I was going to vote Rusty for the boy too! Was going to say Sunny for the girl (along the lines of Dawn and the sun rising) but I love the name Minnie! Perfect idea!
Truthfully, let the kids name them. It probably means more to them than you think, especially if they’re taking care of them. My parents always let me name my cats since they made it clear that they were mine and not theirs. Congratulations!
Yes, definitely. But if you disagree with their choices, please be gentle in guiding them toward something else. When I was 9, I got a cat that was meant to be mine. I was to be her primary carer and (fortunately) she liked hanging out with me over others in the family. I chose a name my mother didn't like, and instead of just steering me toward something else, she completely overrode me, declared what my cat's name would be, and I thereafter had a pet whose name I hated. It still rankles, 30 years later. Please steer gently!
I agree - let the kids have a say in naming them - if you are concerned about their potential choices then just narrow it down to names you would be happy with and let them have a say. They(kids) are far more likely to take ownership of them if its a 'family' choice - also thought the comment about the names being distinct from one another and from all family members' names had merit; especially training 2 at once with the 'help' of kids.
I am a TOTAL dog person. We are also an adoptive family of 3 (special needs/which in the adoptive world has a different connotation than most know). Anyway....I have strong feelings about showing my children that just because things get rough we don’t get rid of our dogs, they aren’t throw away toys. (Our kids came to us with a very different view on animals and we wanted to foster a love of animals). We want to show them that they (kids) are with us for the long haul as well. (And we will never get rid of them if things get tough). Now I know kids are FAR more Important than dogs, but there are many studies on therapies with pets. We have seen their empathy for people and animals grow over the years and they are growing into wonderful, loving, caring people. So when you start fostering (which I am very excited for you about) use these new found friends as tools to help these kids see that you love them through the good and bad and you won’t give up on them. BTW my oldest is now a CNA at a nursing home whom the patients request for their care because she is kind, she is going on to get her RN also. 😀
When dogs live in the house they get more social interaction and learn manners. Dogs still need training classes, but being inside in an everyday home setting is a good way for pups to learn what is expected of them. Edited - If the pups do stay outside, I don't think they should be left crated during the daytime in an unheated, dark shed, without access to water. A heat source, a light, a pen so they can move around during the day when left, a soft bed, access to water and a pee pad for accidents would improve their quality of life. These dogs still have their puppy fur and are not built to withstand cold wintery temps.
I love you guys Dawn!! But I’m confused why the puppies don’t live in the house? I know some people have dogs that run around on the farm all day but don’t they come and live inside and snuggle in your bed? I think dogs that are around people all day and get lots of snuggles and kisses are the most well adjusted dogs. ☺️
Dogs are social animals. Summer time is great, the family will be outdoors but in the winter? The dogs will be isolated. Get them used to being inside with the family. They need to be with their people.
My dogs play with and entertain one another. We live on four acres in the country and they have plenty to entertain them. We have a pond and cow pastures, deers and coyotes to bark at...they have a good life. You don’t have to keep your dogs inside for them to be happy.
Puppies! I've been waiting for more dog content. It was weird how Kona never showed up in your videos. I really hope you decide to let these two inside.
So many great names for the puppies! I have to say that I’m disappointed that they won’t be in the house as part of the family, though. It does me glad you got a pair so at least they won’t be so lonely.
It would be great for the puppies to live with you in the house! As long as they are young, they need a safe space inside without too much chance to destroy stuff - our Beauceron dog started chewing on furniture... But they grow up so fast! I trained Alon myself and he’s totally fine, I am sure you can do the same. We still underestimate how much sleep these guys need, though, leave them sleeping whenever they wish to sleep 😴
ONE WORD- Leash!! Daily walking them on a leash, is one of the most important training tip. Each of you walking them develops bonding, control and good social skills (especially when they are around other people)
I think the dogs will be better behaved if they get used to spending at least some of the day in the house with the family and learning what’s expected. I’d definitely recommend some classes to socialise the dogs and it will give the girls confidence in handling them too.
@@sandyc9379 , l think it’s reasonable and understandable to have outdoor‘working ‘dogs and barn cats on a farm but I think they’ll be better behaved around people if they live a sort of hybrid lifestyle- calm, relaxed companions with the family indoors at times but living outside around the farm the majority of the time.
My husband doesn’t like animals in the house either. But guess what? Our pets are in the house. Don’t get them if you’re not going to properly care for them. An online training? That’s a joke. They need puppy classes, obedience school and tons of one on one time/training. They say in another video they wanted their dog to basically be a porch ornament. But when they went outside the dog was in their kids faces and jumping. Yeah, wonder why? It got zero attention. 🙄🙄🙄
I used to watch this channel for organization tips. I now watch because it always makes me smile listening to you and your husband banter with one another. I can be in a bad mood and you both just make me laugh.
I grew up in a home not much larger than yours. Family of 6. Pets were happily kept in the home....including German Shepherds/Collie. They make the best cuddle buddies and friends.
Luke and Penny I’d definitely bring them in the house for bonding with the fam...like 2 hours a day. Also leash training is key if you plan on traveling with him. RV parks require leashes. We adopted a black lab a year ago. Best decision ever!!!
I think it is really important to also enroll them in puppy classes, it's SO important for them to be socialized with other dogs. And bring them inside, they need to bond with you all as well :)
If the pups don’t get out once a day to ‘migrate’ aka a sniff walk or fetch to burn energy, they become destructive. 10-20 minutes a day walking/fetch running, 5 minutes of Basic Training commands/treats and they will be wonderful family pets. Early exposure to other people, noises, and pets on leash will really help. They learn every square of inch of any size property with their nose so still need to smell new things on walks 💛
@Whitney That’s great to hear. I’m going to guess your beloved pup was allowed in the house with you and your parent didn’t just give ‘it’ away after 4 years. Dogs are beyond wonderful to those who let them into their hearts. Your pup was as fortunate to have you as you were them.
We've had a Max and Molly at our house! They were such loved dogs!! Max was a Yorkie and Molly was a miniature poodle. Max was my dog and still miss him, even though he passed many years years ago. Best Dog Ever!! Sweet Molly passed before Max, Molly was my kids' dog and oh how they loved her. Sad Days at our home when they crossed the Rainbow Bridge!
We adopted two puppy sisters. Only wanted one but then the other would have been left all alone as she was the last one in the litter. Best choice ever! They keep each other company and one sits in my lap and one sits on my husband’s lap.... so fun and completes our family.
But, these won't be lap dogs as they'll be outside and not family house dogs. Also, Tom clearly doesn't want the dogs. No complaint about Tom, it's just that he probably has his own reasons. These two really need to be on the same page.
I've been involved with dogs for years and (am a breeder). Even though you live on a farm, I would highly suggest that you enroll them both in puppy training class to teach them the basics as well as get them socialized.
Whoever said Rusty and Minnie (Rusty Judgement/ Minimal Mom) LOVE it because I thought the exact same thing and then read through all the comments and said... Yup!!! Totally my thought. They are totally adorable!!
I used to work at wildlife rehab center. You live on a farm so wildlife is imminent. You avoid them, they avoid you unless there’s food. Find out where the critters are getting in and set it up so they can’t anymore and make sure they can’t get free meals. It’s not fair for your dogs to potentially get disease/injuries from wildlife either by not backing off and letting the critters escape (a likely outcome).
lol. Yea the kids will get tired of caring for them especially when they have something else to do!!! Good luck with that!! I’m confused. Did you get your yellow lab back? I hope you didn’t get rid of that one for 2 puppies. They are not puppies for long.
Please DO NOT leave their collars on while in the crate and make sure they are in a heated building. If you wanna prove that you’re ready to be a Dog Mom, bring them inside 😃 Of course our pets are family, just a few more dog and cat hairs but wouldn’t change it....
My dog almost died because her tag went through the wire part and turned so she was choking! Fortunately it happened in our bedroom and while my husband ran for scissors (took to long) I turned the cage upside down (dog and all) and she was almost dead but luckily we had a good outcome!
Haters gonna hate. You got this! Team Dawn!!! Glad you made the right decision for YOU! Love that you will have dogs with foster kids. That’s going to be a great experience for all. And I’ve always wanted a dog named “Daisy” but we’ve always rescued so I’ve never gotten to name one. Moose & Maisy. 🤷🏻♀️. Excited to hear what you choose.
Awwww so sweet! Congratulations 👏 I thought it was so sweet that you could see Maggie wanted to pet the black puppy but hesitated because she was thinking you all were only getting the chocolate one!☺💕
All I can think of is Coco Beans! 😂 Coco the female and Beans for the male. Especially if he gets chunky. And yes it makes sense. You’ve got the space for Cow Puppies :P
I think you’re bananas and there’s a big conversation that you’ve opened up by buying puppies, particularly before even starting your fostering journey, but if you want a masculine name then I’m suggesting Coal, and Mins for the girl x
My thoughts exactly.. I'm thinking she gets frustrated over a houseplant and goes out and gets two puppies? 🤔 But I hope she can prove us wrong. The kid's are old enough to help out.
@@tinkpix425 Not being a plant person has nothing to do with not being a pet person! Same with kids! It's three different things!.. I know many that are into plants & kids but not animals/pets, others are into pets and plants but not kids, and then again some others are into kids & pets! It's just about what you like/care for more and what you want to take responsibility for!
I only know what I see on the videos you post. But from what I know about myself and what I see. It looks to me like you are trying to fill a void in you somewhere. (Dawn) That’s why you get a dog, give it away and then get two. It’s why you want more kids and to foster. It’s why you keep adding more everyday to your plate. It took me a long time to be happy with myself where I am in life and to not add more to mad me feel happier. If that makes sense. I’m not saying it will heal completely or that’s even the case for you. I don’t want to come across rude. It just has been making me sad watching your videos lately because I can relate to what I’m seeing. What started me on my journey is reading the 5 love languages of children. It made me see how my childhood help shape who I was, then I went from there. Only sending love, and I really do hope it works out this time with the puppies! Side note- please get them fixed, and make sure they have separate crates, it will get cramped fast in there with two. 💓
She gave a valid reason for needing a dog. If you haven’t lived in the country, you haven’t got a clue as to what dogs truly love to do, given a choice.
My heart just went ZING to see these enthusiastic puppies with your darling kids - life is good! (I can't wait to hear all the clever puppy names to come.)
Buckle up , my lab was the hardest dog I ever trained!! Year one was cute mostly , year 2 was hell, years 3-12 were awesome. I think having them raised as outside dogs you don’t get the true companionship bond that you build with a dog that’s always by your side. But that’s just speculative as I was raised with/ owned indoor dogs.
I need to say I love your channel. I have learned so much from you and your sister. Always the “butt” so disappointed on this video on the dogs. Dogs should be more than just thought about getting a dog for about a week!! What? they are such a commitment. And you want a dog husband doesn't. My thoughts are they are a family member. You both need to agree. Just like bringing a child into the family dynamic. Thank you for listening to me.
You will train those pups much easier if they are indoors with the family. They soon learn acceptable behaviour being part of a human pack. Of course they will be excitable and a little unruly at first, but they will become much more bonded and protective of you all. They are no different than any living creature, they respond so much better to love and inclusion.
Very good advice. The only way to teach them is to spend time with them. Keeping them outside in a crate for long periods only teaches them that they are a dog pack of 2. I truly hope the dogs confinement to the crate when they're outside is temporary. Please tell me with all that property, you will create a safe enclosed area for the dogs to run, play & explore.
If the girls are to be the primary care givers, they should name them. Maybe have them cite a character they LOVE from a book they LOVE. The names probably won't be matchy-matchy, but they'll be excellent names! Oh, and another thing! Just an opinion but, don't name them for their looks!
I personally love names that are more rare and not overused. So here is my favorite suggestion. For the male black puppy my suggestion is Onyx. Since Dawn mentioned names that are similar, then another gem of a name for the female would be Amber. Tom: These names are awesome rockin" names!! Right? LOL!! Good Luck!!
We bought a brother and sister pup and it was the best decision ever! They are constantly playing with each other! We didn’t think training was very difficult with two either. There’s more for cuddling and playing! You all will do great! 💛
You don't have to worry about possums! They are good, you want them around. They eat ticks and other insects and don't actually carry rabies, a common assumption. 🙂
Wonder how long foster kids will last until she returns them because they ‘didn’t work out’? She’s already come out and said they were relieved to learn you could pass them on for ‘not working out’...
@@Sunshine-nr6qe why follow her if you're going to have the negative thoughts and feelings? Some people have a lower threshold for what they can handle behavior wise
@@BickyToya I used to follow her. No longer. Unsubscribed. I’m here because the outpouring of concern due to both animal neglect and coupled with previous not compassionate sounding comments about foster children restores my faith in humanity.
Ya, I’m confused?! What happened to Kona? Is she still just with your brother??! Probably not a good idea to get more dogs when you already have one? How is this minimalism???
Let them be pets too. Labs are so social and loving. Don't ban them outside. They are family and would be sad if you got rid of them when tired of them. I always felt sorry for your other lab. Please not stuck in the barn. Labs are not farm dogs. They need affection.
Doctors opinion here: I don't believe all questions or comments are judging but asking questions, being concerned of animals welfare just as the social worker has interviewed and asked them about where potential foster children being in their care. Not everyone understands the reasoning of why the animals, or to the majority of people - pets, aren't inside the home with the family. I also asked many questions as it is confusing for followers to understand if these are farm hands or family pets.
I think there is a different understanding depending on where you were raised. I was raised in a large city and have a hard time understanding the idea of always keeping dogs outside but my college roommate who grew up on a farm cannot understand why you would have a dog in the house. It is just different circumstances. And I'm guessing those kids will play with them a ton!!
Dogs need attention and love. They are not just there to chase away the raccoons. You have them in a small crate in a dark barn? I don't understand. Shelters are full of dogs from owners who didn't understand what it means to have a pet. Please treat them well and understand the decision you made.
I also think that was so sad they were in a crate in the barn .... not ok in my book. I can somewhat understand if they would be allowed outside on their property to run freely .... but not crates in a barn , never to have the warmth, attention and love of a home.
Pets aren't people 😊 it is totally normal for farms to have "outside" pets. And it's normal for puppies to sleep in a kennel their first few nights. They were saying that the kids were playing with the puppies all day. They probably will have the run of the farm once they are trained and won't run away. Dawn showed one 30-secind clip of letting the pups out if the kennel. We can't really know anything about the care of the puppies from that ☺️
@@ashleyr8738 I didn’t say pets are people. I said they need love and attention. We know this family already got rid of one dog. Their track record shows they are not necessarily in it for the long haul.
"Lord willing!" I love that sentiment. Its more than just a saying to me. I grew up hearing it from my father and grandmother. It was never used as an excuse but as a statement of faith in God's grace provided to us. Have a blessed weekend. God Bless
I adopted two puppies (brothers) they were AMAZING dogs! We actually just adopted a Border Collie puppy a few weeks ago. ❤️ the hardest part of training a dog is training the children how to interact with the dog
I could never figure out why people want dogs and don’t keep them in the house to love them and enjoy them. I guess farmers just think like they are cattle. Not an important part of their lives. Just their to serve a purpose what ever that might be. I feel sorry for the pups because the kids will get tired of taking care of them.
And they are kept soooo far from the house 🏘️ ☹️ - I have five dogs and where I go in the house they go too. Except the guest bedroom as guests deserve some dog free space or because they have brought their own dog with them.
We’ve had a hard time with training dogs in the past, but we got one in November. Being home and having kids that are old enough to help is a game changer! Our 7mo old is better behaved than many other adult dogs I’ve been around! It seems like you’re committed to making it work! Keep it up!
I think it is a fine idea to get the 2 dogs, and you have a nice big property for them to run around in, and the girls are just the right age to take care of them... I'm just a little surprised though... Your mantra has always been "Less Inventory - Less to Manage"... even going so far as to have 5 dinner plates in your kitchen...! Taking in 2 dogs is completely opposite of that... you just added 2 more hugely time consuming things to manage into your household! and the added Inventory of dog food, dog dishes, dog beds, leashes, dog toys, walking the dog, washing the dog, feeding the dog, playing with the dog!!! (but they are sweet!) Names: Rocky (him) and Rhoda (her)... after my fav. ice cream!
Yes agree..this was shocking actually. Two puppies as adorable as they are will need care and training....way more time, more work, more expense, more clean up unless you never let them in the house Best of luck. Seriously have watched for a long time and I've your channel. The other thing is moving that big shed...wowsers, had you thought of investing that money for your kids futures or your retirement 🤔
Reality is, if Mom wants a dog, you get a dog. That’s how it worked for us. Glad to see the girls are so into training...it will create a special bond for them🥰. Your little dude does look like a solid little guy.
I was thinking of Bonnie and Clyde, too! I think it is fun to name a boy and girl pet after a famous couple. Romeo & Juliet...Mickey & Minnie...Donald & Daisy...Lucy & Ricky...Barney & Betty...Simba & Nala!
Labs are people dogs. Leaving them alone outside really isn't the best option for them. I've raised 6 labs over the years, and it's a ton of work. As far as them keeping critters away, labs would not have been my first choice, but I wish you luck.
I was really excited and teared up when ya'll adopted both puppies but was quickly disappointed. Hopefully you both figure things out fast. It's been said a bunch of times but I think it bears repeating so you both truly understand. Dogs are not meant to be kept in a barn in a very tiny crate with no access to water. I enjoy your channel and you are the reason my home is so nice and organized and minimal now and I respect you. But I did NOT respect that. That needs to be fixed. Also, one should probably show a more united front when it comes to adopting animals. Tom does NOT seem on board at all and children and animals can sense that. You laugh it off and so does he but I don't really think it's funny. Why get animals if not everyone is on board?
We just lost our black lab. He was fifteen years old. His name was Dudley and that fit him perfectly and we never ran into another dog (or person) named Dudley. He was a one of a kind!
not a fan these poor animals will live in a barn alone in Minnesota. And wait you have had dogs and haven't kept them before....a recipe for disaster. dogs are not something to try on again and again. a life long commitment who crave and love time with people.
Okay so I am from Australia, our famous bush ranger (I think you say outlaw)is Ned Kelly. Two great names, happens to be the names of my fish. So how about Jessie and James which happens to be the names of two of my dogs, (and they are the best dogs in the world) happy to share. Also thank you from the bottom of my heart, your channel offers me friendship, great company and lifesaving help and advice. From a grateful single of Mum of the most adorable foster kids. I’ve been fostering for over 30 years. It’s a calling. Bless you and your family.
I heard once that for dog names it’s best to keep to two syllables. More than that it is harder for them to learn their names and is puzzling to them. Less than that it gets confusing with commands that are often one syllable like sit and stay.
My dogs name is Dalija. And she's ok with thatm learned it pretty quick. She was a rescue so we kept it even though she nevwr hered it. We git her from a dog pound not a rescue center.
I’m concerned about the dogs being kept in a crate in the barn. They need to be a part of the family. Our dogs have always loved their crates. Please consider bringing them in with you at night at least. 💜
I will say that I lived in the country for a couple years and our dogs lived outside of the shed - we had straw/blankets and you can have coils for heat in a regular dog house. Our dogs that lived outside loved us because the kids and I were outside all the time. When we moved to the city our male lab was miserable and hot being indoors. All my dogs since then have had to be inside but they outside dogs were just as attached and loving as our inside dogs. my outside dogs were so happy. I say happier than my inside dogs - they are able to play and run - chew wood - go to the bathroom in the woods away from the house and my girls and I were always outside for them. You would be surprised on how warm a barn can be.
@@angiboz we basically lived outdoors - I have been around a lot of farm dogs and the people I know love their dogs and visa versa - dogs love to work with their owners. On my brothers property there are multiple immediate family homes and they all have dogs. The dogs visit all the homes and there is someone around all the time. his dog comes in when it is super cold - but it is the happiest dog. during the summer he and the other 3 dogs go swimming in the pond - and there are always kids around. They are truly loved and rarely alone.
As a country-raised girl, I don't think this is true. The puppies are just sleeping outside. They are getting played with all day, and wouldn't be getting nighttime attention anyway. Plus they got two so that they can keep each other company.
They are adorable!!!! You guys should get a pen (only bigger) like they were in when you went to see them, so that way they have room to move around and can drink water whenever they want. We had a pen for our family dog and our grand dog to keep each other company they had a lot of room to lay down
We have lots of wildlife around our home, we encourage the opossums. Our dogs are trained not to harm the opossums. We have cute pictures of the occasional times our dogs and the opossum family are hanging out together on our porch. They aren't the "cutest" and "fluffiest" of animals but they eat tons of harmful bugs, snakes, and rats. Good luck on your new puppies. We suggest Ace and Delta.
Maverick and Marlee! Boy and girl. Love the puppies. Do you mean they never come in the house? How will they be family dogs? I would lobe to know why you gave the other one away?
Labs need to be kept in the house and outside to run around not just kept outside in a barn they are very much cuddle bugs i have a lab and pointer any breed should be kept inside and outside for exploring and play
WTH has gotten into people? My labs & foo-foos have loved the outdoors as much as I do. I’m dog sitting 3 old foo-foos right now, & it’s a chore trying to them inside & out of the pond.
@@sunshine3914 i know you miss understood my comment i said dogs should go and be outside to play and run around as much as possible but also have access to their home whenever they want to be inside my lab pointer are inside whenever they want to be and sleep right beside me at night. I have an opinion and thats that have a great day
I think it is wonderful you are allowing the kids the responsibility of taking care of the puppies. I learned when I was young to take care of puppies and it is a solid life lesson. Now for names I like Cocoa and Cupcake
Totally agree...they should be indoor dogs and with the family. How would humans like being out in a barn in a crate; all alone (even with a sibling); cruel.
When I saw the black lab all I could think of was "Bear." But I like other animal names for pets, it's funny to me. Imagine telling people you have a tiger and a bear. Or a rhino at home lol I do agree with another poster, to be mindful of foster kids who might have names of the dogs. You don't want to be yelling "Bella" across the yard and a foster child be worried you're yelling at them, instead.
I love your videos, but I agree with the comments. Keeping the puppies in crates outside in the barn, especially if it’s not properly heated, is not a suitable living situation. Please bring them inside. You could keep them in the laundry room at night if you don’t want them in the bedrooms. Also keep in mind that they are still babies and need extra nurturing at this age. And the crate they have now is too small for the two of them. I hope it works out for you all.
It’s kind of sad to see them in a crate in a barn all alone. I’m not a farm girl so our dogs were always part of the family. I hope they get a lot of time with people.
I don’t like them being in the barn!! 😢😢 my dog are always in the house with the family and they LOVE their crate, they always go in on their own to sleep 🥰
I kind of feel the same. I grew up spending most of my time on my grandparents farm. They had farm dogs who were mostly outdoors, but had access to a heated and cooled shed where their food and water was. If there was ever severe weather they were put in the basement of the house. I think (and I hope) when they grow up these dogs will have more freedom to roam and a temperature controlled environment to live in.
It's only been 72 hours. I'm sure they'll make their way to the house. Plus they won't fit in there much longer. Our most recent dog was in the kennel for about a week until we could figure out the structure of routine and to keep him from running off. Now he sleeps in the bed with our teen. Adjustments are temporary.
It looked like she was letting them out one last time before bed. I imagine she has to contain them especially in the evenings when she's tucking her kids into bed so that the puppies don't wander off. Trust me, with four who are homeschooled and around all day, those puppies will be lucky to get alone time!! Puppies also need lots of sleep in the beginning! Just like an infant. I think it's wonderful that they will have each other to snuggle with at night!❤
Why would you get rid of your other dog to get two puppies? This saddens me. Our family just rescued a 13 year old schnauzer because the family no longer wanted him because they had a new baby. That dog was a part of their family for 13 years and they just tossed him away. Pets are family for life.
The other dog lived in the barn, alone. Dawn wants dogs, but not in her house. Why give away your pet and replace with 2 more? Another spontaneous buy....what could go wrong? Someone always gets her way.
I am a new subscriber and was really enjoying your videos but this one not so much my feeling is that dogs need people it is sad to see them in a cage and in a barn. They are still babies...
@@texasmimi5566 That's ridiculous...they're mature enough to be responsible for feeding and training the dog but not picking a name? Even the silliest name won't do the animal any harm.
I have a Ruby she is a Maltese x and her brother is Bobby we also have a Husky named Shadow. When we were growing up we had a black lab named Lady she was one of the best dogs we ever had but owning a husky has opened my eyes they are fantastic babysitters when my grandson was born I was looking after him and Shadow wouldn’t leave his side when his dad came to pick him up Shadow got really upset now 2 years later Shadow and Braydan are inseparable they are always getting into mischief together. And where one is the other will be
I’m not sure about this. It feels like out with the old and in with the new. Also, dogs need to be with you. Sure they have each other, but they need to bond with you.
Completely agreed. Dawn has inspired me in so many ways to embrace practical minimalism, but after watching dozens and dozens of her videos, I'm afraid that she embraces the one-in-one-out mindset too much. Minimalism should be the opposite of consumerism -- being happy with less and happy with what you already have, rather than constantly replacing and cycling through items. Again, hate to be nasty, but a couple examples from Dawn's videos -- first, in the whole house declutter video in March, all the decor and such that was discarded even though it was new with tags. I appreciated her openness in showing these buying mistakes, but obviously not buying these items we don't need in the first place and showing some restraint is the goal we should be striving for. Second, the fact that she dedicated a whole bin in her hallway closet to "Returns" -- I guess good that she is realizing when she gets home that she doesn't need an item, but it still seems like so much impulse buying is happening. I'm afraid that is also what happened with these two puppies.
I always thought our neighbors named their dogs well. No people names for their animals, which was always intriguing to me. Cedar-- Chisel- Diesel. I know they are only boy names pretty much... would love to know what the children want. And seriously, in my humble opinion, they’re your dogs 😁 name them what YOU want! 😁 happy Easter ! The boy has to be RUSTY (After Rusty Judgement!) And the girl has to be MINNIE (after The Minimal Mom)!!!
Adorable suggestions! 💚
The bestest suggestion!
That’s cute!
So cute!
Yep! Totally agree. The people who look after them should have THEIR votes most heavily weighted! 😏
Good idea
I agree. Also, the person that doesn't want them probably doesn't get to choose the names, no? lol My 4 yr old, at the time, named our cat Robert.
☝🏼💯 Agreed!
Absolutely agree!
Well worth the effort ! Essential.
Aspen (my 2.5y/o gsd) and Suki ( 8 months old terrier mix) agree with you😂
yeah, seeing them living in the shed is kinda sad
Especially labs. This makes me so sad.
Puppies! I've been waiting for more dog content. It was weird how Kona never showed up in your videos. I really hope you decide to let these two inside.
I watched this channel for a long time and never knew they had a dog til recently. Then they threw that one away and now 2 puppies. 🙄
I’m shocked. So adorable. Please don’t keep them outside all the time. They need to be part of the family.
ONE WORD- Leash!! Daily walking them on a leash, is one of the most important training tip. Each of you walking them develops bonding, control and good social skills (especially when they are around other people)
Nice I got on Dec. 19th a GREAT PYRENEES SHEPHERD. It. Takes a GREAT DEAL OF TIME an EFFORT !!! ❤️💙💜
I had my yellow lab for 13.5 years. He was just a special, special boy! He loved everyone and everyone loved him. Labradors are the best dog ever!!❤❤
I think the dogs will be better behaved if they get used to spending at least some of the day in the house with the family and learning what’s expected. I’d definitely recommend some classes to socialise the dogs and it will give the girls confidence in handling them too.
Highly recommend socializing them with other dogs if you plan to take them anywhere with you.
She bought a training video online, she thinks she's all set. SMH
Tom doesn’t like pets in the house so they shouldn’t own any dogs or cats
Ditto😂
I grew up in a home not much larger than yours. Family of 6. Pets were happily kept in the home....including German Shepherds/Collie. They make the best cuddle buddies and friends.
Luke and Penny
I’d definitely bring them in the house for bonding with the fam...like 2 hours a day.
I got a puppy when I was 12 and had her for 16 years. I learned so much responsibility. They will cherish these dogs ❤. ROSIE and RASCAL
Oh! I got a puppy at 11 and she lived for 17 years! ❤️❤️❤️
@Whitney That’s great to hear. I’m going to guess your beloved pup was allowed in the house with you and your parent didn’t just give ‘it’ away after 4 years. Dogs are beyond wonderful to those who let them into their hearts. Your pup was as fortunate to have you as you were them.
@@Sunshine-nr6qe Yes, she was loved by the whole family 😊. Her country dog lifestyle wouldn't haven worked in my college apts. Lol
Max and Molly! If we ever have two dogs that’s the names we’re using. They’re super cute!
Like these, too!
excellent names :)
Great names
I love Max and Molly!!
I agree! Game changer
Almost choked on my lunch with the line: "You want puppies, I want COWS!" 😂
Get the cows too!!!
I think she wants steak!
I think TOM wants steak!
Puppy names: Steak & Sass
#teamTom GET COWS!!
Please DO NOT leave their collars on while in the crate and make sure they are in a heated building. If you wanna prove that you’re ready to be a Dog Mom, bring them inside 😃
Of course our pets are family, just a few more dog and cat hairs but wouldn’t change it....
My dog almost died because her tag went through the wire part and turned so she was choking! Fortunately it happened in our bedroom and while my husband ran for scissors (took to long) I turned the cage upside down (dog and all) and she was almost dead but luckily we had a good outcome!
Wow I've never thought about this. Thanks!
I hope the minimal mom can learn something from this comment.
If you want to make training easier, make the names distinct from any family member's or each other and easy to hear clearly from a distance.
When naming the dogs, imagine yourself yelling for them out the back door!
Oh good one!!!
YES, our neighbor's pet was named "Moo" and it was funny seeing her in the front yard calling her!!!
Yes I had a dog and named her Wednesday. Fun at the park 😂 calling her 🐾🐾
We thought the same when we named our kids! 😂
Congrats on the pups!
Tank and Tawni
Ruger and Remmi
Beans!! Love it. 🤣
I love that! Cocoa & Beans
@@eviewesner6231 I like that spelling for Cocoa even better!
@@eviewesner6231 Reading the other comments I really like your idea of Simple and Mini. Or Minnie :)
Cute! Love both names.
House OTH: Your observation concerning Dawn is absolutely spot on.
Very astute of you.
Absolutely this! Have you noticed a trend where UA-camrs move just so they will have more content? It’s appalling
I love you guys, but this vid made me sad. Why labs for outside?
Buckle up , my lab was the hardest dog I ever trained!! Year one was cute mostly , year 2 was hell, years 3-12 were awesome. I think having them raised as outside dogs you don’t get the true companionship bond that you build with a dog that’s always by your side. But that’s just speculative as I was raised with/ owned indoor dogs.
Same. The most challenging breed the first two years.
I think ALL dogs the first two years. At least my big dogs. After 2 years....beautiful!!!!
I love Maverick and Masie. They sure are cute!!!
Jack& Jill
Adam & Eve
Black & Brownie
Chocolate & Chip
Coco & Coffee
Simple & Mini (for minimal)
Love Maverick and Maisie!! Yell those names out loud and a dog will know you are calling them.
I have a Maverick 😊
Jeeeh Maverick and Maisie 🤗🐶🐶
I need to say I love your channel. I have learned so much from you and your sister. Always the “butt” so disappointed on this video on the dogs.
Dogs should be more than just thought about getting a dog for about a week!! What? they are such a commitment. And you want a dog husband doesn't. My thoughts are they are a family member. You both need to agree. Just like bringing a child into the family dynamic. Thank you for listening to me.
I just love you guys so much! Thank you for the laughs. You guys are so brave with the two puppies. Can't wait to see your success! Samson and Esther
I love Ester and Samson!!! 💖

Puppy Names: Mini (girl) for minimalism and Major (boy) for all the major projects you take on!
good job,,,,you thought that out
Those are cute!
I second!
Love these
You will train those pups much easier if they are indoors with the family.
New carpet plus puppies spells disaster.
Right? LOL!! Good Luck!!
I like your idea. We named our yellow lab Sapphire because that was her birthstone.
My favs so far.
We bought a brother and sister pup and it was the best decision ever! They are constantly playing with each other! We didn’t think training was very difficult with two either. There’s more for cuddling and playing! You all will do great! 💛
They will live in the BARN? In crates?
Crate training helps them get potty trained.
You don't have to worry about possums! They are good, you want them around. They eat ticks and other insects and don't actually carry rabies, a common assumption. 🙂
Absolutely true! The poor things have a bad rep :(
They also each chicken heads tho!
They carry a disease that can kill horses.
I love possums lol
Super beneficial! I blame Princess. Bride and ROUS for the negative association. 😆
Why did you give Kona away? Don’t the kids miss him? 😢😢😢
I was wondering the same thing about Kona.
I agree .... I was so heartbroken to see they were in a create in the barn .... so sad for such social dogs!!! Not a fan
Agree 100%. Hopefully what we saw was just temporary. I will say, I believe they should always have access to water.
@@traciecarlson4706 , or, unfortunately, will get bored with them in due time....
@@karenann5283 agree! And did you hear her evil laugh after she said they’d thought about this for a week? Creepy!
People can and will be calling their local humane investigator to do random wellness checks. So I guess it’s good they let us know we need to do that.
We are ranchers and our dog is a family member and we keep him in the house.
And they are kept soooo far from the house 🏘️ ☹️ - I have five dogs and where I go in the house they go too. Except the guest bedroom as guests deserve some dog free space or because they have brought their own dog with them.
Pets aren't people and they can be perfectly cared for and still sleep outside 😊
We’ve had a hard time with training dogs in the past, but we got one in November. Being home and having kids that are old enough to help is a game changer! Our 7mo old is better behaved than many other adult dogs I’ve been around! It seems like you’re committed to making it work! Keep it up!
Great choice for puppies! Honey and Bear !
LOVE THIS!!!!
@@schwendimama7905 me too!
I too came up with Bear.....but couldn't think of the female equivalent. I love Honey!! Great job!
(but they are sweet!)
Names: Rocky (him) and Rhoda (her)... after my fav.
She recently got rid of a plant because it was too much to manage....doesn't bode well for two dogs.
Aww. When I saw the two puppies and knew you were going to get just one, it nearly broke my heart. I'm so happy that you gave them both a home. : )
Reality is, if Mom wants a dog, you get a dog. That’s how it worked for us. Glad to see the girls are so into training...it will create a special bond for them🥰. Your little dude does look like a solid little guy.
Mom is also the one eventually taking care of the dog, so that's why it works. 😂
@@cathrino I know that to be true!! Lol
She’s a minimalist...why does she want more work?
Why did you give Kona away and get two more dogs??
I was thinking this exact thing. That behavior makes me furious. Getting two puppies because the other dog was “getting older.”
Sorry, confused, what happened to your original dog that you got your brother to look after????
Probably the same thing that’ll happen to a foster child.
That is my question, too. How can someone be so cruel to "get rid" of a dog and get 2 "new" dogs? This makes me so sad and mad, too.
Daisy and Duke! They are beautiful dogs! Puppies are so much fun!
Puppies are always trouble... but fun. Labs usually turn out to be great family dogs. How about Bonnie and Clyde? Lol
That was my first thought for names! Great mind! Lol

Oh~ good one!
Labs are people dogs. Leaving them alone outside really isn't the best option for them. I've raised 6 labs over the years, and it's a ton of work. As far as them keeping critters away, labs would not have been my first choice, but I wish you luck.

Oooh! Iove that!
I suggested Cash and Carter (my kitties names) after them ☺️
I was really excited and teared up when ya'll adopted both puppies but was quickly disappointed.
Our black lab's name is Ace. Perfect name for a black lab, and he knows he is #1! ❤️
My son’s cat is Ace 💕
Wait do these dogs live outside in Minnesota? And in a crate together? I’m a little confused with that.
They will be in a heated building when it's cold out, and it's normal for puppies to sleep in a kennel for their first few nights ☺️
@@ashleyr8738 Yes, it's normal for puppies to sleep in a kennel, but not such a TINY one. And how do you know the building will be heated?

I heard once that for dog names it’s best to keep to two syllables. More than that it is harder for them to learn their names and is puzzling to them. Less than that it gets confusing with commands that are often one syllable like sit and stay.
My dogs name is Dalija. And she's ok with thatm learned it pretty quick. She was a rescue so we kept it even though she nevwr hered it. We git her from a dog pound not a rescue center.
Honey and Bear!!!
Sweet like Honey
Big like a Bear!!!
But Tom might get confused thinking Dawn is calling for him! "Come here Honey bear!"
Dogs/cats are happy when they are with you. Big yard, big house, apartment it doesn’t matter they love being with us!
I think they are meant to be ‘working’ dogs. The reason they added dogs was the critters getting into the buildings.
@@kristinesharp6286 Yes. And that is cruel. Dogs are so social and it is cruel to keep them outside of house and family. The family is their pack.
The boy looks like a Diesel, Bear or Cole to me. Bonny and Clyde? Lol. Cute puppies!
Love the Bonnie and Clyde ! 👍
I was thinking the same thing! Haha
I thought Bonnie and Clyde too
I think Bonnie and Clyde would be great names. We have had two Chocolate Labs....wonderful pets but will chew up creation😠
I have had labs in the past, they really need to live inside with the family.
Agreed!
Very social dogs...they need their people or they'll go find their own.
As a country-raised girl, I don't think this is true. The puppies are just sleeping outside. They are getting played with all day, and wouldn't be getting nighttime attention anyway. Plus they got two so that they can keep each other company.
@@ashleyr8738 I am originally from Texas, and raised a hunting lab in Western Pennsylvania, I just have a different opinion. :)
Yes, and they are really unlikely to carry diseases and especially rabies! Opossums are misunderstood.
I have an opinion and thats that have a great day
maybe I missed it, but will you have your older dog back as well? so in total of 3 dogs then?
Duke and Daisy is actually really cute and and really easy when you're yelling for them to come to you specially on all that land
I think it is wonderful you are allowing the kids the responsibility of taking care of the puppies. I learned when I was young to take care of puppies and it is a solid life lesson. Now for names I like Cocoa and Cupcake
Puppies should be part of the family. Sad they have to be outside.
@@annamcg928 They got two so they could have each other, as they do not have pets in the house.
I wondered this too.
She gave him to her brother after he dog sat for her. I get the impression it was planned. It didn’t sound like the dog was tossed away.
@@madamogee9041 Okay, I bet you are right. I'm sure that's why she was so comfortable talking about it, she knows the other pup is well-loved.
Sounds like their older dog fell in love with her brother, so stayed there!
If the children are expected to be responsible for the dogs, they should have the opportunity to name them.
Yessssss
Within reason. They are not mature enough to name pets without some input from adults.
@@texasmimi5566 That's ridiculous...they're mature enough to be responsible for feeding and training the dog but not picking a name? Even the silliest name won't do the animal any harm.
Max and Ruby😊 That is what we called our 2 beagles. Have fun with them.I’m sure you all will do a great job training them.🦮
I have a Ruby she is a Maltese x and her brother is Bobby we also have a Husky named Shadow.
Absolutely better to have 2. They get distressed if left alone 🐕🐕
True, now they can suffer together~!
Jack and Jill. Short, one syllable and easy. Manly Jack and sweet Jill. And they go together. Good luck!
This was what my cousins names their dogs! They were the best dogs. Perfect name ❤️
Love this
I always thought our neighbors named their dogs well. He is Risen!! Hallelujah!!
How about Gunner and Gayle? But really, I think your girls should name them if they are caring for them. 😊
I am sure you can work it into the home school curriculum. Labs are wonderful, and need lots of people time. We had a black lab named Tom, Golden lab named Huck.
Love the names!
There are dogs made for outside work...Dawn likes to bring on sudden projects...is this a short term project considering her history with dogs?
Don't know why, but Mack & Mable just popped in my head 😀 🐕🐕
