Winter Snowstorm Hike January 3, 2022

In this video we travel to Grayson Highlands to camp overnight during the January 3rd 2022 winter snowstorm that dumped more than a foot of snow in the Virginia mountains.
We started our trip at the Elk Garden Trailhead off of highway 600 Whitetop Road. Our hike was out and back a total of 11 miles. Elk Garden is a great way to access Mount Rogers if you do not want to enter the main park. Elk Garden is part of the Appalachian Trail and will take you right past Mount Rogers.
Although we were very prepared, the conditions became dangerous due to the frigid wind chill of 3 degrees as we began our hike out. All in all it was a extremely scenic hike out and a great way to kick off the new year!
