Beautiful Karen. Even the best people are unlucky in love and never find true happiness. She did give the world her voice and we should be ever grateful that people can find love through her songs.

John Bettis was Richard's co-writer on most of the Carpenters original songs. By the time Karen was married, Bettis had known her for at least a decade.

That name immediately rang a bell here in connection with Michael Jackson. I did not know it by heart, but after I found it, I knew I had actually should have known that he co-wrote “Hunan Nature”.

Now this is what you call Music. A fantastic intricate composition performed with an impeccable arrangement. When you then add Karen's voice, well you have perfection. This is what today's pop music is missing. However thankfully we do have Dimash and Lucy Thomas, along with a few others.

Such a lovely voice. It’s hard to think of Karen’s pain and heartbreak when she gave such a beautiful gift to us and seemed to have trouble finding happiness for herself. So sad. We can cherish the many recordings and only hope that she derived some pleasure from the enjoyment she provided to all of us. Thanks Harri and JKClark. 🌺✌️

Written by John Bettis (pretty well known songwriter). He also wrote the lyrics for "Top Of The World", recorded by several big name artists, including Karen herself. ;)

Yes, Bettis was to Richard Carpenter as Bernie Taupin is to Elton John...his lyricist. Nearly all Richard Carpenter songs have Bettis lyrics.

@@NathanVeenstraas well as many others (Whitney Houston is one of them). He has close to 800 songs listed in the ASCAP listings that he was involved with co writing or completely writing himself. ;)

I myself spent a good part of life as a wedding videographer. The videographer for Karen's wedding is the one who put together this special video. Wedding videos were a new thing in the 1980's and their video quality was subpar when compared to TV videos due to the highly prohibitive costs of top-notch cameras and recorders; hence the poor quality. Good reaction, Harri. You picked up on the double 3-part themes of the song: a) children, adults, mature adults and b) fear, love and hope (even joy). Cheers, mate!

Just like the cream always rises to the top...
Karen Carpenter's voice will beautifully grace the the music.
I've watched the biography of the unfortunate circumstances of her marriage.

Ela tinha uma voz tão bonita ! Só não teve muita sorte de der nascido numa família onde o irmão Richard aproveitava do talento dela por pura canancia , e uma mãe voltada apenas pelo interesse financeiro dela , além desse marido mau - caráter , ela foi apenas uma moça sofrida que engoliu tudo isso calada , mais que deixou sua obra divina através de suas músicas como : I need to be in love , One more time , I believe you , Sing entre tantas ... seu espírito foi para um lugar bom , dencanse em paz Karen . Beto - Brasília - df 👍🥰❤️💕

Now I am balling like a child. I love this woman and her voice so much. It is just so sad, she was a beautiful woman not just a singer. Or a drummer. HOW IN GOD'S EARTH DID SHE NOT SEE THIS? HOW COULD SHE LOOK IN A MIRROR AND NOT SEE THE STUNNINGLY TALENTED LADY ALL OF US SAW? SWEET LORD, HOW?

Having read what I have about the dynamic between Karen and Agnes around that wedding...I see a lot of irony in Bettis' lyric.

I'm a big Carpenters fan, but never heard this one. Personally, I'm not crazy about it. I never liked some of the songs from later albums that just dragged and had no hook. Fortunately, they were the exception on most of their albums. Karen sounds great here, but this seems more suited for an instrumental from the 40s.
