" was the turning point in terms of esthetics and vibe overall. Afrobeats today is synonym with that laid back, groovy kinda spiritual mood.
Big factsssss
@Michael Lawson Fela had his own fusion he called Afrobeat but the sounds everyone hears now being identified with similar name is not Fela's creation. They come from fusion of sounds from various backgrounds and generations many of which preceded Fela himself. So get it correct now. I don't really like history being put wrongly.
@Michael Lawson Fela's music and this modern African pop music are neither the same nor did the latter evolve from the former. They are two different things altogether.
The present term 'Afrobeat' was coined a couple of years ago, probably in the UK, to literally mean ''African sounds'' hence, Afrobeats, as against other sounds around the world. Fela was not in the picture originally when the term was being used but because of Fela's Afrobeat, whenever the term is used Fela almost immediately comes to mind because of the similarity of the two terms.
continuous evolution ofIf you want to listen to Afrobeats by African musicians, of course you know whom to listen to. You can as well compare all these Afrobeats sounds with the kind of music being made by Fela's children and see the difference.
2024 n it's still dope. Who agrees??

It's 2023 & am still vibing to this great song. It brings back memories of my service year to my country Nigeria. During my service year (NYSC), we the corps members in 2011 vibed this song in our passing out parade. Each time I hear this tune, it reminds me about my service year and try to imagine how time flies. 12 years now, d song is still a hit. Big ups Iyanya for this luvly tune. No doubt, u are d best in MTN Nigeria's project fame during ur time as a contestant in d event. And d rest is now a history.

This is my favourite afropop song of all time... The impact of this song on afropop as a genre cannot be overstated. It formally started the 5-claps, 4-kicks beat pattern that gave birth to afropop as we know It... Kukere is forever!!
Ghanaians said they started it first

lmaoo, only in Africa can a stocky guy twerking be considered normal...I love my culture 😂😂😂
+Peter Kwenah they're not twerking, lol. Only in Africa is this how (most) people dance when they're feeling mad hype. And we can be content to do so without using recent American words to describe ourselves.
Everybody is forming 'twerk this, twerk that' only b/c of Miley Cyrus. Even back when it was just a black (American) thing, I wasn't seeing white people telling me I'm twerking. Now, plain Jane dey ask me 'so can everyone in your culture twerk' -__- ... "No. Leave me alone" lol
+FroMaestro White people, am I right?
I agree is funny
+Petah Runs the jewels Its not twerking. Plus very normal and sexy.
+Petah Runs the jewels Nope, in the Caribbean too boo.

I was born and raised in America (New Jersey) but Azonto speaks to my soul as well. Our ancestors are just calling us back to where we all came from and this is the essence.
This is not Azonto
@XIII The dance is called Etighi Nigerian dance not Azonto. I've seen Ghanaians dance Azonto to this. But the musix is Nigerian Afrobeats
@@MrSivram28 they're some azonto too. Heck even clips from azonto music video is here
Leonard Jackson Agreed!
whiteKnight if you don’t know something and people tell you, accept and stop arguing. This is etighi a Nigerian dance. Azonto is Ghanaian. 2 different cultures. Ugh ignorants man.

I was invited to a Children's Party that year. I went with my daughter who was just 3years Old then; when this song was played, my daughter got up with happiness and danced all the dance steps she had seen over and over in this video and all the adults in the party, gave her so much money that a broke Father went home with thousands of naira cos of a great song and a sweet daughter.
Iyanya, do a remix already or plan for an Anniversary of this song.
This is such a cute story.
