My dad used to play Mehdi hassan songs on his van radio on long trips to markets when I was around 18 years old, but i never understood this music and i used to put fingers in my ears or put my headphones on and listen to my music on my Walkman. 32 years down the line, just by chance I found this you tube video. I am now mesmerised by this great artist. Oh dad, you were right and i was wrong and I'm so sorry.

All we should try to know is that a man is a humanbeing ; he can't be any worse. Before becoming a Hindu, Muslim or Christian, let us try to be a good human being first ! Needless to say that Music is universal in its appeal. It has no boundary, barrier, language, race or religion. Therefore, it's not fair to paint music with political or religious colours. Have been listening to the great singer and composer for more than half a century now. I am a senior citizen and a great music lover. My dad used to sing ghazals and used to ask us to listen and understand. I also sing his ghazals like,Ranjish hi sahi, baat karani mujhe mushqil, gulon me rang bhare,..( In the mehfil of friends).I have read Urdu at school level but have to go to dictionary for the words from Persian and Arabic. Understanding the meaning of all the words used by Shayar gives the real feel and it is necessary also. Have listened to the great maestro live, twice at Shimla summer festival. A great legend. No match.Can,t be described in words, one has to feel only...Great.
In my opinion, he is the first and completely made for गज़ल (Gazal) singing. He is infact matchless. His name will be in shine in golden and globally for his contribution for music.

I experienced 3 of Khan Sahibs mehfil and larger concert in NYC in the early 90's. I was fortunate to place my hands on his shoulder and get a photograph, my prized possession. I am so blessed.

Perhaps,the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the greatest improvisation artist in the World Of Ghazal Gayiki in regard to deft handling of different ragas and their appropriate application in his divine creations. The way he had modulated his divine voice in umpteen number of times in umpteen number of ways, no one else could ever dare to attempt! What baffles one and all was the fact that In doing so, the great Khan Saab had never ever lost track with Sur, Taal and Loy. As such, he was rated so highly as an exponent of ghazal gayiki by the pundits and connoisseurs of music alike across the globe. He was simply without parallel as an exponent of ghazal gayiki! Here, in this ghazal, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had lent his divine voice to the beautiful poetry of Perveen Sakir, diplomat poetess of Pakistan and the out come was a masterpiece, as usual! Have been listening to the great singer and composer for more than half a century now. I am a senior citizen and a great music lover. My dad used to sing ghazals and used to ask us to listen and understand. I also sing his ghazals like,Ranjish hi sahi, baat karani mujhe mushqil, gulon me rang bhare,..( In the mehfil of friends).I have read Urdu at school level but have to go to dictionary for the words from Persian and Arabic. Understanding the meaning of all the words used by Shayar gives the real feel and it is necessary also. Have listened to the great maestro live, twice at Shimla summer festival. A great legend. No match.Can,t be described in words, one has to feel only...Great.
In my opinion, he is the first and completely made for गज़ल (Gazal) singing. He is infact matchless. His name will be in shine in golden and globally for his contribution for music.

Needless to say that one must have enough courage of conviction, sincerity of purpose and unwavering devotion to his work so as to achieve the level of success that the great Khan Saab had achieved during his illustrious career spanning over almost six decades as an exceptional exponent of ghazal gayiki! Besides, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had something heavenly in his voice which made him so unique! Perhaps, the great ALLAH MIYAH had bestowed upon the great Mehdi Hassan Saab all the attributes that a great singer should have!
