I feel like this falls into a really niche category of people that don't want a "ready to print" machine like Bambu or Creality, but also don't have the time/money/skill to make a Voron. I appreciate the effort & the content, but the hardware is a half-measured solution of all fronts.
It’s the time aspect for me. I don’t have 30 or 40 hours for a Voron build. At best I have 3 hours. This is feasible, but I am awaiting to see what the Bambu XL has in store for us.
In a lot of ways it’s the best of both worlds. You get the open source, moddable nature of the Voron, with the quicker setup process of a Bambu/Creality (albeit 3 hours versus 30 minutes). It also happens to be cheaper than both, so there’s that too. The target market for this is bigger than you might expect.
Just started my 3d printing hobby with a bambu lab P1S. Because I just wanted to print without worries. Now I'm evolving Into the tinkerer category but just don't see myself building a Voron (yet), so for me this would be a great option.
This is a gateway drug. Closest we got to an open source bambu element that isnt cbt for anyone who doesnt have an engimeering degree. Some people are more tinkery than straight up manufactury. If i wasnt a cheapass id buy that. I definately prefer this over whatever bambu is selling.
I feel like it's more of a printer for people who have grown past stuff like Enders and Ender clones, people where they want to be able to upgrade and fix their machine on their own but also don't want to go around sourcing $1k worth of parts and assembling them all from scratch. It's like saying there's no market for a prebuilt gaming PC running Windows when you could just buy a Macintosh.
This is so cool! I've been looking into a voron 0.2 because I wanted to build something complex, but this is such an awesome alternative for those who just want to buy these in bulk and have open source in mind!

The Teamgloomy site states that the Troodon V2 internals in the print head are designed for a maximum of 2.5A (which equates to 60 watts at 24v). Formbot sells a Stealthburner Extruder for Troodon 2.0 with a choice of Dragon High Flow hotends, so I'm thinking that in its default state the Troodon could handle some 60W HF hotends. If my reasoning is correct. Anyway, I like the fact that Formbot is trying to improve Troodon. Changing the bearings in the extruder. Switching to a Klipper, or TAP RC8 already in the stock equipment. I already have an order in, and that's mostly thanks to you. Thanks so much for what you do =)
I think it could handle 60W in theory, but without a safety factor. A Formbot engineer at one point advised no more than 50. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.
Althought there's no official upgrade product, email support, they will give you a quote for a non pro Troodon 2.0 to pro upgrade. Comes with all the parts you need, mine came within 2 weeks, shipped from China, paid for by PayPal. Well worth the upgrade.
I didn't even notice the full Troodon 2.0 was now a "Pro" model when I ordered last week. Any idea when they might release the "Pro" upgrade kit for the Troodon 2.0 from last year? (I've asked Formbot as well but it can take them some time to reply to emails). BTW, if you don't install the acrylic on the top of the Troodon, you can reclaim some of the lost Z height that the StealthBurner takes away because of its added height.
I just got the troodon 2.0 last week and have been loving it .the place i ordered from gave a phaetus uhf hotend from 3d printers bay, it seems the people that own formbot are selling some through them with upgrades available. I hope I didn't buy the new hotend in vein tho, as it was an option for upgrading on their site. It ships separately from the machine, and has to be installed. I have a message into them asking them for instructions on how to install it if the toolhead board doesn't support the rated power, hopefully I will hear back tomorrow from them.
Hi Taylor. Thinking about buying one of the pro minis. What are the assembled printer dimensions? The dimensions on the website seem too big. 500+x500+mm for a 250x250mm build plate. Thanks.
I own Prusa systems, Bambu X1C printers, an older Troodon 2.0 from last year, and a self-built Voron 2.4r2 350. The Troodon is quieter than the Bambus and the Voron (I should have picked quieter fans for my Voron), but louder than the Prusa printers.
SV07Plus with slight tuning in Klipper + Profile can do 12:00 Benchy without drastic quality drop. ~15-16min with perfect print finish. Limiter is cooling to have 12:00 perfect, and beyond that driver voltage.
That being said, I REALLY REALLY want to like the Troodon, but it just keeps slightly falling short for me to fork out the cash for it :( I wish i knew reprap would've been just as good as Klipper tho, i would've probably bought a troodon already
I am looking for an upgrade to the Artillery genius printers I have. I don't nessasarrly need to print fast. I need good quality and quiet. The mini pro might be what I am looking for. It has the build volume I want and the corexy design. The need to upgrade is hard because I am getting good quality from the printers I have. The technology is getting old and listening to your review of the sidwinder x3 reminded me that I have had all of the problems you talked about. Would I be trading one set of problems for another?
After watching your videos, I acquired a Troodon almost a year ago. By the way, thanks for the work, which motivated me to take on this project. Since then, it's been converted to a Klipper / StealthBurner, as well as a Dragon UHF hotend. Unfortunately, the flow rates were way below my expectations. However, did you notice that the PT1000 thermistor is off by more than 30°C at 200°C (< 170°C), when connected to the Octopus X7 (or the analog input of an SB2209/ SB2240)? I also had similar flow rates, for example a Polymaker Polyterra at 13 mm³/s. After connecting the PT1000 to a MAX31865, and removing the reverse bowden (cause of high friction and ESD), this filament went up to 56 mm³/s!
Thanks for watching. I haven’t noticed that temperature differential but never did any explicit testing. The flow rate is definitely low with the stock hotend.
Hey i just wanted to mention that the scew filter/movement when showing the browser interface like at 12:49 is very bothersome for me and probably others.
how is the documentation for this? Say I new to 3d printing and this the one I get, how do I do maintenance? how do I tension the belts etc? even Vorons documentation isn't clear about this and its something only someone how builds a Voron would know.
Hey Sir, thanks for sharing the video! Also quick question. I`m currently running ender 3 Pro on sonic pad, quite happy with it but I`m guessing Troodon 2 Mini pro be miles ahead of my current set up? What hotend upgrade would you recommend for Troodon 2, or just swap the nozzle? I`m 95% certain I`ll buy it !
There was a cable durability issue with the first batch but that has since been resolved and they sent out a replacement to existing owners. Apart from that it has been smooth sailing. Thanks for your continued viewership!
The idea of a mostly pre-assembled Voron seems incredibly appealing for a newbie to the platform like myself, but I really wish a normal Octopus v1.1 plus accompanying breakout boards and wiring were an option for the Troodon. It seems like you'd be significantly limited in terms of future upgrade/mod potential without changing almost all the electronics out - at which point I'm considering just forking over the ~$200 extra to get a 250mm Voron 2.4 kit from Formbot instead. I'd have bought the Mini in a heartbeat otherwise.
But as a newbie wouldn't a modded troodon be a decent choice? You could easily get an m8p+CB1 with stepper motors and a new toolhead board for less than 100 later on if you do wish to add things. Changing out the board and wiring prob wouldn't take long as the cable chains can open and there's many config for voron 2.4 and manta m8ps, Ans this whole time you don't really have to worry about the build of the printer itself which can easily take over 40 hours without taking into account tuning the thing
You have a pallette 3 pro? I have one on my MK3S+ and I can not for the life of me get the color timing to stay timed. It's always running the wrong colors usually about halfway into the print. I pretty much have all the bugs worked out of my unit, except for the timing. I just can't get it to work. Plus it seems like Mosaic has just given up supporting the darn thing. Haven't seen a new firmware update in a year and a half.
Can you please provide footprint ( not build volume ) of the mini ? I see on the site it is 500x580 but just wanted to be sure because Voron 2.4 250mm build volume frame is 410mm in X and Y
@@ygk3d I have the troodon 2.0 with a stealth burner and indeed the parts cooling is awful. I upgraded the stock fans which improved the situation but i still cannot print PLA at faster speeds in overhangs, etc. It keeps curling. Any ideas/solutions for an aux fan mod would be appreciated.

Definitely interested in the Mini as a option, but I am curious about if an upgrade to a Revo hotend is a easy and viable upgrade just for that easy swapping, do you think you could show that process?
hey @ygk3d do you have a working OrcaSlicer profile for the Troodon 2.0 Pro? I tried reusing the previous Troodon 2.0 profile but it doesn't work out of the box. I imagine there are some steps missing in the starter gcode maybe?
I got it sorted out, the Pro printer ships with a PRINT_START and START_PRINT macro and neither of them worked out of the box. I combined parts of both and hard-coded the start gcode in Orca and it's been working brilliantly. I shared feedback with Formbot about it, hopefully they'll make a change on future revisions.
