  • Welcome to the cathartic noise of the Korg Monotron Delay. I absolutely love it, and I hope you will too if you got here from considering one! A warm reverb was used in post along with a compressor to even things out just enough for "safe" headphone use, but nothing else was touched.
The Zoom H2n was used for recording and the Sony NEX5n was used for video.

Hahaha, no they're so great! I don't know that I can even pin down why. I think it's because they're cheap, have a warmer lo-fi sound, and once you play around with it enough, the wild, "random" sounds start making a lot more sense! I hope you enjoy it!!

@@bobbyrutz9402 hahaha 😆 that's all what it does best! Aw, I'm glad the kids love it. Yes, it can do so much! Just when you think you've exhausted it, you find a setting combo that let's out a whole new branch of sound!

@@bobbyrutz9402 Oh nice!!! You'll have to let me know how it is! I've looked up so much info on it, but just never got it. Our interaction has inspired me to make another hardware video 😆, so hopefully I'll have one up in the near future! Maybe either a Pocket Operator or the UNO synth, both great budget gear, but neither as open-ended as the Monotrons.

Are these easy to hook into midi's and editiing software?
Would really love to get my son one of these... He's getting into making video game sounds and sound tracks for animations.
He has an AKAI MPK 25 Key, an Orba, and a korg nano Kontrol2 w/ FL Studio. You think this is compatible with his setup? 😊

Hi Chris! Unfortunately, to my knowledge he would only be able to record it and edit the recording (which could still be a good learning project). You can't set the clock to sync with a bpm or anything like that either. There's no midi control and the input is just based off a ribbon under that "keys" panel. Really, this should be treated as more of an effects unit or for ambient music like I did here. You can run audio through it and add effect directly. I highly recommend especially when it goes on sale, but as a learning experience/catharsis and inspiration unit/noisy effect module, and not so much as an instrument for writing, especially not with lack of midi control. The Orba 2 might be a great bet for a good composition gadget with midi use (but I'm not sure exactly how the midi works in it. It might just become an advanced midi controller itself with things like motion control), but it too has its limits. If you need any help looking for something specific, or even figuring out what category of hardware might be useful to your son, let me know! One last thing, the PO-20 can set a bpm and can even be tricked to follow another devices clock and still had no real midi, but specifically for tinkering with videogame type sounds, it might be a wonderful general gift to practice composition. I hope that all helps!

There are solder pads on the underside of the circuit board which you can use to add CV in. Plenty of videos showing how to do the mod. From there a converter is needed as the controllers you listed are MIDI only.
