God bless comments like this. It’s so hard for creators to come up with fresh ideas and as a creative person myself, I can get stuck in a rut. This is a great suggestion.
i think this idea (the pickup) is actually really cool and i wish more companies would take risks like this obviously its not going to be for everyone but theres always an advantage to being able to get brand new tones just some people wont have a use for these tones offered in their style of music
While generally a good practice, a Fluence Modern is gonna be plenty bright and chunky enough to not need the extra angling towards the bridge. It will affect the tone somewhat, but likely little more than a minor EQ adjustment in reality. Like the difference between a neck pickup on a 24 vs 22 fret guitar of the same scale length.
doing a long term tour on both would be cool if possible. As someone that doesn't plan on touring ever as a guitar playing hobbist I like the aspect of how it sounds in a home recording situation the most but knowing the faults they may have on tour is still very good to know.
That pickup is in the same place a normal Tele pickup is. It just isn't slanted. 🤷🤦 Middle placement would be on the pickguard, just like a Nashville Tele.
They'd have to use a larger pickup to be able to have it cover all the strings if it were slanted and there's no 9 string version of the pickup afaik so they wouldn't be able to make an 8 string version with a slanted open core modern. Maybe that was the deciding factor on the pickup placement/orientation.
@@kacperkaps8591 the 9 string pickup would be for the 8 string model. No 9 string version of the pickup means they wouldn't be able to make an 8 string version.
I'm looking to get my first seven string, would you recommend this or the Damien platinum? I like the Tele shape this one has but I want the best sounding guitar for my money. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated
It seems like all of schecters that are multiscale use schecter pickups when they slant it with the bridge. I wonder if they didn't slant it with the Fishmans because of the overall length of the pickup possibly not being long enough to pick up all the strings very well. Just a thought.
I built an offset fanned fret flying V last year. It has a duncan JB (pickguard mounted). When I cut the passthrough for the pickup, I accidentally positioned it about 3/16" farther toward the neck than I had intended. I didn't even notice until the guitar was fully assembled. It looked a bit off from my drawing. Anyway, I was about to unsolder it and make a new pickguard, but I tested it out anyway. It sounds _really_ good where it is. It still has that percussive thump that you get from that pickup, but woolier and sweeter. It's like a whole different pickup.
I bet you could have recorded the demo with a slanted pickup, nobody would have been able to call it out, and there would still be discourse over the straight pickup. People are listening with their eyes, not their ears. On sound alone, I would have never been able to tell if it was a MS with slanted pickup, MS with straight pickup, straight bridge with straight pickup, or straight with slanted pickup.
Guitarists definitely have a tendency to listen with their eyes not their ears - and I went into this hoping I was wrong (cuz obviously why would I want to not like a guitar lol) but to me the sound difference is very noticeable
@@BaenaCarcosa, it's definitely noticeable. But I think that's good. I appreciate that most of the music you are making, you want a dirty, snarl low end. But that doesn't fit every metal band.
Which is basically what I said haha. Just because it isn't necessarily my cup of tea doesn't mean it is bad or something. My opinion only means as much as you think it does - if you think it sounds great then that is awesome!

Brother, if you have time, I would like some knowledge on choosing a 7-inch guitar pickup for a guitar with a starting price. How should it start? Please help. 🙏🏻
What's annoying about the way the pickup is is that I saw someone selling a prototype of it on Reverb that had a Lundgren Black Heaven 7 instead of the Fishman and it was angled accordingly for the fan fret (can't verify if it's rly legit but it seems to be). So idk why they decided to go this direction with it instead of what they had with the prototype but it seems like most ppl aren't happy with the final result.
According to the fishman website these pickups are not configurable for multi scale . I wonder if the push was made to promote the pickups but also generate ‘Buzz’ by not conforming to the standards. Lots of talk about this guitar design good and bad, all of which are generating Impressions. Would be rad to hear from schecter on this in general

Agile did the straight bridge pickup with the orginal Pendulum (their* first fan fret) way back in the day. Basically kills the tight bridge pickup and gives you a middle pickup tone. Quite a major loss IMO
"Quite a major loss", Not really. Schecter has other MS guitars with angled pickups (including Fishman's), as well as many other companies. Get those instead. This isn't for you. Id assume the pickup was placed in that position to match or parellel the pickguard. Id think if they slanted it, may look more off putting? Maybe not but thats what id assume
I feel like the main difference about the pickup placement would be that you won’t have the same definition on the low strings that you would if the pickup was slanted. Would be awesome if you could compare either the 7 or 8 Black Ops to a guitar with similar specs with the main difference being the other guitar has a slanted pickup so we can really hear the differences 🙂 I do agree with you though it does sound better than I initially thought it would’ve
I feel like the pickup definitely isn't doing justice for more complex metalcore-y or djent-y riffs where clarity is king (for me) since it sounds a little muddy on those low strings, but I could see it working super well for some more Deftones esque stuff, which is slower and more vibe-y

I've had the Otto plugin since 2021, you can tighten it, fatten, do whatever. The good sounds here were mostly due to the amp and cab used and these pickups put together
That's how I am looking at it, this is a pickup that gives us cool and interesting tones. If things were tightened up even further, with a drive pedal dialed into more, then it would sound even better than the Otto Eleven Eleven tones we hear here. Obviously, you can tighten up Otto Eleven Eleven; I just don't thing Andrew did to the degree that this needed for this pickup.

I wonder if they’re targeting the doom crowd with this one. The tight low people will probably steer clear, but doom is full of fuzzy, bass heavy sludge anyways, right?
I suppose the pickup placement is more like a van halen / strat style slant if this guitar wasnt fanned fret it would be in that vain. I personally loved how it sounded
The pickup placement kills this guitar for me. Not a great decision in my opinion. If I did buy it I would pay a professional to put it in the right place. Adds to the cost and at that point not sure it would be worth buying. If you read this schecter, please fix it...Thanks.
Don’t reaaaly need to slant it especially when the pickup has bar style rail slugs instead of bolts ontop it really won’t make as much of a difference I feel like besides the slightly middle shift thing but it’ll definitely have its place
I think the real problem people have with this pickup is, they don't know how to both tighten up the low end and treat this guitar as if it's a mid frequency instrument. So many people want low end "snarl". Why? That just means your bass isn't tight enough. Listen to Meshuggah, arguably the masters of low tuned, wild riffs. The low end snarl comes from the bass, not the guitars.

...and tele shape did not whisper pickup position idea :)
I hate that bridge pickup angle
The pickup isn't slanted so you can actually swap it out
i love schecter
My guess is they did the pickup placement there is both ease and to be different lol which I dig alot. I just don't like the headstock lol
Schecter has the worst headstocks in the guitar game
Slap a single coil in neck and that guitar is perfect.
Repping VCTMS! Nice.
You gotta ask Schecter to send you the Hellraiser C-VI
Looks awesome and I bet it plays even better. 🤘
Sounds fawkin gnar 🤘
Sounds stinky.
I’ll take 12
I suppose the pickup placement is more like a van halen / strat style slant if this guitar wasnt fanned fret it would be in that vain.
I personally loved how it sounded
The pickup placement kills this guitar for me. Not a great decision in my opinion. If I did buy it I would pay a professional to put it in the right place. Adds to the cost and at that point not sure it would be worth buying. If you read this schecter, please fix it...Thanks.
yes, sounds like a guitar !
Not a fan of this new 1 pickup trend companies are doing. And the fanned frets are weird. Other than that this things a beast
The fanned frets serve a purpose, they're not just there to look cool.
Slanted pickups make it more difficult for an upgrade in the future. Maybe thats why
2:02 If you don't think this is deliciously heavy, you might need ear training. Like velvet tones
Thank you for singlehandedly causing my girlfriend and bank account to hate me 😂😂😂😂
